To ask what’s the compliment you’ve always wanted to receive?

As the title says, what’s the compliment you’d like to receive but haven’t?

When choosing a perfume this morning I realised I can’t recall anybody ever telling me that I smell nice, or asking what perfume I’m wearing. None of my partners have ever been interested in fragrances so perhaps that’s one reason why, but I feel like it’d be such a nice compliment to be told somebody loves my perfume 😅

Do any of you have similar ‘missing’ compliments or things you wish other people admired/noticed?

Fairly sure I don’t smell bad, by the way 😅

"You look beautiful" from my DH. Sadly not hearing this since ages.

Horological · 20/02/2022 16:11

I always tell people when they smell nice because I think it's a lovely compliment!

I wish somebody would tell me that they can see I am working hard to keep things going. I have a lot of responsibilities in my life which often overwhelm me. There is little I can do to get out of them and it really grinds me down. If anybody told me they noticed and they thought it was worth it because some of the things I do make a difference, it would really help.

I often think my life is pointless and exhausting. If you see someone who is working very hard to keep things going, notice it and say something please!

the80sweregreat · 20/02/2022 16:11

I'll never hear ' you are beautiful' because I'm not!! Especially now I'm old too !! 😂

CailleachGranda · 20/02/2022 16:20

You're beautiful. Never heard it and never will now probably

You're appreciated. As a pp said, just to have someone notice

Poppiesmam · 20/02/2022 16:22

You would have been a great Mum (childless).... It would mean the world to me if someone said that.

ChargingBuck · 20/02/2022 16:23

"You are a noble, wise & intelligent human, whose qualities have been overlooked for too long - here is an anonymous donation of £10 million, also a pony, thank you for existing."

I don't want to reach for the moon, so is this the kind of modest aspiration you mean, OP?

Arnia · 20/02/2022 16:29

That I'm a good mother from my DH. I mean there's lots of room for improvement but I'd like a little encouragement nonetheless Grin it would have really given me a boost during their baby years when I was massively struggling with the transition but trying really hard. I realised I'm like an overgrown toddler in many ways in that I love a bit of praise Blush the lack of it during what was my hardest endurance test was really demotivating. My mum tells me but she thinks all her DC are brilliant no matter what we do so it's not exactly the same!

Arnia · 20/02/2022 16:30

Oh and this too! 😂

Ihopeyourcakeisshit · 20/02/2022 16:31

@Poppiesmam

You would have been a great Mum (childless).... It would mean the world to me if someone said that.
I would never dream of saying that though, for fear of rubbing salt in the wound so to speak.

I bet many have said it/thought it but wouldn't say it to your face for fear they'd upset you Flowers I have an aunt who I absolutely adore and she would have been a brilliant mum but sadly it didn't work out for them. I would be really afraid to put my foot in it by telling her this as I know it's a very sensitive topic. I often think it and say it to other family members though x

LimeSupper · 20/02/2022 16:35

I’m not sure but my four year old sneaked into my room this morning and said “mummy you’re smelly and beautiful”. Before I could respond she added “.. smelly like sunflowers”. Grin I’m not sure it’s the compliment I was waiting for but it really has made my day / life to be honest.

Peachtoiletpaper · 20/02/2022 16:38

'You have a beautiful singing voice'. Not gonna happen.

Pyewhacket · 20/02/2022 16:40

"That was delicious darling". I can't cook for toffee !.

Ihopeyourcakeisshit · 20/02/2022 16:40

A few weeks ago someone told me that because I had taken the time to talk to them that day, they had stopped feeling suicidal.
Not a compliment exactly, but it has made quite an impact on me and will certainly affect how I conduct myself in future.

👆🏼🤣

@Poppiesmam Life is so unfair - Flowers I used to work with a lady that wanted children, sadly due to surgeries it wasn’t possible but she would have been a great mum, as I’m sure you would. She was very vocal about her surgeries etc so it wasn’t awkward to raise the subject.

covilha · 20/02/2022 16:46

“And you know, the thing with Covilha is… and I have to say, this is incredibly rare, she has absolutely perfect pitch.”
Preferably by Sir Daniel Barenboin or John Wilson.
Or just about anyone really as any choir I have ever attempted to join has kicked me out fir being tone deaf! ( Which apparently is

5YearsLeft · 20/02/2022 16:54

“I just bought your book and I l couldn’t stop reading it.” I have not published a book, I’m terrified I’m not talented enough to write one, and I don’t have a lot of time left to sort it out if I do want to complete one. Ha.

EggbertHeartsTina · 20/02/2022 17:06

A friend told me a couple of weeks ago that I seemed like I “had my shit together” - I don’t feel like I do at all but I felt very good for hearing it

the80sweregreat · 20/02/2022 17:09

I've been told that ' I'm nice'
That'll do me ! 😂
I try to be to the ones I feel are worth it.

Ihopeyourcakeisshit · 20/02/2022 17:14

Nice is largely under rated imo!

HeadCreature · 20/02/2022 17:26

That I'm doing my job really well.

Although to be fair someone said something similar to me a while back and I got all flustered and started pointing out all the things I haven't done or don't do especially well.

welcometothechaos · 20/02/2022 17:29

That I'm enough ?

monkeysox · 20/02/2022 17:33

I have loved being told I'm kind.
I've loved being told I'm a good mum.
I've loved being told I'm a good teacher.

ChameFangeNail · 20/02/2022 17:34

I’ve always wanted to be propped to. No one has ever asked me to marry them and I doubt they ever will.

It’s silly because I’m actually very on the fence about the institution of marriage and can see as many cons to being married as there are pros. Which is why DP and I have never done it.

But it would’ve been so nice to hear that someone wanted to marry me.

ChameFangeNail · 20/02/2022 17:34

*proposed to!
