Last time you had an appointment with a dentist?

Just wondering really.
For us, it was before Covid. Not too bothered for the adults in the family, but I'm worried for my child. Her last routine appointment was June 2019, when she was told she would most likely need braces in the future.
Should I be pushing for an appointment or are we still in 'place' where it's just emergencies that get seen?

My (NHS) dentist has been seeing people for normal checkups for ages and I've been to the hygienist too. I'd give them a ring and see if you can make an appointment.

ShaneTwane · 27/02/2022 21:26

I had a normal check up in January. Give them a call tomorrow.

oohaarghoohaargh · 27/02/2022 21:27

ShanghaiDiva · 27/02/2022 21:27

I’ve had check ups since December 2020.

biggreenhouse · 27/02/2022 21:27

mines been back to normal for the last 9 ish months

Soontobe60 · 27/02/2022 21:28

I wouldn’t be surprised if your dentist tells you you’re now off their books as you’ve not been for so long.
I’ve been 4 times over lockdown, 2 for regular check ups. I did have a checkup booked for May 2020, which they cancelled, and I contacted them later that year for an emergency. I had another check up in Summer 2021, and my next one is hooked for August this year.

CasperGutman · 27/02/2022 21:28

Our dentist was closed to routine appointments for ages. We contacted them in November to ask when we might be able to get a check-up, and were told the next appointment was in late September this year. It will have been about three years by then.

TillyTopper · 27/02/2022 21:28

Just call and make an appointment! We've continued to have 6 monthly appointments all the way through!

Duracellbunnywannabe · 27/02/2022 21:28

My children and I have had two checks up post covid (6 months apart). Have you tried to make an appointment?

Kitkat151 · 27/02/2022 21:28

All normal at my dentist .....my first check up after Covid was June 2021....then had one in December 21...and booked in again for this june

Lady0racle · 27/02/2022 21:29

My NHS dentist has been seeing patients for routine appointments for ages now. We go every 6 months and we haven’t missed one since mid 2020 when they were closed to all but emergencies.

TheCanyon · 27/02/2022 21:29

September 25th 2019. Still not doing check ups.

Comedycook · 27/02/2022 21:29

I haven't seen a dentist for 11 years

My DC go regularly though....they went a couple of months ago

WhatTheWhoTheWhatThe · 27/02/2022 21:30

Have had two check ups and one filling in the last 18 months for kids (NHS) Mines a private practice as I have braces and I get seen every 4 weeks.

AnneLovesGilbert · 27/02/2022 21:30

DD and I both saw the dentist in September, her for the first time at 2. I also saw the hygienist.

We got bumped several times last year but they’ve been open most of the time just with limited capacity due to cleaning.

No reason at all not to book and go and I’d do it asap as there’ll be a wait.

Minfilia · 27/02/2022 21:31

21 years here, but I have a feeling I’m not your target audience Grin

BoodleBug51 · 27/02/2022 21:33

The one i go to has been great. Plenty of email contact during their initial closure, then I've had 2 routine check ups/one set of xrays done and a small filling replaced. Also had a scale/polish. Very small dentist in the town where I went to school and I've never bothered to change even though it's a bit of a distance.

DH's on the other hand is still operating as if every client has the bubonic plague. He's desperate for a scale/polish and he needs some ongoing work but they're still only doing check ups/emergency fillings. He's desperate to change but is a bit stuck as he's half way though a long term treatment.

Tigger85 · 27/02/2022 21:34

Not since 2019, my dentist (Wales) is still only seeing emergency patients.

Nubbled · 27/02/2022 21:35

My NHS dentist has caught up with the children,'s check ups and I have a check up soon

Nubbled · 27/02/2022 21:35

Scotland here

tinkerbellvspredator · 27/02/2022 21:37

3 routine check ups (England, NHS)

2bazookas · 27/02/2022 21:37

I saw mine last week, and before that last November, and a month before that in October. October was my regular 6-month check-up plus scrape/polish by his hygeinist. From October inspection I needed root canal which he did in November and last week he was checking up on the root canal.

cardibach · 27/02/2022 21:38

@Tigger85

Not since 2019, my dentist (Wales) is still only seeing emergency patients.
Are you sure? I don’t think any are operating like that any more. I’m in Wales and I’m seeing mine normally as are friends and family in other areas, so it’s not a national thing.
Doublechins · 27/02/2022 21:38

We've had two normal check ups with another due in may so our dentist has been back to normal for nearly 18 months

Crackercrazy · 27/02/2022 21:39

Our NHS wasn’t seeing any one for ages after the first lockdown, total fuck up. We went private in the end.
