Brush teeth before or after breakfast?

Sophiebrown85 · 27/02/2022 14:01

Hey everyone.

I brush my teeth after breakfast, but was told my DD has Enamel dysplasia and brushing teeth after breakfast has not helped her case. She says to brush teeth before breakfast and I understand that now and the science behind it.

But was wondering, how many of you brush before or after and why?

I always do it after, and tried to do it before but I just cannot stand the minty taste with marmlade on my toast. Taught my DD the same way whos 13 and how do we get rid of this habit.

Before! I do it soon as I’m up.

BrioNotBiro · 27/02/2022 14:04

Before - to get rid of the plaque before you eat stuff with acids (do a quick mini brush after too).

PartyPlan · 27/02/2022 14:04

We do it once we have had a shower, always before breakfast.

dementedma · 27/02/2022 14:05

I always do after

AlphaJura · 27/02/2022 14:05

I always do it before because otherwise I might forget if I have to go back up and get ready. If you do it as soon as you get up , maybe then have a shower, get dressed, then eat your breakfast, hopefully the taste will have gone? Orange 🍊 is the worst thing after you've brushed your teeth, some things aren't as bad

woodhill · 27/02/2022 14:06

I do it after when I'm leaving for work but try to leave 30 mins after eating itms

Boood · 27/02/2022 14:18

Before. I exercise first thing and it doesn’t feel nice to do that with morning breath. So I get up, brush teeth, exercise, shower and then have breakfast. Also I always drink orange juice at breakfast and apparently it’s not good to brush your teeth too soon after doing that, it brushes the acid into your teeth and removes the enamel from them.

Darbs76 · 27/02/2022 14:20

After, as I get up 1.5hrs before I get dressed

HelloDulling · 27/02/2022 14:22

As soon as I get up, I can’t bear the feeling of a non-fresh mouth in the morning.

VladmirsPoutine · 27/02/2022 14:24

As soon as I wake up it's the first thing I do after a shower but granted I don't eat breakfast till around 11am.

Whatadayyyy · 27/02/2022 14:24

I do both

CGWGWOO · 27/02/2022 14:24

Before. My Dentist told me to never brush my teeth right after eating as it will damage my enamel.

marriednotdead · 27/02/2022 14:24

I do it before, as soon as I get up. I don’t have breakfast immediately so I don’t have the minty taste corrupting my cereal! Sometimes have to floss afterwards but the dentist told me not to brush within an hour of eating/drinking juice or anything fizzy.

Coronado2 · 27/02/2022 14:30

Before. My morning routine is get up, go to the toilet, brush teeth, get dressed and do makeup/hair, have breakfast. I don't want an unfresh feeling mouth and if I did it after there's a chance I'd forget.

EnglishMuffins · 27/02/2022 14:34

I always used to eat breakfast before brushing my teeth but now i know the science behind it I brush them before then do mouthwash after breakfast

Simonjt · 27/02/2022 14:35

Did you lose your first thread?

If so its here www.mumsnet.com/Talk/_chat/4490852-Brush-teeth-before-breakfast

BirdOnTheWire · 27/02/2022 14:36

Both. I like to brush and freshen as soon as I get up but it seems pointless to then leave food on your teeth so I do them again.

Simonjt · 27/02/2022 14:36

It’s the second thing I do after getting up in the morning. It’s only the second because the bladder demands attention. I can’t stand the feeling of an unbrushed mouth on the morning.

I sometimes brush again after breakfast.

If you don’t like a minty mouth with breakfast, just get a different toothpaste.

Madge55 · 27/02/2022 17:09

I also use very soft toothbrushes.. Curaprox. More expensive but I think they help project my 56y year old gums.

Luckyelephant1 · 27/02/2022 17:29

Before, as soon as I get up. I feel disgusting otherwise with that morning breath taste in my mouth. It also helps me feel more awake with that minty taste, my head somehow feels clearer.

MischievousBiscuits · 27/02/2022 17:42

As soon as I get up. Then mouthwash after breakfast

JellybabyGina87 · 27/02/2022 17:45

Before, because I don't eat breakfast till after the school run. On the weekend I'll brush them afterwards.
