In order to try to distract myself from the current affairs, and not have an actual panic attack (ie crackpot putin) I am instead going to be concentrating on my sister in laws 40th birthday next week. We're going away from the weekend, there will be 10 of us in total. The day before I'm going to go to Costco and pick up some meals, snacks etc

What are your must have buys?

I'll be buying for 9 carnivores + 1 Vegan Smile

Red Velvet cake

Couple of pizzas
Spring rolls
Big bag of wedges

Red velvet cake (for me Grin)

And cheeses with crackers

Maybe best to go to M&S for vegan food if Costco comes up short, but remember that a lot of food is vegan anyway, so need enough for everyone, you could do an Indian feast suitable for everyone that was 80/90% vegan - samosas, bhajis, breads, rice, dhal, veg curries, salads etc and then maybe a token chicken dish.

Moonshine5 · 24/02/2022 16:26

Chicken nuggets and tortilla chips the size of your face. Guac and Sour cream from Costco.
And then nip to Lidl to get a crate of Cremant. It's an awesome alternative to champagne!

Cookerhood · 24/02/2022 16:26

Vegan will be tricky from Costco, although they do big pots of tomato or arrabiata sauce in the fresh section. You could do pasta with that. We used to get a broccoli & chicken bake from there which was delicious, but they change quite regularly. The fresh lasagne is good, & of course a rotisserie chicken.
Jackets potatoes, salad, chicken, hummus for the vegan? They do lovely big pots of that. They also do various vegan falafel types things, we keep a tub of the sweet potato ones in the freezer for lunches.
The frozen already cut up cheesecake is good for a crowd, plus a big fruit platter.

Oblomov22 · 24/02/2022 16:26

New duck platter is nice
Brownies
Spring rolls
Indian selection - onion bhaji's.

Cookerhood · 24/02/2022 16:28

Actually vegan wasn't as hard as I thought. I was thinking of all the stuff with creamy sauces or mayonnaise on them.

Lindy2 · 24/02/2022 16:29

The things I e enjoy from Costco are:

  • the massive pizzas
  • sushi platters
  • duck pancakes platter
  • chicken hot pot
  • tomahawk steaks
  • anything from the bakery section

I'm not sure about the vegan. Perhaps get them an avocado or something 😂

movesyouveneverseen · 24/02/2022 16:30

If you’re doing a buffet the chicken nuggets and spicy battered prawns are 👌

The ciabatta’s that need heating through are so good for lunches.

I need to visit soon, some of these suggestions sound incredible!!

pieonthesofa · 24/02/2022 16:32

The mozzarella dippers (frozen section). Bake in the oven and as good as deep fried ones.

I really like the coleslaw too but don't normally need such a vast quantity so rarely get it.

Ohhh and the pulled pork, that's really nice and very easy, no skill required at all.

The ready made enchiladas are also good.

I second all of the cakes and the pizza too!

The sandwiches and wraps are nice, but definitely pricier than other places.

This thread has made me very hungry but also has been a great lighthearted pick me up, so thank you for starting this OP :)

MostlyNormalSometimesOdd · 24/02/2022 16:34

Try and time your visit to coincide with them dishing out free samples, you won't need lunch afterwards

cultkid · 24/02/2022 16:36

Does Costco deliver or can you only get this stuff in store? Sounds brilliant

Totalwasteofpaper · 24/02/2022 16:36

Freezer section
Jamon croquettes
Prawn gyoza
Duck bao buns
Prawn wontons bowls (Black tubs)
Duck platter

The huge pizzas and the chicken bakes

The sushi isn't great...

DorothyZbornakIsAQueen · 24/02/2022 16:37

Ahhh Costo. AKA Land of the Giants.

You could get a massive jar of mayonnaise or a massive jar of pickled onions.

BarbaraofSeville · 24/02/2022 16:47

Agree that Costco sushi is poor.

Outside proper Japanese restaurants, you want Sushi Daily in Waitrose or some Asdas for that.

weaselish · 24/02/2022 16:48

Their chicken nuggets are amazing - real chicken, tastes great. Good for kids; put adults ones in wraps w salad.

LoveFall · 24/02/2022 16:57

We have bought their Caesar salad for crowds. One will feed 4 as a meal and maybe 6 as a side salad.

Ditto to their taco sets with chicken and all the fixings. Also tasty salsa and tortilla chips.

Their rotisserie chickens are legendary. Very large and well priced.

Charliesgotachocolatefactory · 24/02/2022 17:03

Croissants! Always croissants

Sacks of crisps
Pizza
I like the look of the fresh burritos
Massive packet of sliced Jalsberg
The half cooked ciabattas/Demi baguettes are great
The brownie mix is HEAVEN!

NameGoesHere · 24/02/2022 17:03

The new chicken tikka and flatbreads!
