Parking issue

I need mumsnets collective wisdom. Neighbour has parked with all four wheels on the pavement inches from my front gate. We had to climb over the garden fence to get into the house. What would you do? Because at the minute there is all sorts going through my head.

Background info: we live on a road with houses only on one side of the street, on the other side there are visitor bays for the allotments but they are all used by residents. Each house only has a driveway for one car. I'm not precious about parking directly outside my house. I routinely have cars from other properties outside my house. I have parked in the parking space opposite the house 2 doors down. Owner has taken great offence to this and parked as he did, despite other "visitor bays" still being empty.

I knocked on his door and he opened it with a fuck off. I asked nicely to move and he was shouting and swearing about me parking opposite his house.

We are a new build. 5 years old but still not adopted by the council, so managed by the house builder.

Phone the police he's causing an obstruction

Junction5aOnTheM4 · 22/02/2022 23:16

You can't get in and out of your own house. Ring the police non emergency line. Report the cunt.

Really18 · 22/02/2022 23:16

He os bring s dickhead and trying to make a point. I would call the police. You need access to your property. If you had a fire or health emergency you would be fucked.

FrangipaniBlue · 22/02/2022 23:18

Yep, I'm not normally one for phoning the police unless it's a genuine emergency but in this instance given how abusive he was I 100% would!

mum11970 · 22/02/2022 23:19

Get a bicycle lock and lock his door handle to the gate or buy a job lot of clingfilm and wrap it round his car. Not to sure about the legality of the first I’m afraid. He’s a grade A arsehole though. If your gate opens both ways make sure it isn’t secured in the winds tonight.

Ra12345 · 22/02/2022 23:20

Wow what a cunt. I'd probably do something I shouldn't...

homeishere · 22/02/2022 23:21

Climb over his car with your sharpest walking stick to ensure you don’t fall off and hurt yourself.

AmandaHoldensLips · 22/02/2022 23:22

Shove a potato up his exhaust pipe.
His car won't start and he'll never work out what's wrong with it. (Make sure you can't see the potato.)

My dad taught me this trick and it's bloody brilliant.

SoftwareDev · 22/02/2022 23:22

What an absolute idiot. 100% deserves being reported. I'd be straight on the phone to police non-emergency number.

I'd make of point of explaining his aggressive verbal conduct too! Next time you have any dealings with him use your phone to film.

T00Ts · 22/02/2022 23:24

Absolute cunt. Report him.

T00Ts · 22/02/2022 23:24

And say he’s been abusive.

Idontreplytotrolls · 22/02/2022 23:25

Go out with a small flat screw driver let all his tyres down, or put vaseline on his windscreen wipers. Some thing stinky, fish oil ect in the air vents can do the trick also.

🥔 In the exhaust won't work, it's an old tale people say the pressure Frome the exhaust will force it it. It does not work.

Clymene · 22/02/2022 23:25

Yep I'd call the police. What a fucking knob.

Supersee · 22/02/2022 23:27

Does your gate open out the way? He wouldn't have a leg to stand on reporting the 'damage' given the cunty way he's parked.

Badgerstmary · 22/02/2022 23:28

Definitely call the police. I’d be livid.

Funny you say that. The gate has a stopper thing to stop it swinging outward but I am considering removing it.

DH doesn't want to call the police and cause trouble as we have got to live here. I'll try and use your responses to convince.

Put a ladder against the car and climb over. Hopefully will put a nice dent in neighbour's car.

Picklequeen88 · 22/02/2022 23:30

Best thing would be to ring 101 non emergancy service. Looks like he's parked over a droped curb which is illigal, also blocking the pathway preventing people with pushchairs and people with disability scooters from safely accessing the pathway, I'm sure if I remember this is also illigal. Hope he he gets what's coming to him! Good luck with it!

mum11970 · 22/02/2022 23:31

It certainly wouldn’t be illegal for you to remove the stopper. It’s his own fault if the wind catches it.

SliceOfCakeCupOfTea · 22/02/2022 23:31

I'd call the police as blocking you in your own house surely is a risk to life as they've blocked your escape in case of a fire??

Psuedoshoes · 22/02/2022 23:33

I'd 100% call the police. He's the one being cunty, OP - NOT you and your dh

JaniceBingALing · 22/02/2022 23:33

It's got to be a police job. Anything less than police and he will think he can rule the roost from here on.

SoftwareDev · 22/02/2022 23:33

Does your DH intend to let this idiot "win" by never parking outside his house (perfectly legally) because otherwise he will effectively block you inside your home?

Your idiot neighbours actions could have serious consequences if there was a house fire or you had to go somewhere quickly in the event of an emergency. Not reporting him is effectively letting him away with it.

That said - I understand further retaliation could be an issue. Ideally you'd want to make sure your car has a dash cam incase he tries to interfere with it in any way.

InaccurateDream · 22/02/2022 23:33

I’d call the police and emphasise that he has tried intimidating you with aggressive language
