Pancake conundrum

Okay, my DH thinks I’m weird AF so I need to seek opinions!

So growing up as a 90s kid I never had a sweet pancake, on pancake day we had ash and pancakes (ash being a stew with either beef or corned beef, onions, carrots, swede and potatoes).

I’ve just tried my first sweet pancakes, first one with Nutella and then one with golden syrup and I’m not a fan. For me it’s pancakes and gravy all the way! AIBU?

Also grew up in Yorkshire and we had ash (not hash) with pancakes. It’s nothing like corned beef hash - it’s stewing beef, root veg, potatoes and onions in a light gravy. I used to pout at the the prospect of ash but would love it now!

Always sweet for me, I don’t like savoury pancakes, feels wrong to me. Pancakes ans stew and gravy wouldn’t be a go for me..

Sweet pancakes. Fluffy American “melt in your mouth” buttermilk pancakes from scratch with butter and warm maple syrup . I know some of my family like to wrap a pancake around a sausage link and then dip it in maple syrup for a mix of sweet and savoury. Also had different flavours of syrups; Strawberry, blueberry, butter pecan, boysenberry, chocolate, butterscotch, caramel. Fruits added to batter and/or as toppings: strawberry, blueberry, raspberry, blackberry, banana. Can’t forget chocolate chip pancakes topped with whipped cream. So many ways, so many flavours.

Didn’t have savoury pancakes until maybe a decade ago and that was duck pancakes from the nearest Chinese and then French crépes.

I love savoury pancakes as well as sweet, but with things like cheese, ham, mushrooms etc, not stew! Never heard of 'ash', only 'hash'!

We have cheese, ham and onion as main, then sweet ones for desert Smile
