Neighbours' Dog

We have new neighbours at the back of our house, so our house looks out onto their back garden and vice versa.
They seem to leave their dog out in the garden every day. Not sure if it's all day as garden isn't all visible but he's out there a fair bit, howling and trying to get in for hours at a time. They've left him out there today in torrential rain and awful winds, and he's running about, crying and looking frightened. I don't know what to do. I've heard the RSPCA won't do anything in situations like this but leaving him outside in this weather seems cruel. Any ideas? We don't know them as houses are on different roads and they're very new.

Next time report online (police and council dog warden) that you suspect they have a pitbull.. They can then explain why it has docked ears... Being locked out isn't a police matter but those issues certainly are.

KeepingAnOpenMind · 18/02/2022 18:00

I heard about a cruelty case like this and ended up buying the dog off the abuser. If I lived next door I’d knock a hole in the fence and get it. Id find this intolerable.

Namechange749 · 18/02/2022 18:26

Have to admit, it crossed my mind that he was a pitbull but I don't know much about bull breeds. He looks too big to be a staffie. To be fair, these owners might have "rescued" him, but if so, seems to be a case of out of the frying pan and into the fire. Poor lad. Or lass.

Omg OP please report that dog! It's a dangerous breed. I feel for it being left outside all day but no way should you leave that animal unchecked by a professional checking his breed.

14thtimelucky · 18/02/2022 18:34

It looks like an American bulldog

14thtimelucky · 18/02/2022 18:35

And they aren’t dangerous

ShinyHappyPeephole · 18/02/2022 18:37

@14thtimelucky

And they aren’t dangerous
Pitbull by another name. There are many reports of them being dangerous.
Easterbunnyiswindowshopping · 18/02/2022 18:41

The police have powers to remove for dna testing. Possibly they will surrender it rather than have awkward questions.

Prisonbreak · 18/02/2022 18:58

Those of you jumping on the clipped ears train. My boy has clipped ears. I rescued him and this was how he came and I face this ignorance daily. I am judged and scowled at constantly. Have a think before you jump to conclusions.

Guineapigssweak · 18/02/2022 19:13

Poor dog. Staffie types hate being in the cold and WI d and love hugs and sofas! The owners are cruel and should be owning any dog!!.Wish I was the neighbour I would rescue the poor thing.

Guineapigssweak · 18/02/2022 19:13

Sorry wind #

14thtimelucky · 18/02/2022 19:14

No they aren’t pitbulls.
Why talk about something you know nothing about as if you do?
They are a cross between a staff and a bully and if you read about the breed you’ll feel like a really silly billy.

14thtimelucky · 18/02/2022 19:15

And they aren’t dangerous, just to reiterate.

fairylightsandwaxmelts · 18/02/2022 19:21

Pitbull by another name. There are many reports of them being dangerous.

American Bulldogs and Pitbulls are completely different breeds.

bagelsandcheese · 18/02/2022 19:43

Poor dog. why are people so cruel. can't imagine how cold he must be. Please report to the rspca. tell them he has no shelter and you don't know whether he has food. I can't believe people can be so evil.

Wiennetta · 18/02/2022 19:53

You’re right of course @Prisonbreak but a dog locked outside in this weather + clipped ears makes me think = negligent owners who got the poor dog for the wrong reasons and had its ears clipped.

A well looked after dog being walked in the park makes me think = rescue.

Suzi888 · 18/02/2022 19:55

Poor dog. Please come and let us know what happened.
RSPCA won’t do anything unless they don’t have access to water.

Prisonbreak · 18/02/2022 19:59

I agree the poor soul shouldn’t be left outside but people need to stop judging by appearance.

AllThingsServeTheBeam · 18/02/2022 19:59

Christ don't report it for being a pit bull. Would you honestly be ok with the police taking it away and killing it just because?!

Put a letter through their door regarding it being outside and distressed. They may not know.

AllThingsServeTheBeam · 18/02/2022 20:00

@ShineyHappyPeephole don't spout shit

Easterbunnyiswindowshopping · 18/02/2022 20:09

The police do dna testing their don't just pts!! If they were rescuing it they wouldn't be continuing to abuse it!

Indoctro · 18/02/2022 20:14

Way to big for a staffy they are max height 16"

America bulldog or something like that

Someone did this near my house, left dogs out all day

I contacted dog warden who went round to tell them there had been a complaint and dogs weren't left outside and suddenly a dog Walker appeared daily

Call dog warden and say dog is making a noise.

AllThingsServeTheBeam · 18/02/2022 20:15

That literally doesn't make it better ffs
HideousKinky · 18/02/2022 20:17

Please call RSPCA

Easterbunnyiswindowshopping · 18/02/2022 20:19

So in police care isn't better than being abused? Give your head a shake...
Being pts is better than abuse... And if it is a pit bull and been abused it's demeanor won't be great if it got out...
