To think Next are up their own arse

I swear Next used to be pretty well rated, decent quality. Now it's just a load of over priced, cheaply made tat.
I have to shop in the petite section, which is a joke because at 5"2 (not that short I don't think), I still struggle to find any jeans/trousers that aren't a good few inches too long still. But it's so hit and miss because even in identical styles the sizing is all over the place. I can fit in a size 14 in one colour and the size 18 is too tight in another colour but has a saggy crotch chucked in for good measure or a waist so high I could tuck it under my tits.
This is the same even with their exclusive brands. Bought two identical Lipsy dresses in different colours. One fit ok but a little loose around the bum. I couldn't even get the other over my head for fear of ripping the waistband.
Their own clothing is so often just frumpy crap in horrible fabric with some big tacky sparkly star shoved on the front to "jazz it up". The stuff that is actually nice is horrendously overpriced.
Then you get to the furniture. It's all MDF and oak veneer. AKA cheap tat. But it's not cheap, it's expensive. You could literally buy the same quality of furniture for half the price in Argos.
And there are never any discount codes available or cash back affiliations like Quidco. (other than their quarterly sales where they roll out the extra crap crap). Even John Lewis isn't so stuck up that they aren't willing to chuck out some cash back offers or release little discount codes.
Oh, and you can't review anything, you have to be invited to leave reviews!
I get this is first world problems but Next happens to the be only department type shop anywhere near where I live and I keep trying with them, but I'm hacked off that I can't find a single pair of trousers that fits my dumpy ass properly.
Is it just me? Am I just being to unrealistic about what to expect from a major retailer?

I have never understood the love for Next. Mediocre, uninteresting clothes for the most part. Their annual next day delivery service has been useful with the kids - I have found them useful for socks and school uniform and a few bits when they were younger, but that's pretty much it.

BobMortimersPetOwl · 17/02/2022 10:20

I've had some nice home bits here and there over the years but the clothes have never really been my thing. They're OK for basic staples like vests and leggings but I'm not a fan of the styling of their other stuff.

It used to be a nice shop to go in years ago but now it's filled with tat and there's racks crammed in all over the place. As soon as that starts happening I stop going.

I used to like Next for its Tall range and wide fitting larger shoes and didn't mind paying extra for the quality. But now lots of their trousers are in the Tall section but actually are only Long. They used to do XXL tall which was up to 35 inch leg and now their Tall is just up to 33inch which is too short. Similarly their Tall dresses and tops aren't really proportioned correctly, they're just saggy and frumpy or dresses are longer but the waist and bust is not in the right place. Their wide fit shoes don't actually seem to be wide and the sizing options for clothes and shoes aren't as good. Homeward definitely seemed to be better quality. It's such a shame.

George Davies , the founder of Next, which is celebrating its 40th birthday, was interviewed by the Sunday Times on Sunday last.

He recalled that 40 years ago "Although London was different, in the provinces there were too many chains selling low cost, low quality clothes."

Next was going to be different. And initially it was.

Now Next is emulating that low cost, low quality model.
Sad

I tried buying a women's dressing gown in there. They didn't have a single one longer than thigh length, or with pockets. I got a lovely one in the men's section though. Clearly only men are allowed warm knees, and somewhere to keep their phone and tissues 🙄

The baby stuff is lovely and we didn't find anywhere else that could compete with the choice of sizes for sofas - we've had them a few years and they still look very smart. Ladies' sizing is bonkers though - post baby I was struggling to fit into a 10 even in places like M&S but was delighted to have to buy a size 6 dress from Next 😂

chasegirl · 25/02/2022 19:40

Totally agree. Only 5ft 1 and really stuggle to get clothes, Next used to be good but they seem to only do petite is really boring things and limited colours.

Their shoes are odd sizes too

TAKESNOSHITSHIRLEY · 25/02/2022 19:58

try being a 6ft woman with a 36 inch leg

been my life since i was 12(yes 6ft at 12)

im even to tall for long which is usually a 33 leg

ive resorted to mens jeans for years

cansu · 25/02/2022 20:09

I agree. Next used to be better quality. I have stopped buying because pics look nice but fabric and actual garment looks like cheap crap when it arrives.
