Have you ever forgotten to pick up your child from school?

DSD has now forgotten to pick up our son 3 times.

I live closer to his school than he does and luckily I've been on hand each time to go get him otherwise he would have been sat there for another 20 minutes or so.

He said he just lost track of time because he's working at home. I don't think that's a good enough excuse?! AIBU to be totally pissed off.

DSD?

SuckIt · 04/03/2022 16:16

I did once and I’m still not over the guilt and shame. I was chronically sleep deprived and fell asleep at 2.55 sleeping through an alarm I had set in case I closed my eyes.

Three times isn’t good enough. He needs to set an alarm or reminder!

ComDummings · 04/03/2022 16:17

That is pathetic of him

Birdkin · 04/03/2022 16:18

YANBU I’ve been a teacher for years and I’ve only ever had a parent forget to pick a child up once, it’s definitely not a common thing!

Pr1mr0se · 04/03/2022 16:18

I don't think being a bit late is forgetting to pick his son up and i do think losing track of time because of working from home is normal. Can he not set a reminder in his work calendar?

PS. I was regularly forgotten at school and there until 7pm.

BeHappy91818 · 04/03/2022 16:18

No I haven’t forgotten my kids. It’s unthinkable to be honest.

Lulu1919 · 04/03/2022 16:19

Darling step daughter ??

SkinnyChaiLatte · 04/03/2022 16:20

Is DSD step dad?

Obira · 04/03/2022 16:20

I have an alarm on my phone so I don’t forget. Parents need to be more responsible, you simply cannot forget to collect your child. Apart from anything else you’re inconveniencing the staff.

BuddhaForMary · 04/03/2022 16:20

DSD stands for Dear Step Daughter on here so you might get a few confused remarks. I'm assuming it your sons dad? And no it's not normal. My parents didn't collect me once and that was due to a communication error not an oversight. I remember my aunt forgetting my cousin once and he was really upset but then he was about 7. I've never forgotten mine.

BluerThanRobinsEggs · 04/03/2022 16:21

I remember being forgotten at infant school. My teacher made me clean up the classroom and then said she'd have to take me home with her. This was not as reassuring to me as she might have thought Grin

Does your DH forget anything else important? Or just your children? because that's a women's job

RhinestoneCowgirl · 04/03/2022 16:24

I did once, I was hugely embarrassed to get a call from the school secretary. I just got very involved in a writing task I was doing and completely lost track of time. To prevent it happening again I set an alarm.

Iggly · 04/03/2022 16:25

No never! But that’s because I can’t help but stay on mild alert so I just don’t forget.

JustDanceAddict · 04/03/2022 16:27

No, but I once got weeks confused thinking dd was staying late for a sport & the head called me to say ‘your child is waiting for you!’ - it was a one-off thing so not a regular weekly activity. DS must have been on a play date or I would’ve been getting him the same time.

pitterpatterrain · 04/03/2022 16:27

Yes. I thought I had booked them into after school club, but hadn’t.

Hectic morning went into hectic afternoon, and I got a call from the headteacher.

We’re a 5 min walk so pickup for later years wasn’t fully over and her classmates were still milling around. But not winning the parental olympics that day !

Xpologog · 04/03/2022 16:28

Not from school but from the childminder. Only when I got home and thought it’s quiet….. Luckily she was only a mile down the road.

SpinnerFromEverywhere · 04/03/2022 16:28

Once I was a few minutes late, literally 2 minutes late and she was sat in the office with the receptionist, but I've never actually forgotten. The receptionist was about to ring me when I turned up.

It's never happened before then and it's never happened since. So I'd say not common.

user375432 · 04/03/2022 16:28

No, never, and I have severe ADHD.

Ellerehj · 04/03/2022 16:31

Sorry, I meant my sons dad. I'm new to the mumsnet lingo 😅

I fell asleep by mistake once, 8 months pregnant and chronically sleep deprived. I was absolutely mortified and luckily was able to get to the school very quickly when they rang me.

TravellingFrom · 04/03/2022 16:33

I have.
DH usually was picking up the dcs and that day I was finishing earlier so said I would. I forgot.

RhubarbFairy · 04/03/2022 16:33

I think DSD Is Dear Sons Dad.

No never. I have been 15 minutes late due to a road closure and diversion, however I was coming from an hour away and the road was closed near my start point so I rang the school to give them plenty of notice that I was on my way but that I knew I'd be late. Couldn't get hold of anyone to grab them for me.

DariaMorgendorffer · 04/03/2022 16:33

Yes, once. They were finishing early that day, and I didn't realise. I wasn't the only one, but was so mortified!

Three times is a pisstake however.

Chely · 04/03/2022 16:34

Nope but I have dozed off and been late when pregnant.

TravellingFrom · 04/03/2022 16:34

As a normal pick up though, no I haven’t forgotten the dcs….
