Car

I found a car I want to buy on gumtree from a seller. The seller lives in Manchester which is 3/4 hours away from me so he has offered to use a delivery service. He’s told me ‘PayPal/Hermes is offering the escrow payment/delivery service and uShip will handle the transport’. However I will need to pay via bank transfer or PayPal to delivery company rather than actual seller and they will hold money until I receive, inspect and agree to keep vehicle. I will also have a 5 day refund policy so if I want to return for any reason then the transport company will transfer money back in to my account. Can anyone tell me if this seems legitimate? Thank you

Scam.
Scam. Incase you misheard. Scam.

ComtesseDeSpair · 17/02/2022 11:50

No. It’s a scam. If you’re buying from a private seller, you need to go and see and collect the car yourself.

RincewindsHat · 17/02/2022 11:50

Ask the delivery company.

vodkaredbullgirl · 17/02/2022 11:51

Essentialgarage · 17/02/2022 11:54

Dogscanteatonions · 17/02/2022 12:03

I've got a Nigerian prince right here who will buy that car off you if it doesn't work out.

Anon253 · 17/02/2022 12:07

I thought it would be a scam but because he offered to use PayPal they are really good at refunding money if scammed. There is no need to be so rude

Have you priced the same make and model in a car showroom ask yourself why there is such a massive difference ???
Do not touch this seller with a bargepole it is a total SCAM so avoid like the plague or you will lose your money for sure and have no car.

They aren't always! Honestly this really really does sound like a scam. I'd avoid avoid avoid.
vodkaredbullgirl · 17/02/2022 12:14

Buy the car and come back and tell us how you got on.

gogohm · 17/02/2022 12:15

AchillesPoirot · 17/02/2022 12:17

Honestly yes this is a scam.

BlusteryLake · 17/02/2022 12:21

@Tomnooktoldmeto

Seriously? If you can’t see this is a scam and you’re not just yanking everyone’s chain then ask a responsible adult to take control of your banking because you’re a danger to yourself HTH
The OP thought the set up seemed suspicious so came here to see if others did too. They do so she is going to go with her gut which was also that this seems fishy. No need for you to be so snippy. Are you always that aggressive and rude?
Anon253 · 17/02/2022 12:26

He has also sent me his passport. He’s seems legit. Im not sure

Are you buying a car through gumtree that you haven't seen?

Aside from fact that the automatic assumption gumtree is that you will be scammed

‘PayPal/Hermes is offering the escrow payment/delivery service and uShip will handle the transport couldn't scream scam any louder if it tried GrinGrin

What do you understand by the term escrow?

ohhooh · 17/02/2022 12:28

Everyone : It's a scam

OP: But PayPal

Everyone : it's a scam

OP : passport!

OP ITS A SCAM

Please please don't be fooled by PayPal / passport photos. If it's 45 minutes then I'm sure there is transport for you to be able to go and view / collect the car!

marqueses · 17/02/2022 12:29

Be sure, be very sure, IT IS A SCAM. HE IS NOT LEGIT

Seriously, even if it was his passport what has that got to do with anything? In what way is that giving you comfort? Have you met him?

Chloemol · 17/02/2022 12:30

Anon253 · 17/02/2022 12:34
