Organising, labelling & cleaning business

Hi mums netters,

I am aware this doesn't belong in AIBU, but I feel I will get many more responses...

I am looking to start a new venture. I love & enjoy organising my home.

Cupboards, kitchen drawers/units, children's toys, fridges and every day deep cleaning.

I have three children under the age of 5 & it gives me some sort of control staying organised.

I am looking to start a new business solely organising and helping de clutter people's homes.

So my question to you all, is this something you think will be successful, something people would be interested in - would you?

I will provide all containers/turn tables/hooks & labelling etc at an extra cost.

I will attach example pictures ( not my own work ) I don't want to be outing.

Thank you for any advice Smile

And give it as a present to friend who’s about to have a baby
You'd have to make sure they wanted it first. If someone surprised me with this I'd be well pissed off.

lookingforopinions10 · 08/03/2022 08:30

@seekinglondonlife thank you! I don't have that option.

I think it's a cracking idea and I wish you were local to me! It's a form of therapy for some people. My best friend desperately needs help with this sort of thing. Very best of luck to you.

notanothertakeaway · 08/03/2022 08:38

I wouldn't pay for this service, although I can see it might appeal to some people

I'd say worth giving it a shot. It sounds quite low-risk, as you wouldn't incur significant setup costs. You would need a website and some business cards, but perhaps not much more than that

Word-of-mouth probably the way to go. Suggest you offer your service for free to a couple of people, in exchange for (1) honest feedback and (2) testimonial / review

notanothertakeaway · 08/03/2022 08:41

And I'd suggest you do some training, to get credibility. Hoarding is more complex than it first appears

I just want to add that I think this is fantastic and absolutely what I need. I have ADHD so yes there is free information out there but I get overwhelmed and can’t do it. The one area I have beautifully organised (my dressing table drawer) makes it easy to find things, easy to identify what I don’t use and can declutter and it makes me feel good. I would pay £15 an hour OR a project rate (e.g. £75 for ABC) to get my house looking like that and my brain clear. It isn’t a case of not knowing what to do but I get distracted and overwhelmed so easily.

RonObvious · 08/03/2022 09:52

I would pay for this service, and think that £15 an hour is a bargain! Although, as a PP said, I think I would prefer an estimate for the entire job. And would pay a bonus if you could convince my kids to let go of some of their crap.

Malibuismysecrethome · 08/03/2022 10:23

Just be aware there are a lot of time wasters out there and people who will take advantage. I would also ensure you get paid, preferably at least 50% or a large deposit in advance of starting work.

I will provide all containers/turn tables/hooks & labelling etc at an extra cost.

That stock picture is not a great example, it all looks quite cheap.

frustratedashell · 08/03/2022 18:05

Hi OP, yes do message me with any questions. Glad to help

@lookingforopinions10

Definitely a huge market. I will be looking to stay local. I'm in Kent. I'm looking for a business I enjoy & to make some rainy day money! Quite exciting.
Damn.

I have a specific issue that I am just staring at, trying to find a starting point. If you weren't so bloody far away I would have PMd you by now Grin

I'll have to wait until DSis eventually decides to visit again.

lookingforopinions10 · 08/03/2022 18:33

@SamphiretheStickerist - what a shame! I can offer any help or tips to you online 😌

Oh I know how. I have all the stuff needed to make a bloody good start.

It's like I have a new reel of cotton and the end is well hidden, or a new roll of sellotape with no visble end.

I need someone to look aghast at the pile of stuff - I have recently moved my stash from its hiding places into the open - and start making smaller piles. Then taking those piles and putting them away in a manner that would be useful, get attable.

The weird thing is that now I have taken it all out from wherver the hell it used to be there is absolutely no way I ever had enough room to store all of that out of sight!

And I actually know what it all is. And I have a use for it all.

I am actually starting a second business, that will use it all. But am prevaricating. I can't start selling until I have made stuff; I can't make stuff until I have catalogued everything; I can't catalogue until it is all sorted away; I can't sort it all away!

I will get there, I have a deadline, so will have to. But I do wish I had a bum kicker, super sorter here with me at the moment Smile

Dishwashersaurous · 08/03/2022 19:14

There are loads of businesses doing this where I am. No idea if anyone is making any money from it though.

bluesky45 · 08/03/2022 19:45

Mothercould on Instagram has just had this done. She's in Florida so her house is a bit different to the average UK house but it looked amazing! I wouldn't personally pay for it as I like doing it myself but there is a market for it.

Ava96 · 10/03/2022 09:14

@LottyD32

There's at least one woman on tiktok that sells all these labels and planners and storage boxes etc so there must be a market for it.
I think is great idea for business and I recommend to create your own website. Today, having a website is as crucial as having a telephone number. Research has found that 6/10 customers expect brands to have content online about their business.
grey12 · 10/03/2022 09:26

What I would suggest is considering green alternatives as well Wink a lot of those famous decluttering businesses use a whole load of plastic containers. It would be good to also provide an alternative to that
