To vape?

Trying to quit smoking, have tried absolutely everything, everything (except vaping) and never been successful for more than a few days. I'm thinking now about starting to vape - but wondered - is it just as bad for you as smoking? Has anyone had any success of quoting smoking through vaping?

Also could anyone recommend a good vape for someone just starting. The younger people at my work are always complaining about theirs breaking etc. Price is not an issue to me so if I could have some recommendations that would be great.

If you think it will work try it. However most people I speak to who went on to vape with a view to quitting still continue to vape rather than reduce then stop.

Have you tried the stop smoking services offered by the nhs & some pharmacies?

I think it's healthier than smoking, you only have nicotine, not all the tar that clogs up your lungs etc. It definitely stopped me smoking, immediately.

I'd recommend either starting with a disposable vape, you don't have to fill it up or anything and it's a cheap way to try it, about £4.99 for 500 puffs, come in lots of flavours and you can buy then in Tesco, garages, just about anywhere now. If you want a refillable kit, the Innokin T18ii or similar is very straight forward and they'll show you how to use it in a vape shop plus there'll be instructions in the box. Probably costs about £30 online, maybe slightly more in a shop, 10ml bottles of eliquid are about £4.99. I've had my T18 for about 6 years now, I've replaced the battery once. I've tried others, but keep coming back to the T18.

It took me ages but yeah I gave up through vaping. And in the several years I vaped for I didn't smoke any fags and felt generally better

I doubt vaping is actually good for you but it seems to be far better than smoking

Dustyroad63 · 28/02/2022 14:40

I also use the innokin t18ii after trying lots of different ones.
I gave up smoking 5 years ago but still vape. I enjoy it and it doesn’t smell or make me breathless like cigarettes did.
I use ‘Edge ‘ E Liquid and it’s not too expensive.

Dustyroad63 · 28/02/2022 14:44

This is where I buy mine. Sometimes you get a deal with free E liquid on some of the vape products.

I recently started vaping rather than smoking, I regularly run half marathons and have noticed an improvement in my breathing and training times, can't say if it's truly healthier but the reduction in tar must be good for something.

Lubeyboobyalt · 28/02/2022 14:56

if you have a smokers cough at all you might find tolerating a vape difficult, but it should settle down fairly quickly. I used patches for 2 weeks to get rid of the cough then vaped for a while and now completely free of it (10 years this yr)

unwashedanddazed · 28/02/2022 15:09

I smoked for 40 years and gave up with vaping about 6 years ago. I went into a vape shop and said I wanted something simple and they recommended a Pockex Aspire and showed me how to use it. They couldn't have been more helpful. Still vape and still use the same vape thingy (that's how technical I am). I tried a cig at a party about a year ago and couldn't believe how disgusting it was! For about the first two weeks I smoked and vaped but really quickly the vape was preferable to smoking.

Kidsaregrim · 28/02/2022 15:14

The last report I read it was 95% safer than smoking but only read one study that says this.

I recommend aspire pocket x

When giving up I would also recommend a higher nicotine and to stay away from flavoured juices. I use the Vape 88 liquids which are £1 for 10mls and you can buy them everywhere, poundshop, wilko, Asda, Iceland etc. I use a 1.6 rolling leaf which isn’t offensive and quite tasteless but still get the nicotine hit.

I haven’t touched a cigarette in years - good luck

unwashedanddazed · 28/02/2022 15:16

Forgot to say the Pockex costs about £18 on Amazon. I buy big bottles of nicotine free menthol vape liquid on Amazon which is very cheap and I buy the liquid with nicotine either from Jacvapour because their service is very good, or for cheapness you can buy British made vape liquid in supermarkets for £1 for 3mg. Then I dilute the nicotine based liquid with the menthol nicotine-free liquid. This makes it cheaper and means you can adjust the strength as you want to.

Thekormachameleon · 28/02/2022 15:17

Probably the best vape you can start with is the uwell Caliburn g.
Easy to use, deep inhale so you get the smoking effect, no great plumes of vape smoke and discreet

OneTC · 28/02/2022 15:20

The two vapes recommend so far itt are both amazing smoking substitutes, especially imo the pockex

GordenBennett · 28/02/2022 15:36

Go to your nearest shop and speak to them. What's suitable for me may not work for you. You must still get a 'hit' or your craving won't go
I can exercise for ages now without being out of breath and have saved loads of money and I bloody enjoyed smoking

housemaus · 28/02/2022 15:50

I quit smoking (after only 5 years!) 8 years ago and I'm still vaping, which isn't great. So it's not necessarily easier to stop, if you're of an addictive personality anyway! It does feel better (and cheaper, and less offensive smelling) than smoking, but it's ruined my teeth. My dentist says he sees a lot of people who've never smoked but do vape having teeth issues.

Icouldbeanybumhaha · 28/02/2022 15:58

I switch between both Hmm

CourtRand · 28/02/2022 18:52

I quit smoking using a Juul 5 years ago! I still use the vape... it's just as addictive though marginally better health wise I think

Pinksalty · 28/02/2022 19:38

Another vote for a Caliburn g. Super easy to use. Doesn’t produce clouds of smoke and is good for MTL vaping (Mouth to lung) which is closest to smoking. I use riot squad salts, 10mg. You can get the device from Amazon, and I buy liquids via electronic tobacconist.
If you want to try a disposable, then Elf bars have some fab flavours and are cheap from Washington vapes.

Don't buy the disposable ones in newsagents etc. The nicotine levels are really high and you will end up with a worse addiction than you have now! Go to a small vape shop and ask for help choosing a cheap pen like vape. They will know what strength liquid to give you and then you can slowly reduce that strength until you are on 0 nicotine. I have mostly stopped but still take my zero nicotine vape out on social drinking occasions so I'm not tempted to start smoking again. Good luck!

Sorryyoufeelthatway · 19/04/2023 12:27

Do not buy bargain vapes online or from dodgy mobile phone shops. They are fake with god knows what in. Only buy from supermarkets or decent vape shops.

I quit smoking tobacco with a vape going on ten years ago now after trying literally every Nicotine Replacement Therapy (NRT) going. Gum, lozenges, inhalators, patches, pills, nothing ever stuck.

Started with one of the cheap vape pens for £15 from Tesco and never looked back. Since then I've had, off the top of my head, around ten 'mods' (the battery bit) and a similar number of tanks.

I've also helped a few friends make the switch by saving them ten years of trial and error! I'm a bit out of date with the disposable pods popular now but my standard advice is to find a mod which uses a single 21700 battery as this is the perfect balance between weight and longevity. Despite the stupid name the VooPoo Drag range are uniformly excellent. You then have the choice between a traditional tank and disposable pods. An external charger will help batteries last longer.

Innokin have a fantastic guide right here.

I used to chain smoke and quit using Allen Carr's easyway method - no vaping or patches. It doesn't work for everyone but the book only costs £3 on Amazon. I read the book one chapter at a time up to the last chapter; then read it straight through, and that was it.

Locutus2000 · 19/04/2023 14:09

I failed to mention the important bit. I'm a lifetime brittle asthmatic and while a smoker suffered regular life-threatening chest infections on a regular basis. Since switching to vaping I've hardly touched an inhaler and had exactly one chest infection in a decade. Good enough for me.

IrregularChoiceFan · 19/04/2023 14:12

I would reccomend using patches alongside your vape. I smoked 20 a day for years and quit with patches (did the full course) and a vape. Once I was off the patches, I used the vape solo for about 6 months, then I went onto 1mg lozenges and dropped the vape. 2 months on the lozenges (naturally cutting down) I was completely off all forms of nicotine. Been this was for about a year. Good luck op!
