To think that IKEA stores must be empty of stock..

Tried and tried to order...one cabinet, another, tried another...
A shelving unit...same story.

Out of stock in all stores.

How will IKEA maintain profits and survive if they can't sell?

They will probably eventually retreat from the UK. All goods are taking way longer to get here now, thanks to Brexit. Their European businesses will be fine.

GirlInACountrySong · 23/02/2022 10:52

Yes it's true of many stores

Same where I work.... smaller suppliers/businesses go bust it takes time to retain another

Then there's haulage and shopping problems

Warehouse and delivery staff shortages

I'm sure they are working hard to source new vendors, I know WE are. It's difficult right now

MouseyMoose · 23/02/2022 10:53

Yes I've been a few times recently and there were lots of the red out of stock stickers about.

Lockheart · 23/02/2022 10:58

Presumably they're doing quite well if demand is so high that they're sold out.

choosername1234 · 23/02/2022 10:59

There's a new high street ikea opening near me this week, perhaps they've diverted all their stock there Wink

ouch321 · 23/02/2022 11:03

I believe they are taking or have taken the unit where Topshop Oxford Circus used to be...

Namechangehereandnow · 23/02/2022 11:07

All shops are like that ime atm, even supermarkets. Driving me crazy.

SpacePotato · 23/02/2022 11:07

Deliveries are also taking months too.

CornishGem1975 · 23/02/2022 11:21

I think it depends which store you're near? Does it come from the store?

I placed an order on Monday morning and my order is coming today. Had to pay £15 for the delivery mind.

IKEA is experiencing stock shortages worldwide, primarily driven by shortage / cost of shipping and containers from China. It’s starting to run trains from China to the EU to try free up shipping capacity to the US for example, though getting through Dover won’t be as easy! So, the current situation is not Brexit driven, but their interim solution is unlikely to help the U.K. much…
newtb · 23/02/2022 11:30

I'm in France and thé short Billy bookcases were out if stock. Ordered through Amazon and it was shipped from China. Most of their things seem to be made there now.

HiDay · 23/02/2022 11:31

Customs issues at Dover will be Brexit driven though.

They're opening stores in Mexico and Puerto Rico but staying open in the UK will just be too hard! 🙄 Their uk sales in 2020 were 1.9 billion.

Their 2021 company annual report shows they're having problems stocking globally:

"It wasn’t easy. Keeping IKEA stores and warehouses stocked has been a challenge. During FY21 we saw a substantial drop in availability that we have not yet recovered from, and this will continue far into FY22. Across the IKEA value chain, range developers, suppliers, purchasers, logistics and of course IKEA retailers are together taking great efforts keep our most popular products like BILLY bookcase in stock.

At the same time, transport and raw material prices are increasing globally."

If you opt for a stock alert thing you'll get one pretty quickly.

Agreed. They come back into stock but everyone with the alerts snaps them up so you wouldn’t realise.

It’s the same in Australia, there are delays of stock all over.

CornishGem1975 · 23/02/2022 11:59

A company like IKEA shouldn't have much trouble at customs - I work in distribution and procedures were put in place to mitigate delays. I don't think this is purely a BREXIT issue.

I've just tried for one cabinet that I want.

It will notify me when it is available....in a choice of stores....in The Netherlands....
Love The Netherlands, but a bit far to travel to collect an IKEA cupboard.😂

Errrr you make it sound like there is no demand and there is a big competitor in the UK.

Stock issues owe a lot precisely to demand being so high. Combined with suppy chain issues particularly of wood which has been well documented.

Lots of people have spent the last two years on renovations rather than holidays.

Ikeas woes in the uk are due to its success rather than its failure.

One major store (Coventry) has already closed, and two of the smaller ones. Another planned in Surrey has been abandoned.

No solution in sight: stagnant supply chains ensure empty shelves at Ikea and Co.

Consumers have long noticed the effects. "A lot of things I wanted to buy weren't in the store," says Ikea customer Stine Krath.

"We came with a long list of Christmas wishes for my sister," says Ikea customer Signe Lindenhann Møller. "But we only got three out of twelve articles."

November 2021
DELFT, Netherlands: Ikea stated that it will raise prices due to global supply chain shortages, which are expected to continue throughout next year.

"Keeping Ikea stores and warehouses stocked has been a challenge. Supply chain disruptions led to a substantial drop in the availability of products that we have yet to recover from," the company said.

Chief Financial Officer Martin van Dam said the global supply chain crisis and high energy prices could last for some time, adding that 2022 will be "a more difficult year with more challenges."

October 2021
Firms in Denmark have been grappling with product supply problems.

As economies opened up after the coronavirus lockdowns demand surged and that has combined with transport delays to causes the issues.

On a normal basis, IKEA Denmark receives 45 trucks of products a day. Now that number is down to 35 some days.

"Global supply chains are under enormous pressure," said IKEA Denmark’s head of logistics, Peter Langskov.
