someone in this building has been drilling and banging from 10am to 5pm every day since Wednesday and they are at it again today, its Saturday.

It's annoying but 10-5 seems like pretty respectable times. Even on a Saturday.

OmgIThinkILikeYou · 05/03/2022 13:04

As long as isn't during antisocial hours, I don't think there is much you can do about it.

AlwaysLatte · 05/03/2022 13:05

Don't be daft, people are usually at work during the week so have to do this at weekends. At least they're being considerate about times. And you'll presumably need to do work from time to time yourself. Just let them get on with it and finish up quickly.

Svara · 05/03/2022 13:06

Why does the day matter? They aren't starting until mid to late morning.

Glenthebattleostrich · 05/03/2022 13:07

I work full time Monday to Friday, when do you suggest I carry out work? I refuse to pay someone to do something I am more than capable of doing myself and enjoy.

And 10am is more than reasonable. Arsehole who lives next door to me hoovers and cleans his 2 cars at 7am on a Sunday in summer.

ohhooh · 05/03/2022 13:08

10am to 5pm sounds like very reasonable hours in all honesty. If you don't want weekend working - they'd have to work later in the evening to make up time, which I'm sure would also be an issue.

MalbecandToast · 05/03/2022 13:09

You are being massively unreasonable!

VelvetChairGirl · 05/03/2022 13:09

@Svara

Because they have been at it since Wednesday so I assumed it was workmen and they would be off at weekend.

instead they are driving my son nuts.

Maybe they are on annual leave and want to finish the job before back to work on Monday. I think those hours are quite considerate.

gannett · 05/03/2022 13:09

I was walking through a nice residential area just before 9am today and there was building work going on in one of the houses. Banging, crashing, drilling, the lot. It did occur to me that the kind of person who'd throw an absolute fit if they overheard a party at midnight in their neighbourhood, or decry teenagers hanging around quietly as antisocial, would think it perfectly OK to inflict their stupid renovation work on the entire neighbourhood whenever they want.

TheKeatingFive · 05/03/2022 13:10

When are people who work mon-fri supposed to do diy then?

Northernsoullover · 05/03/2022 13:11

Permitted hours are 8 - 1 on a Saturday and not at all on a Sunday. If its a one off its unlikely to amount to a nuisance but if its every weekend it likely is.

Chloemol · 05/03/2022 13:12

Surely the way to look at it is if they are working Saturday, which they are allowed to do, the work will finish earlier

Why don’t you go and have a chat, see how long it’s going on for,

EducatingArti · 05/03/2022 13:12

I had this in the next door flat. Every day for over a month!!

Which law is this then, have never heard of such a thing?

They have to do it until it's finished. I don't see why they would stop at the weekend unless they have other commitments. This way it will be done sooner.

Didn't mean to quote!

TellMeMoreHellebore · 05/03/2022 13:18

many, many many of us work weekends these days.....and have days off midweek!!!

weekends are not sacred times you know!! just a regular working day

MajorCarolDanvers · 05/03/2022 13:19

10 till 5 is pretty reasonable actually

ememem84 · 05/03/2022 13:20

My builders are working weekends. They have a deadline to meet. But have said that the noisy jobs are mostly being done during the week.

MarpleFan · 05/03/2022 13:24

Most places in the UK allow building work until 1pm on a Saturday, but not at all on a Sunday or Bank Holiday, but if it's DIY there are no real rules.

KindlyKanga · 05/03/2022 13:26

Sounds reasonable to me. When do you expect people who work in the week to do their DIY. Maybe ask how many more days you think they'll be and gey a hotel or something if it annoys you that much.

Svara · 05/03/2022 13:27

It would be silly to point out that they should finish at 1pm though, unless you would prefer them to start at 8am.

999caffeineplease · 05/03/2022 13:28

I work Mon-Fri 9-5, when would you suggest I carry out DIY?

999caffeineplease · 05/03/2022 13:29

This has actually baffled me.
