In order to try to distract myself from the current affairs, and not have an actual panic attack (ie crackpot putin) I am instead going to be concentrating on my sister in laws 40th birthday next week. We're going away from the weekend, there will be 10 of us in total. The day before I'm going to go to Costco and pick up some meals, snacks etc

What are your must have buys?

I'll be buying for 9 carnivores + 1 Vegan Smile

They used to do the best vanilla biscuits in the bakery section (haven't been in ages so not sure if they still do). They came in boxes of about 40. It used to be worth going just for those!

lucillelarusso · 24/02/2022 16:03

One of those massive drums of pretzels is a must!

Marmite27 · 24/02/2022 16:04

Chocolate fudge cake and a carrot cake would be our choice. Or the 2 bite brownies and cinnamon rolls instead.

Im now realising we don’t really do savoury at Costco.

Cognoscenti · 24/02/2022 16:04

All of the cakes they make on the premises look amazing, only tried the carrot and chocolate cakes, but they were as good as they looked!

MonkeyPuddle · 24/02/2022 16:06

Just a fucking massive cake. They’re huge and tasty.

didihearthatright123456 · 24/02/2022 16:07

all of the cakes are totally amazing!

I'm thinking some croissants or cinnamon rolls for snacks/breakfast

Any recommendations from their ready meal section? I've had the stew & dumplings before & burritos which are amazing

and I must say the 10 are made up of 6 adults, 3 x 3 year olds and 1 8 year old so would need to cater for everyone and not have the "toddlers" go crazy on a mad sugar rush all weekend

A carrot cake! I’m also terrified. Was going to start dieting but right now I’d happily buy one and sit and eat the lot!

MissRainbowBrite · 24/02/2022 16:12

The huge pizza's are fab and feed at least 8 people.

not sure what I'm going to buy for the Vegan either Confused

Lemons drizzle loaf
Brownies
Danish pastries

Pizza
Chicken tikka masala
Chicken hotpot
Tray of wraps/flatbreads for lunches
Few tubs of the coleslaw

Booze and loo roll Grin

MouseyMoose · 24/02/2022 16:19

Now I'm wondering when I can next fit a trip to costco in!

BarbaraofSeville · 24/02/2022 16:20

They do a taco ready meal that looks very nice, also some ready made deli flatbread sandwiches and a chicken curry. Plus the massive pizzas of course.

Unfortunately I don't think a lot of the fresh prepared stuff is vegan, but there are falafels, buckets of hummus, nice flatbreads and maybe a bit of other nibbly stuff. Some nice vegetable noodle pots in the freezer but check in case they have fish sauce etc in. Maybe some veg samosas?

Can they not provide for themselves/give you a list? I have a couple of vegan friends and they always prefer to sort themselves out when we go on trips away as that way they can guarantee they get stuff they like.
Holothane · 24/02/2022 16:21

Drum of pretzels oh yum.

thefoxandhound · 24/02/2022 16:21

Get the Ghiradelli brownies mix - they are super easy to make up and come in pre-portioned packs of 4. You just add egg, oil and water. Very fudgey:

Littlemissprosecco · 24/02/2022 16:21

Get sil a cake, a plain white iced, edible marker pens, and let loose!!!!

Chely · 24/02/2022 16:22

Lemon cheesecake, I could devour a whole one but that would be shameful

didihearthatright123456 · 24/02/2022 16:22

Ooh the taco ready meal is a good shout, my girls would love assembling them.

I'll have a look in the freezer section and see what they have

A pizza is definitely on the cards, I'm thinking a cheese pizza, that we can add to, like chicken & mushrooms for the adults and leave plan for the kids.

Costco have frozen posh vegan burgers and sausages (Beyond?), a lot of people will eat those even if they're not vegan.

BigSandyBalls2015 · 24/02/2022 16:23

They do a ready made chicken jalfrezi which is lovely, if you like spicy. They also do a mild one butter or korma I think. Pizzas are huge and lovely.

didihearthatright123456 · 24/02/2022 16:24

@MouseyMoose to be fair he is very very good and wouldn't expect anything, but I would feel bad not to get him something. The Samosa's are a good shout, something that all of us could enjoy x
