To go to A&E?

I’ve never had any kind of reaction to anything before.

Went for lunch at a cafe with my friend and our babies. Used the hand sanitizer (alcohol based) in the toilet and instant agony, hand swelling up. I was in there 5 minutes biting my lip in pain and soaking my hand under cold water. My friend ended up in coming in and checking on me as she’d started to wonder why I had been so long.

Had to ring DH to be picked up as pushing the pram was agony.

Been home an hour now and am still in so much pain. My hands are swollen and red and bleeding in places. When I say it’s agony I mean it. Having read up online, alcoholic hand sanitisers don’t usually cause allergic reactions and it’s more likely to be a chemical burn.

WIBU to go to minor injuries? I’m in that much pain I can’t tend to my baby.

Agree with perdito that the manufacturer of both sanitiser and hand cream should be notified. Either the former was tampered with or the latter contains something that reacts badly with an ingredient in the sanitiser.

In pain today 😣

The redness has gone but it’s been replaced by brown. As if my hand has been tanned. Moving my hands is agony. The skin on my knuckles is peeling as well

Oh you poor thing Flowers.

Did they advise about aftercare ?Hope you've taken painkillers .

HI OP - out of interest how did they treat it?

Yourinmyspot · 17/02/2022 19:55

I’m glad you went and got it sorted. I had a nasty chemical burn from Deep Heat a few years ago. I didn’t go to a&e and went to my GP the next day, she was pretty horrified that I didn’t go to a&e. I hope it’s feeling less sore soon.

Just read the full thread and so glad you got treated. Can you try a light oil on them if they're stiff and peeling today? I hope they recover soon.

I had a similar reaction (using out of date suncream) 20+ years ago and it triggered all sorts of skin allergies so please take care going forward and patch test anything new.

Can you try the gp for some temporary decent pain relief?

MrsR87 · 19/02/2022 16:23

How are you today @Chocolattay. Has the pain eased at all?
