Think you just need to go for a long walk/bit of a day out /visit someone. It's temporary, people have to diy when they can.

VelvetChairGirl · 05/03/2022 13:29

@KindlyKanga

Sounds reasonable to me. When do you expect people who work in the week to do their DIY. Maybe ask how many more days you think they'll be and gey a hotel or something if it annoys you that much.
its not people working in the week its people that have been crashing and banging about shaking the entire building for 4 days in a row now.

Weekend noisy hours differ in different councils/boroughs. Look on your local council website.

WhatAWasteOfOranges · 05/03/2022 13:34

It’s been since Wednesday! think you’re being a little impatient… not even a week!

Blossomtoes · 05/03/2022 13:38

Probably trying to get it finished before returning to work on Monday.

teaandtoastwithmarmite · 05/03/2022 13:39

I think it's give and take. Our neighbours had some work done recently and I can't remember the times but there would be stuff being done on weekends. DD had a sleepover last weekend with 7 friends and they were pretty loud until they finally went to sleep around 2am. When I next saw the neighbour I apologised and he was fine. In comparison we used to live next door to a woman who had work being done at 8am on a Saturday and then parties a lot and general loud music in her garden all the time. I think if it's not all the time it's fine.

TellMeMoreHellebore · 05/03/2022 13:39

what do you actually expect them to do?

GertrudePerkinsPaperyThing · 05/03/2022 13:39

DIY I think is fine. If you work, and you don’t start anything noisy before about 9/10, I think it’s ok. Starting drilling, banging etc early is not really on as people do need their “catch up” after a working week.

Controversially, I don’t think builders should be in on the weekends. Yes it gets the job done quicker, but neighbours do need a break from the constant noise. I didn’t have my builders in on weekends during my loft conversion last year as it just seemed really anti social. I asked my immediate neighbours how they felt about it, and they said they’d rather it didn’t happen on weekends.

A sizeable percentage of the population has to get up at times that leave them exhausted during the week , and there should be a couple of days for catching up on morning sleep if you’re a night owl.

its not people working in the week its people that have been crashing and banging about shaking the entire building for 4 days in a row now. yeah but if you ban DIY at the weekend when will people who work in the week do their DIY?

And if the ENTIRE building is shaking you probably need to ask what they are up to and if they've checked with the landlord.

safariboot · 05/03/2022 13:39

Want to swap? Our neighbours started work at 10 at night yesterday. Carried on until 1am. Small terraced houses.

But I think its workmen

Stopping at the weekend would be the opposite of hurrying up.

MintJulia · 05/03/2022 13:45

@Northernsoullover

Permitted hours are 8 - 1 on a Saturday and not at all on a Sunday. If its a one off its unlikely to amount to a nuisance but if its every weekend it likely is.
Permitted by whom?

Everyone nearby, including me, carries on with diy all weekend.

Lockheart · 05/03/2022 13:47

If work needs doing then work needs doing. You're going to get noise at some point.

VelvetChairGirl · 05/03/2022 13:49

if they going to do it at weekend I hope they hurry up and finish it so its not carrying on next week.

Why?

RoseyLentil · 05/03/2022 13:56

This is a joke right?
Life doesn't stop at the weekend.
If it's bothering you so much go speak to your neighbours.

FairyCakeWings · 05/03/2022 13:57

If they started at 10, it’s fine.

TrickorTreacle · 05/03/2022 13:58

"its not people working in the week its people that have been crashing and banging about shaking the entire building for 4 days in a row now."

"Crashing and banging about, shaking the entire building."

Dramatic, much? @VelvetChairGirl

It reads like a Daily Mail article :D

VelvetChairGirl · 05/03/2022 14:00

@Blossomtoes

But I think its workmen

Why?

because its very loud and theres more then one of them, banging and drilling at the same time today, it sounded like they were demolishing an internal wall the other day.

KindlyKanga · 05/03/2022 14:01

if they going to do it at weekend I hope they hurry up and finish it so its not carrying on next week. could you go out for a bit? It might go on into next week but that is better than rushing to get it done then something falling apart and needing more banging!

Don't be daft. Of course it's fine to have worker in or some DIY on a Saturday.

peboh · 05/03/2022 14:08

The only time dh and I really have to do diy is on the weekends due to work and childcare. So yabu.

TarcasticSwat · 05/03/2022 14:16

Construction workers work weekends, they are predominantly self-employed!
