What does impeccable personal hygiene look like you?

Showering daily is definitely on the list, oral hygiene, clean clothes. But what else looks like impeccable personal hygiene and good grooming to you?
**@pawpaws2022* I wash with bar soap then shower gel and legs, feet, the lot*

Washing twice seems a little excessive
My skin actually feels much better since I've started doing it, smoother and softer
I use the bar soap for armpits, back, under boobs, feet and around my neck and then a moisturising shower gel or oil all over
The soap cleans and the gel adds the scent and moisture back

I Always use bar soap, it's the only thing that makes me feel properly clean. I bulk buy the grapefruit or orange glycerine soaps from BodyShop. No plastic!

If I can smell your washing detergent as you pass me I'll assume you're clean and fresh. Ear wax, crusty eyes, dirt in their nails and any smells at the start of the working day means they've skipped a shower or wash that morning.
Odd. I would assume they're using too much detergent.

It's completely possible to have bad breath and sparkling white teeth, so fuck knows why Essex-white gnashers are seen as the hallmark of good hygiene.

Fizbosshoes · 15/02/2022 08:32

I would say impeccable hygiene and impeccable grooming are two different things.

Hygiene is ... cleanliness i suppose and grooming is the fancy stuff on top like make up, and hair do.

I agree. Having joggers with shoes or unplugged eye rows doesn't make you less hygienic but that would come under grooming.

I actually think the question us slightly oddly worded. What does good hygeine look like? Well I generally can't see if someone has showered, put clean underwear on or used deodorant that day? I might be able to see if their hair was still wet from washing it (but then that would not be well groomed Confused) , or at the other end of the scale, very greasy!

My nails are appalling because I do a practical job which means they get dirty and jagged, but it doesn't bother me of people judge me on them. In fact if I see someone with uber perfect nails, I assume they never do any dirty or practical jobs.

I think that hygiene is different to grooming.

Hygiene is surely daily showers, clean hair and teeth, clean hands, clean underwear and clothes, clean bed and home.

Grooming is stuff like nails, scent, ironing.

You can be very clean and hygienic but a bit scruffy.

LuckyAmy1986 · 15/02/2022 08:38

@Doyouknowtheway I wouldn’t judge people on ear wax. My ears produce too much which I find hard to keep on top of. I’m also not allowed to get my ears wet at all. I have to wear plugs to shower my hair due to severe damage from ear infections (funny ear canal shape) and I know a lot of people suffer with their ears

bumblingbovine49 · 15/02/2022 08:39

People are confusing hygiene on here with what they find attractive and good grooming . What the hell has the combination of trousers and shoes you wear got to do with good hygiene?Confused

wingscrow · 15/02/2022 08:55
 • daily shower
 • clean hair
 • trimmed/clean nails
 • brushing teeth twice a day and regular dentist/hygienist check-ups
 • clean clothes and shoes
 • smelling nice (not stinking of tobacco or last night's take-away...)
 • living in a reasonably clean and tidy home.
Postdatedpandemic · 15/02/2022 09:07

I'm totally up for people washing their clothes and bodies plus cleaning their teeth.
Impeccable hygiene makes me think of allergies, eczema and auto immune issues. www.vox.com/2014/6/25/5837892/is-being-too-clean-making-us-sick

I use unscented detergent. Scented generally smells awful and artificial.

Ideally good hygeine should be standard (although I know people's standards do vary) but grooming is (IMO) different.
Some people will be more high maintenance and spend a lot of time and money on tweaking their appearance, other people choose not to, or might not have the time or budget for it.
I sometimes go out with wet hair after I've washed it, because I like it to dry naturally and don't want to wake up an hour or so earlier to do that. Someone with different grooming standards would have made time to dry and style their hair.
I know people who do parkrun with a full face of make up, to me that would be a waste of time as I would get sweaty and red and have a shower afterwards anyway. Neither is right or wrong.
