I had hoped to take dc to cinema today. Our local cinema is part of a shopping centre so once you get there and park in the multi storey car park you don't have to go outside to access it. It's about a 15 minute drive. Dh says I'm silly to go out in the storm - we are inland and it's not really ramped up yet, lots of rain but no wind yet. Although it is set to get worse later.

I obviously wouldn't plan to do anything outdoorsy with dc today but would you cancel something like this because of the weather?

Are you in the red or amber warning area?

GiantSpider · 18/02/2022 07:27

We're in the (newly extended) red area and I won't be going out today.

Mumofsend · 18/02/2022 07:27

Is it even open?

sallyslytherin · 18/02/2022 07:29

We are in amber area. We are very inland and other than a lot of rain it doesn't seem too bad here yet. I was expecting to be woken by the wind in the night but it's been pretty calm. It's meant to ramp up around lunchtime however.

It is a day for staying home IMO

GeneLovesJezebel · 18/02/2022 07:31

Yes, I’d go.
Lots of us will still be going out to work.

TopCatsTopHat · 18/02/2022 07:32

Would probably depend on the route, if you had car trouble would you be in walking distance to shelter or stuck. Are there lots of trees along the way...
But then if you're just going to see a film you could do that at home and save that film for tomorrow.
I don't have a strong opinion either way cos I suppose it depends, could the cinema trip wait, if so why not postpone. If the route is short and not stuffed full of hazards you'd probably be fine.

Liondolphin · 18/02/2022 07:33

PJ day for us. Film and pop corn ar home, board games, and some clearing out of stuff. We are coastal red zone.

Sad Did have plans to travel

catchingzzzeds · 18/02/2022 07:34

I'd probably leave it, I'm in a red area and it's not bad at all at the moment so it's quite deceiving but it's forecast to be bad from 10am.

Grasping · 18/02/2022 07:35

I’m definitely staying home and grateful for an excuse not to go anywhere tbh!

Make a fun day inside OP. Watch some films and let the kids make popcorn, pizza, cook brownies or something.

Grasping · 18/02/2022 07:36

Firstly, I’m about to go and move the cars around.

WispaBurgerbites · 18/02/2022 07:38

Depends if its open. Loads of places by us are closing.

OfstedOffred · 18/02/2022 07:40

I'm worrying, we are in red zone but supposed to be driving 1.5 hours across it to attend a wedding. I'd rather not be out in my car but feel really really bad for B&G

Redlorryyellowduck · 18/02/2022 07:40

Stay indoors. I imagine emergency services will be busy enough soon without non essential travellers.

WinterIcelandicPony22 · 18/02/2022 07:43

Red area for us.

School cancelled [yay!]

Online schooling going ahead [deflates]

EmbarrassedAllOver · 18/02/2022 07:44

Would you be able to live with yourself if the wind picked up and you had a resulting car crash? Presumably by the time you leave the wind will be worse.

I wouldn't want to be on the roads today, let alone take my child.

I'm sorry but sometimes you need to amend plans for safety. There's a national storm - do the right thing and stay indoors.

Also agree with pp, emergency services will be very stretched so if anything happens you could be on your own an awfully long time.

ithoughtisawapuddycat · 18/02/2022 07:44

In the amber zone here but right on the west coast. Our whole office is working from home today as quite a few people travel quite a distance to get to the office. Just a bit wet and windy here currently but due to ramp up from about 9am.

Hubby has had to go to work and his workplace is on the seafront so hoping he finds some indoor jobs today.

icelollycraving · 18/02/2022 07:45

Stay at home. Not essential to be out so stay in. It’s bloody vile out!

Don't go, it's not safe. Gutting but not much you can do about mother nature. Definitely don't take children out in this weather, the roads will be brutal, it's not safe.
inappropriateraspberry · 18/02/2022 07:46

Day at home. Red area so not venturing out at all! DD has still got craft sets from Xmas so may do some of that with her, otherwise just potter about and hope electricity stays on otherwise DS won't get his CBeebies fix!

FourChimneys · 18/02/2022 07:46

Probably better to stay at home. The emergency services will be busy enough without people making completely unnecessary journeys. Perhaps a good opportunity to talk about civic responsibility and managing disappointment with your DS.

DoYouRememberTheInnMiranda · 18/02/2022 07:48

I'm at a hotel in the new red zone - no idea what we'll do as we planned a day out but that seems irresponsible.
The menu here is not ideal for the kids though, and we were definitely going out for lunch after they had the same meal for lunch and tea yesterday... Pales in comparison to a car crash etc I know but still annoying if they end up with the same meal another 2 times...

I'm the same! Supposed to be traveling today for a wedding Sad not sure if we should risk it or not as feel really bad to bail last minute
Sausagedogsarethebest · 18/02/2022 07:53

I'm South East and they've upgraded us to red from about 10am. I'm already in work though as I leave early, and it wasn't too bad at 7am.

I made sure all my wheelie bins were secured in the back garden before I left, so that they're not off down the street during the day. Just hoping nothing falls off any of the trees near my parked car during the day.

ikeepseeingit · 18/02/2022 07:53

I’m staying home as I work here, in an amber area along coast with winds of up to 86mph. My customer wouldn’t cancel when I asked if she wanted to. Not entirely sure that’s a good idea to be honest. Second and last customer of the day has moved it to tomorrow. I’d much rather the first one came tomorrow for her own sake. Maybe she’ll see sense before she comes and check the weather app?
