Between the Mothership and I.....
Are menstrual products "sanitaryWARE" or "sanitaryWEAR"?

Mum went to the loo in a national trust place and saw a sign saying not to flush "sanitaryware", and thought it was an error. I'm not sure. Google hasn't helped.

Any thoughts?

Sanitary wear. Sanitary ware is the actual toilet/basin etc.

Speakuptomakeyourselfheard · 14/02/2022 19:48

I think it was spelt correctly ie, sanitaryware.

T00Ts · 14/02/2022 19:48

Sanitaryware is, I think, correct. It refers to the gubbins involved. Like hardware, Tupperware….other ‘wares’ I can’t think of right now.

HadaVerde · 14/02/2022 19:49

I think wear.

HadaVerde · 14/02/2022 19:50

Actually I don’t have a clue. Maybe it’s ware?!

ChittyBangs · 14/02/2022 19:50

I think wear

thelonggame · 14/02/2022 19:50

I'd have thought Sanitary Ware is the toilet etc, and sanitary wear is what you use.

Batshittery · 14/02/2022 19:51

Sanitary wear.

Loopytiles · 14/02/2022 19:51

Wear. Agree with the first poster in response to the OP.

Theunamedcat · 14/02/2022 19:51

Wear as in you wear it? Surely? I mean you wear pads and period knickers but do you wear a tampon? Can you wear a moon cup?

I guess that's why most places go with products

Cotswoldmama · 14/02/2022 19:53

Ware

mnahmnah · 14/02/2022 19:54

No it’s ware like a product. Sanitary product

BaconOmelette · 14/02/2022 19:54

Wear is a verb and ware is a noun so I’d say sanitary ware.

AdaColeman · 14/02/2022 19:55

Sanitary ware are the items such as the washbasins, bidets and toilets, made from chinaware.
Sanitary wear are the feminine hygiene products.

mnahmnah · 14/02/2022 19:55

Google doesn’t even recognise sanitary wear

PickledOnionSandwich · 14/02/2022 19:56

Ware is the loo/basin etc
Wear is pads/tampons etc

HunterHearstHelmsley · 14/02/2022 19:59

Sanitaryware. Although I'd assume you meant a toilet etc.

Sanitary wear doesn't make sense.

Tinkerbellflowers · 14/02/2022 20:00

@BaconOmelette

Wear is a verb and ware is a noun so I’d say sanitary ware.
But we have nightwear. 🤔

It's 'wear' in that context.

You shouldn't flush sanitary wear down the sanitary ware.

PastMyBestBeforeDate · 14/02/2022 20:02

Sanitaryware is the toilet and basin
Sanitarywear is the feminine hygiene products.

KylieCharlene · 14/02/2022 20:03

It's wear

isthismylifenow · 14/02/2022 20:03

Google only brings up sanitary ware, and this is for places to buy a loo, sink etc.

The poster should say sanitary items I think.

Merryoldgoat · 14/02/2022 20:05

@Mbash

You need to start your own thread.

How can you love someone who treats you poorly and uses you for sex?

Ffs.

RitaFires · 14/02/2022 20:06

I've only ever seen sanitaryware refer to toilets and sinks so I'd think you'd have to use wear to mean period products but there should be a better universal name for people to use.
