To go to A&E?

I’ve never had any kind of reaction to anything before.

Went for lunch at a cafe with my friend and our babies. Used the hand sanitizer (alcohol based) in the toilet and instant agony, hand swelling up. I was in there 5 minutes biting my lip in pain and soaking my hand under cold water. My friend ended up in coming in and checking on me as she’d started to wonder why I had been so long.

Had to ring DH to be picked up as pushing the pram was agony.

Been home an hour now and am still in so much pain. My hands are swollen and red and bleeding in places. When I say it’s agony I mean it. Having read up online, alcoholic hand sanitisers don’t usually cause allergic reactions and it’s more likely to be a chemical burn.

WIBU to go to minor injuries? I’m in that much pain I can’t tend to my baby.

Of course you can go to minor injuries if you are in so much pain you can't do normal tasks. You don't need permission

2022IamHavingYa · 16/02/2022 14:32

Can you show us a picture? I would go to see somebody though if the pain is so much you can’t look after your baby

Duracellbunnywannabe · 16/02/2022 14:32

You definitely need medical attention!

Sebastianthecoo · 16/02/2022 14:32

Can you go to local pharmacy for advice first and they can say if it needs a&e? Did you tell the cafe so they can remove it, possibly check it wasn’t filled up with the wrong thing?

Toanewstart23 · 16/02/2022 14:33

Piriton
Now

MotherOfCrocodiles · 16/02/2022 14:33

Go to a and E but also tell the cafe! What if someone accidentally put bleach in there? They need warning

Toanewstart23 · 16/02/2022 14:34

I’d take an antihistamine
Wait 30 mins
And only then consider MI

Chocolattay · 16/02/2022 14:35

Yes cafe staff were told and are taking it out of the bathroom and reporting it to the suppliers.

I can type but it hurts so much.

It feels hot. Like my hand is becoming hot. The picture doesn’t really do it justice, it’s very very red in real life

To go to A&E?

Or a pharmacist?

LuckyAmy1986 · 16/02/2022 14:40

Omg go!

LuckyAmy1986 · 16/02/2022 14:41

Minor injuries/ pharmacy anywhere. Just get something for it asap!!

OnceuponaRainbow18 · 16/02/2022 14:41

Ooh ouch! I would probably try a pharmacy first

ShittyFingers · 16/02/2022 14:42

That looks like a chemical burn (I’m a nurse)
Is it spreading?

Theyellowflamingo · 16/02/2022 14:42

It sounds like a chemical burn - if you’d stuck your hands in a fire and burnt them you’d go to A&E, or at very least minor injuries. Especially given it’s your hands. Seek medical help.

Toanewstart23 · 16/02/2022 14:43

Take an antihistamine
Go to a pharmacist
In the time to do this - you’ll just have been registered at the MI clinic

Bellex · 16/02/2022 14:43

Do you not have a walk in centre or same day help centre near you?

Trying ringing 111 or your doctors to get an emergency appointment

Toanewstart23 · 16/02/2022 14:43

Put a biro mark around the redness and swelling so you can track

LadyCleathStuart · 16/02/2022 14:44

I have a son with allergies, that honestly doesn't seem like a reaction and as you suggest more like a burn. Don't listen to the idiots trying to convince you not to go, go get it checked out. Minor injuries/A&E/pharmacy whatever. It's not just something to ignore.

liveforsummer · 16/02/2022 14:44

I mean I probably wouldn't go as I'm one that needs an arm hanging off to even contemplate it but you absolutely should if it's as bad as you say and only you know the pain and if it's unbearable/if it's getting worse. Don't hang around until enough strangers on the internet have approved it.

Chocolattay · 16/02/2022 14:44

It is spreading a bit. The rash is starting to ‘gather’ with redness at the top of my wrist now.

I’m scared to touch baby in case there’s chemicals left on my hand.

It looks like chemical burns. It needs cleaning, medicating and dressing. I have terrible contact dermatitis and my hands look like that if I clean without wearing gloves.

PigeonLittle · 16/02/2022 14:44

Please go Flowers

Redglitter · 16/02/2022 14:45

I'd definitely go to A&E. It looks awful.

Chocolattay · 16/02/2022 14:45

DH will be back from work at 4:15 (he helped us out before on his lunch break) so I will go then.
