Another woman has resigned... when will it be the big man's turn?!

OP posts:
LakieLady · 10/02/2022 21:18

Good. She was woefully bad.

I'm both angry and sad that the first woman to hold the top policing job was such an utter disaster.

formalineadeline · 10/02/2022 21:23

I think the institution should be replaced in its entirety tbh. Corruption is the foundation, the core, the everything of the Met. That's not going to ever be resolved by tinkering and firing "bad people".

Wrongkindofovercoat · 10/02/2022 21:27

I am sure the next candidate from the pool of largely white middle aged males will bring a whole new level of understanding to the issues facing the Met.

LexMitior · 10/02/2022 21:28

Its good but you do wonder at the timing. Presumably it means that there will not be a successor to deal with all the Downing St problems - because of course there will be a lot of questions there, never mind the issues with misogyny in the Met which are longstanding and not new.

She should’ve gone when that Brazilian man got shot dead on the tube.

Bootikin · 10/02/2022 22:02

She has been appalling. The misogyny and abuse of women under her watch has been off the scale.

She is not a woman, she’s is a Tory stooge. Hard to think how anyone coyld be worse.

She is poison.

Hellokittyninja · 10/02/2022 22:06

Finally, she should have gone in 2005.

cocktailclub · 10/02/2022 22:08

A woman has resigned because the behaviour of men in the police force is in question! That's what makes me cross.

PurpleDaisies · 10/02/2022 22:09

It is unbelievable that she’s been in the job so long. She’s been absolutely dreadful.

hibbledibble · 10/02/2022 22:12

Out of interest, what evidence do people have, in order to label Cressida Dick 'terrible'?

Is it the actions of a single off duty officer?

Had an innocent man murdered. Lied about the circumstances. Smeared his reputation afterwards. Was then promoted twice.
Thedogscollar · 10/02/2022 22:16

It's been a very long time coming.

The MET need a strong leader to purge that very large barrel of bad apples.

Next BJ but he will never resign so will have to be pushed. It might be dragging on but it ain't over yet.

Berengaria1 · 10/02/2022 22:19

Khan needs to go too. Aside from issues within the Met, he is Police and Crime Commissioner for London and under his watch violent crime, particularly knife crime amongst young people has escalated. He wanted Cressida Dick in the role. He's only interested in political gestures like this, not in the welfare of his citizens.

PurpleDaisies · 10/02/2022 22:22

You clearly haven’t read very much about the career of Cressida Dick if you think this is just about that single incident.
ChazzaGirl · 10/02/2022 22:30

Glad she’s gone, she was an abomination. I don’t care what someone’s gender is, if they’re incompetent, they’re incompetent. I suspect her links to Johnson kept her in the job so long.

Good fucking riddance.

FennecShandDoesEverything · 10/02/2022 22:33

I thought this was going to be about becoming habituated to unwanted dick pics.

I'm ambivalent. The failures under her leadership have been terrible. But it meant something to me to have the most senior and prominent police officer in the land, the leader of the country's largest force, be a gay woman. She had to go, but I don't have to feel unalloyed joy about it.

DorothyZbornakIsAQueen · 10/02/2022 22:36

Dick resignation Grin is that what men get after 1 too many beers?

Seriously though, about fucking time. She has turned a blind eye to the vile, disgusting policemen under her watch.

FloBot7 · 10/02/2022 22:37

She may have been female and a lesbian but she did sweet eff all to support the rights of women. She's as misogynistic as the rest of them and I wouldn't be surprised if she was one of those women who got to the top by tearing the rest of them down. It was bad enough to see her trot out with "sorry, lessons will be learned" then fall into the next scandal without actually learning anything but she didn't even bother to acknowledge the case of the university lecturer who was strip searched and humiliated by several police officers still in the force. I don't care if the next one is a white middle aged male, I just care that he actually does something to overhaul the bullying culture within the met.

DorothyZbornakIsAQueen · 10/02/2022 22:38

I don't feel joy. I feel sad that she didn't care about fucking women over, for the sake of the prestige of her role.

mashpot · 10/02/2022 22:40

Just had this convo with DH! I’m glad she’s gone but for gods sake when will some of the men (namely Boris) realise they HAVE TO GO TOO!

Blinky21 · 10/02/2022 22:51

No sympathy for her at all. She should never have been promoted in the first place after Jean Charles De Menezes was killed on her watch. Sadiq is a hero

tiktokontheclock · 11/02/2022 00:01

@HandyGirl76

Oh I'm not a fan, don't get me wrong, but Allegra S, Munira M, the other lady under Munira and now Dick. When are the men going to take some of the flak?! Instead they all get bloody promoted.
Munira resigned, she wasn't pushed, and she will probably come back and lead Sunak's team.

Cressida Dick was deserved - she should have left years ago.

Allegra - yes, she was a scapegoat - but awful at her job. I know people that know her, and remember she was meant to be press sec and couldn't handle it so they never put her on air. She was dead wood anyway.

I hate Boris, but Allegra is the only one who was blamed for anything not her fault here.

LakieLady · 11/02/2022 11:14

@cocktailclub

A woman has resigned because the behaviour of men in the police force is in question! That's what makes me cross.
It's because of her failure to address those behaviours, not the behaviours in themself.

She's also failed to do anything about the violence that has led to a huge rise in violent deaths among young people, been censured for her failures in the Daniel Morgan inquiry, allowed massively heavy-handed policing of the Sarah Everard vigil while allowing chaos to reign at a Wembley football match and led the operation that led to the death of the perfectly innocent Jean-Charles de Menezes.

I also wonder if there's more stuff to come out that would have made her position more untenable. It seemed like a bit of a sudden change of heart to me.

HeadPain · 11/02/2022 11:17

1.she should've never got the job.
2.she should've gone ages ago.
