Small double guest bedroom. Navy blue feature wall. White wooden furniture and white grain laminate floor.

AIBU to buy a bright yellow shag pile rug for this blue themed room? DH thinks it will look ridiculous. I think it will compliment.

YABU - DH is right, it will look fugly
YANBU - it will compliment the room

Pics of the bedding we have chosen and the potential rug. Walls are white btw but will be decorated with colourful art

DH is right, the fug will be strong with that rug.

I'd go for jute.

mumsiedarlingrevolta · 09/02/2022 19:44

The blue and white so pretty-

not a fan of the rug with it at all-too bright and too thick-

think it will detract from the blue and white which is such a clean, lovely colour way for your room

Lancrelady80 · 09/02/2022 19:45

Personally I don't like either yellow or shag pile HOWEVER SiL has decorated their house in navy with pops of yellow and it really zings. Looks great!

RoastedFerret · 09/02/2022 19:46

I dont mind bright colours but I'm not a fan of yellow with navy blue. If you are buying locally you could buy it and see how it looks, I presume you can return it then if you don't like it.

Unmute · 09/02/2022 19:50

Yellow and navy are great together, but polyester shag pile is hideous. I'd go for a flag weave rug

Unmute · 09/02/2022 19:51

Flat not flag

ShittyFingers · 09/02/2022 19:53

Ok, yellow is shite

What about this one?

I did this in my bedroom (walls painted pale yellow, blue curtains and blue bedding)

Reminded me of IKEA and it didn't stay long 😂

ShinyMe · 09/02/2022 19:56

That's a rug? That second one looks like an old door that's had ten layers of paint stripper thrown at it.

ShowOfHands · 09/02/2022 19:59

Navy with yellow/mustard accents is really popular right now. Usually described as "pops of colour" by people who can bring themselves to utter such things.

ShittyFingers · 09/02/2022 20:00

Feel free to offer some suggestions guys! Links even better 😁 I need it done by weekend as it’s driving me mad

A mustard rug would work

maslinpan · 09/02/2022 20:03

A dark orange might be nicer, the bright yellow and navy combo has a bit of a primary school library vibe.

Catsnlamas · 09/02/2022 20:04

The made web site have good rugs

SpiceRat · 09/02/2022 20:07

We have navy / white / mustard living room. The colours work well but that rug isn’t right. Nor is the 2nd. If you’re wanting a bright pop of colour a green could work like this.

I think the combo of two strong colours is quite a dated look now. Like out of a Next catalogue but not in a good way. I agree with the pp who has suggested Jute. Each room should be based on neutrals with just one strong colour and then if other colours are included they should be variant of that strong colour. So navy blue with a paler blue but then neutrals for everything else like white, grey and jute/rattan etc. Give variety of texture. It looks more scandi and modern I think whereas the whole “feature wall with accent colours” looks quite 90s IMO.

Workin8til6 · 09/02/2022 20:13

I think this is what you want to avoid

I'd stick with a rug like the one in the pic of the bedding if you're having colourful wall art, or I'd match it to the navy as the bedding is quite light.

Arbeity · 09/02/2022 20:19

Yellow is great, but I think was so popular a few years ago that it might age. O think burnt orange would look fantastic and give the same effect

ItsDinah · 09/02/2022 20:26

I like yellow but don't think it would work well in the room you describe. White and navy are enough.

StScholastica · 09/02/2022 20:31

I'd go for baby pink.

bridgetreilly · 09/02/2022 20:33

Sounds fabulous to me.

Turtlerunner · 10/02/2022 00:53

Lime green pops haha vase/pics/a throw but neutral rug

Cleanbedlinen12 · 10/02/2022 03:51

I think the yellow rug is too much of a lump against the bed. The bed is very strong, and a focal point so maybe a few small yellow cushions on it and a much more muted rug? Jute as pps say is nice and neutral to let the bed pop😂 or maybe a less in your face blue rug?

Monty27 · 10/02/2022 04:04

OP do you have a pic of the actual room? Isn't that pic from online?
Anyway the second rug is worse than the first.
And I'm not sure what you mean by "colourful art"
