Feminist birth giver????

ImJustMadAboutSaffron · 17/02/2022 11:26

Reading a thread on Facebook this morning in one of the groups I'm a member of. A member (she and I have a mutual friend) has said that she comes from a traditional family of a feminist birth giver and a father (and siblings).

It's entirely possible to be a mother and a feminist, so why yet another label?

AIBU to find this annoying?

Did you reply ‘I don’t know what this means’?

WouldIwasShookspeared · 17/02/2022 11:30

A feminist birth giver and a father?

So, a mother and a father?

Why are men allowed their names and women not?

If she's got a birth giver then she should have a sperm supplier, not a father.

Seriously. Fuck. This. Shit.

Refer to her dad as her sperm supplier and see how quickly she kicks off. 🙄

Sexnotgender · 17/02/2022 11:30

Funny how the father gets to keep his title.

What a load of wank.

BarrowInFurnessRailwayStation · 17/02/2022 11:32

She's an amateur. She should be calling herself the 'gestational unit' 😄

cuno · 17/02/2022 11:37

It sounds very anti-feminist and rather misogynist to declare someone a feminist birth giver. Of course you can be a feminist and a mother... but you can't be a feminist while spouting the term "feminist birth giver" surely? Seems very misaligned. Feminism is meant to centre women! Sadly too many people fail to grasp this.

cherrysthename · 17/02/2022 11:42

Utterly pathetic. Try-hard and totally anti-feminist- prat.

ComDummings · 17/02/2022 11:47

It’s so dumb

Gowithme · 17/02/2022 11:49

Why would you call yourself that rather than mother? I don't get it.

lifeturnsonadime · 17/02/2022 11:51

Be Kind , women have to always think of others before themselves.

She believes that this is inclusive language.

PleasantBirthday · 17/02/2022 11:53

A feminist birth giver and a nondescript birth watcher.

picklemewalnuts · 17/02/2022 11:53

Were the children taken away at birth? Surely the feminist parent did more than birth them. Current phrasing suggest they were raised entirely by the father.

DoubleYouOhEmAyEn · 17/02/2022 11:53

Father remains, mother erased. Yay for feminism.

WouldIwasShookspeared · 17/02/2022 12:17

I'm starting to believe we should refuse to use the words man and father and kick up a massive fuss about it. I bet the same people who want to erase woman and mother would not want to do the same for man and father and it would excellently highlight the truth of their agenda.

HedgehogintheFog · 17/02/2022 12:22

From that description I would assume her 'birth-giver' was not a 'mother' to her. It sounds like she is referring to a surrogate, or an absent mother, with whom she had some contact , but who was not a parent to her in the way her father was. I assume this is not the case, as these situations would not usually be referred to as a 'traditional family'. Very strange.

Abhannmor · 17/02/2022 12:23

Perhaps she is being humorous? Why isn't her DP a sperm donor though...

Stressedout1009 · 17/02/2022 12:24

@Sexnotgender

Funny how the father gets to keep his title.

What a load of wank.

And funny how it's a woman who is perpetuating this nonsense. A woman.
PseudoplasticFluid · 17/02/2022 12:30

Sounds fucking dreadful. What's wrong with the words mother / woman. She makes herself sound like an object or a tool. A piece of machinery. Something you could buy at the store. A carrier. A toaster. An oven. A sandwich maker. A feminist birth giver. Not a human being. Or an adult human female.

LampLighter414 · 17/02/2022 12:32

Good for her.

RufustheFloralmissingreindeer · 17/02/2022 12:46

Wonder what her mother thinks about being called a feminist birthgiver

Nobody ever explains why men are allowed to keep all their male related titles, I mean I know why but I'd like to hear them try to think up some sort of other reason for it, just for the entertainment factor
VelvetChairGirl · 17/02/2022 13:16

what a complete numpty. its gestational units and seed factories.

birth giver, who is giving out births?

Oprah

You get a birth!

You get a birth!

You get a birth!

HeckyPeck · 17/02/2022 13:55

I would be tempted to reply and say that using the term father isn't very inclusive and suggest seed giver for future reference.

GroggyLegs · 17/02/2022 13:59

Oh aye.
Birth givers... Very traditional.

Not like that new fangled social construct 'Mother'

You know that's probably the best way to defeat the attack on women's language
