To ask what’s the compliment you’ve always wanted to receive?

As the title says, what’s the compliment you’d like to receive but haven’t?

When choosing a perfume this morning I realised I can’t recall anybody ever telling me that I smell nice, or asking what perfume I’m wearing. None of my partners have ever been interested in fragrances so perhaps that’s one reason why, but I feel like it’d be such a nice compliment to be told somebody loves my perfume 😅

Do any of you have similar ‘missing’ compliments or things you wish other people admired/noticed?

Fairly sure I don’t smell bad, by the way 😅

@Ihopeyourcakeisshit

A few weeks ago someone told me that because I had taken the time to talk to them that day, they had stopped feeling suicidal. Not a compliment exactly, but it has made quite an impact on me and will certainly affect how I conduct myself in future.
@Ihopeyourcakeisshit, your post brought tears to my eyes.

Once upon a time ago, I was that person and a kind stranger saw me crying and sat with me on a bench and was just present for when and if I wanted to talk. I wasn't quite suicidal but I was in a very dark place. My life had fallen apart and I didn't know how to make it all ok again. She stayed with me for over two hours and even though initially I was too upset to talk, I eventually opened up and she listened and helped me see that by tackling the issues step by step, things would slowly get better and eventually I was able to see that every problem has a solution and in the end things would be ok. And they are.

I've never forgotten her and although I never got the chance to properly thank her but I can say thank you to you, so THANK YOU! The world needs more people like you. ❤

Poppiesmam · 20/02/2022 17:37

@Ihopeyourcakeisshit Thanks, I can understand that but now that I have come to terms with it, it would be comforting to hear. I am Mam to a fur baby and Aunty to a lovely Niece now x

HermioneGrangersHair · 20/02/2022 17:37

You have nice teeth! ( I haven’t - they are crooked and not very white)

Poppiesmam · 20/02/2022 17:41

@Arnia Thanks, I have a Niece who I adore and I love as the Daughter I never had. It would just be nice to hear it and wouldn't hurt at this stage. I am Mam to a lovely fur baby now.

Poppiesmam · 20/02/2022 17:43

@Suzi888 Thanks, I have a lovely Niece and a fur baby to pour my love into now x

GailTheSnail · 20/02/2022 17:43

I'd love to be told I'm a good mum because it's the thing i put all my effort and thought into. I do think i am, but I'd like to hear it

FindingMeno · 20/02/2022 17:46

You're a naturally brilliant driver.

Ohmnomnom · 20/02/2022 17:58

You're a strong, confident woman that takes no shit and stands up for yourself. You are highly intelligent, quick witted and able to hold your own in just about any setting.

Unfortunately, I'm a socially awkward weirdo that struggles with eye contact and overthinking. I don't want to look or smell pretty, I want to strike fear into the hearts of my enemies dammit! 😂

CailleachGranda · 20/02/2022 18:02

@monkeysox

I have loved being told I'm kind. I've loved being told I'm a good mum. I've loved being told I'm a good teacher.
But you HAVE been told them.

I'm confused

CaptainThe95thRifles · 20/02/2022 20:25

"You strike fear into the hearts of your enemies" would do me too. "I'm in awe of your extreme physical prowess", "you're a crack shot" or "I'm picking you first for my team" would also be acceptable.

Alas all I ever hear is how beautiful, charming, intelligent, erudite and well groomed I am instead. Except nobody says those either Grin

WhatYouDontKnow · 20/02/2022 20:43

That I’m worthy of love and a romantic relationship/companionship, even though I can’t have sex.

monkeysox · 21/02/2022 15:01

@CailleachGranda yes but I wanted to be told that too.

Rogue1001MNer · 21/02/2022 15:10

To be told I'm pretty. To be told I'm cute. I always wanted to be cute, but (alas) too big and galumphing.
And no one's going to tell me I look thin these days either

Rogue1001MNer · 21/02/2022 15:11

@Peachtoiletpaper

'You have a beautiful singing voice'. Not gonna happen.
And this one too
Cheeseandlobster · 21/02/2022 15:16

I had abusive toxic parents. I used to volunteer at a centre for people with severe mental health problems and another volunteer, an older guy, said to me " I was never blessed with children but had I had a daughter I would have wanted her to be like you". He was a lovely kindly man in his seventies and as well as being the biggest compliment I ever had, it made me sad that I never had a loving dad and he never got to be a loving dad.

SunnyKlara · 21/02/2022 15:19

To be told I am beautiful. I have been told I am pretty on occasion, but beautiful is something else. I am also quite embarrassed to admit that, because there are more important things in life and it shouldn't matter!

Until this year, I would have also said that I wanted to be impressive. Kick ass, strong woman with her shit together and slightly intimidating. Then, I met my now dp and a few months ago he told me he was "in awe at my drive and ability to things happen" and it was one of the big things that attracted him to me. So I suppose that one has been crossed off the list!

Flowersandhearts · 21/02/2022 15:40

@Poppiesmam

You would have been a great Mum (childless).... It would mean the world to me if someone said that.
Aw, I hope you're okay Poppiesmam! (I'm [so far] childless too).

Hahaha!
stargirl1701 · 21/02/2022 15:51

A good mum from anyone.

Mrsjayy · 21/02/2022 15:55

I always tell people they smell nice I mean not randoms on the street cos that's just weird but people I know.

I wish people appreciated my singing as much as I do but sadly no Grin

Fridafever · 21/02/2022 15:57

I sort of want to say I’d like to be called kind of hard working if whatever.

Secretly I wish I’d been called pretty ever. I’m really not attractive and I have this sad part leftover from childhood that craves a bit of this.

Phyllis321 · 21/02/2022 16:03

The best compliment I ever received was in a mothers' day card from DS when he was about 6:
My mum is kind, brave and funny.

I would love to be called stylish. This will almost certainly never happen.

TimBoothseyes · 21/02/2022 16:34

I would love to be told I have beautiful eyes instead of the usual...." Wow you've got one pupil bigger than the other, that's weird" which is the reason I try to avoid eye contact with people.

Coyoacan · 21/02/2022 16:37

That I look a lot better than my passport photo

Gardeningdream · 21/02/2022 16:41

Wow, I’m so in awe of you and the fact you’re a self made billionaire.

😃
