To think someone saying they could lose ten stone by late June/early July

Is very unlikely and impossible and ten stone would take years to lose. She thinks following a vlcd will do this

Not healthily. But also depends on initial size... it would be a lot easier going from 25st to 15st than 18st to 8st for example.

BobLep0nge · 22/02/2022 15:09

She could probably lose about 4 and a half stone by then on a vlcd.

GirlInACountrySong · 22/02/2022 15:10

ten stone would not take years to lose at all

how heavy to start with?

LockdownLisa · 22/02/2022 15:12

Averaging roughly 1lb per day? No way, probably not even half that.

JudgeRindersMinder · 22/02/2022 15:13

I’ve lost 7.5 stone since November, but that’s because I’ve had a gastric sleeve procedure, so it’s theoretically possible, but even if they do it’s unlikely to be sustainable

OneTC · 22/02/2022 15:13

A friend of mine does the aforementioned 25st to 15st fairly regularly and in a matter of months, when he gets to 15st though the weight loss really slows down

I've lost 5st in 6 months but I don't think she is being realistic.

DrSbaitso · 22/02/2022 15:18

Not unless she cuts off her limbs.

parkrunner1977 · 22/02/2022 15:22

There is a guy currently on Instagram who has lost almost 5 stone since beginning of October following Slimming World so in theory 10 stone by July could be possible?

Junction5aOnTheM4 · 22/02/2022 15:25

Did 5 in 6, was 15st 3lb at the start.

I did the stop-eating-and-make-yourself-ill diet.

I loved how my shape felt, but I hated how sick my body felt. I worried a lot of people.

Ten in 6, difficult without a sleeve.

parkrunner1977 · 22/02/2022 15:25

I just realised that I was adding 5 months on to the July target, duh! I would say 5 stone yes, 10 stone no.

44PumpLane · 22/02/2022 15:26

With a VLCD I would guess they could start off on a good average of a stone or stone and a half per month (depending on starting weight) with 10-14lb off in week 1.

So I reckon at a max they could be looking at a 5 stone weight loss.

However of they are seriously considering it I hope they aren't thinking of starving themselves then having an 800 cal shitty ready meal for tea or something else ridiculous?

If they are going VLCD it has to still be nutritionally balanced or they will just be ill!

Rawtinhail · 22/02/2022 15:29

Why does this person need/want to lose 10st by July? I've seen so many delusional brides who convince themselves that even though they've been 4st heavier than they want for 6 years, they'll somehow be able able to shift that excess weight 6 months before their wedding.
Even if it's possible to lose 10st in that time frame, it' not going to be the healthy option.

LittleGwyneth · 22/02/2022 16:13

It depends how overweight they are. If they're very very big and they've had a gastric sleeve or they're doing an extreme diet / using weight loss drugs then yes, it's possible. If they're 18 stone trying to get down to 8 stone when very unlikely.

veevee04 · 22/02/2022 16:15

Depends if she's super super obese , I had a BMI of 41 and lost 5 stone in 5 months after weight loss surgery but I'm guessing your BMI would have to be like 70-80 to be able to lose 10 stone in that short amount of time !!

Tigersonvaseline · 22/02/2022 16:16

It may be delusional but I don't agree with squashing some ones hopes.when you are that large you have to have hope!

LargeInCharge · 22/02/2022 16:19

To be honest I’d recommend a calorie restriction (not a vlcd, maybe 200 - 400 calorie reduction from her tdee) combined with intermittent fasting/time restricted eating.

The problem with vlcd is over time your metabolism can reduce slightly so you’d have to keep reducing calories to keep losing weight.

With intermittent fasting it’s been shown your metabolism can increase if you follow the guidelines correctly.

Men tend to lose faster than women and your weight loss slows as you get smaller. It purely depends but she would have to be very very large to have a 10 stone loss in 5 months
MatildaTheCat · 22/02/2022 16:19

I’d hazard a guess that someone who needs to lose at least ten stone doesn’t have a healthy relationship with food or weight loss and is wildly unrealistic. I’d still support them to do it though but with much smaller targets say once a month.

What's the point - if he does it regularly it's clearly going straight back on again.
IsItTooHotInHere · 22/02/2022 16:32

It's possible to lose 5st by June/July, on a VLCD such as Exante or Cambridge, but certainly not 10st!

Hont1986 · 22/02/2022 16:44

Yes, it's possible. However, whether she has the willpower and discipline to keep the VLCD up that long is another matter.
