Are menstrual products "sanitaryWARE" or "sanitaryWEAR"?

Mum went to the loo in a national trust place and saw a sign saying not to flush "sanitaryware", and thought it was an error. I'm not sure. Google hasn't helped.

Any thoughts?

If a toilet is sanitary ware and and sanitary items are wear, then what is a sheewee?
