Is very unlikely and impossible and ten stone would take years to lose. She thinks following a vlcd will do this

I lost 7 stone in a year. A year of incredibly hard work and 6 months of which I followed the 5:2 diet. I exercised hard every single day and almost never had a treat of any kind. It was tough but I got the weight off. It falls of quicker when you’re bigger, I lost the first stone in a fortnight.

10 stone in 4 months is obviously not going to happen but could potentially lose 3-4 stone by then.

Ricksteinsfishwife · 22/02/2022 16:49

This is humanly possible, she’d need to loose at least seven pounds a week every single week, but she’d need to nigh on starve herself and would be very ill. Your extreme is also nonsense, it doesn’t take years.

Neither of you seem to have much of a clue.

ClariceQuiff · 22/02/2022 16:53

If the person is very heavy to begin with, and especially if they were having bariatric surgery, it would be possible but should not be attempted without medical supervision.

collieresponder88 · 22/02/2022 16:53

You could if you just ate veg to keep you alive

Singlebutmarried · 22/02/2022 17:21

I shed 3st since Christmas. But I’ve been really poorly and have only just been able to eat properly again.

Would not recommend.

Losing weight at that rate leaves you open to malnutrition and all sorts of other problems.

Mrsmadevans · 22/02/2022 17:22

If she starves herself she might get 5 stone off but her hair will fall out

SpiderinaWingMirror · 22/02/2022 17:33

Not I reckon.
I had a colleague who did 10.5 st in a year. The proper way, slimming world and exercise.

Wexone · 22/02/2022 17:38

It can happen however it will cause havoc to your metabolisms and potentially destroy it. Here in Ireland we have a show called operation transformation and on that one of the leaders was loosing huge amount of weight each week, they actually changed her food plan and she was told not too loose any weight for two weeks. This was to ensure that she was loosing weight slowly and in a healthy weight . After nearly 8 weeks the leader has lost just over two stone and that is with a full time fitness coach, dietician etc helping her. I say a year is a far better timeline to loose it with it far easier to keep it off

NinjaQueen · 22/02/2022 17:54

I agree that 5 stone would be more realistic and would still be a huge difference in their health and appearance.

However I would keep this to myself and be supportive and encouraging as long as they are doing it in a healthy way.

Bigoldhag · 22/02/2022 18:26

Possible but only without a crack in willpower, which lets face it, is less likely if you have ten stone to lose in the first place.

I’ve yoyo’ed my entire life and have, in an ideal world 10st to lose too. Finally figured out that I have to do it slowly to be sustainable and to curb binge eating. I do it on a 500 calorie deficit - giving me over 1800 a day, i’ve lost about 8lbs in less than a month but I am planning 1lb a week long term, so it can stay off this time.

Grandville · 22/02/2022 21:34

I lost that in just over a year but I was nearly 20st and had bariatric surgery.

He could lose that much in 5 months if he weighs 30st or more and follows something like a VLCD or fast800. If he has a BMI of below 55, no chance although he could lose 5-6st if he goes hard and exercises religiously.

Lemons1571 · 22/02/2022 21:57

I’ve done 18st 5 to 8st 9 - so that’s 9 and a half stones lost in 13 months.
Meal replacement diet.
I think losing much faster than this would make you ill and weak.

TLKlover · 22/02/2022 23:47

I've lost in a year about 1st and half.

This has been through starting to run & a dance class. Food in general needs to be looked at to get consistent weight loss & inch removal. My husband lost 5.5stone through illness though over 4 months, purely because he couldn't keep any food down.

Based on what I've seen in the past, weight loss like this on low calorie diets can be achieved in some way but what is your body losing in the process & what's to say it won't go back on, when you stop.

I'm fully aware my diet needs to change to complement my exercise schedule to see a difference, so it worries me what people are missing when they take on these diets that exclude things entirely.

This is purely my opinion though.

BearOfEasttown · 22/02/2022 23:57

Expecting to lose ten stone in 4 months is fucking ridiculous. FFS. You would never expect your body to GAIN that weight in 4 months, so why expect it to lose it? Hmm

declutteringmymind · 23/02/2022 00:37

Can't knock ambition.
