Small double guest bedroom. Navy blue feature wall. White wooden furniture and white grain laminate floor.

AIBU to buy a bright yellow shag pile rug for this blue themed room? DH thinks it will look ridiculous. I think it will compliment.

YABU - DH is right, it will look fugly
YANBU - it will compliment the room

Pics of the bedding we have chosen and the potential rug. Walls are white btw but will be decorated with colourful art

The yellow rug is too much against the blue, I think. I remember reading about the 60-30-10 rule that says a room should be 60% A basic colour (probably the white), 30%of a secondary colour (say the blue bed coverings etc), and 10% accent colour- in your case the yellow. The accent colour works best in small amounts - a vase here or a bit in a rug, or artworks etc. it must be fun to decorate a guest room from scratch though! Mine is just mismatched odd stuff I should this out.

We have similar in our office. It's nice but not conducive to sleep!
Mustard won't be restful.

I agree with a jute type rug.

What is the floor like in the room as that's a factor ?

Fairylightsongs · 10/02/2022 06:50

I’d also go for a green, likely olive. And not so shaggy as the first one.

Avarua · 10/02/2022 06:58

Jute for texture

Jute with a yellow trim.

Thanks everyone, I’ll take a pic of the actual room this afternoon as I could also do with some advice regarding blank spaces 😂

Someone asked what kind of art I’m putting up … I’m making my own. I’m no Picasso but quite looking forward to having a room I can use my own art in. I’m working on this at the minute, just a fun picture of my dogs

I love mustard and navy together and I like pps suggestions about burnt orange, but also dusky pink and navy (see photo).

I would go for hot pink over yellow.

I like the yellow. I don’t understand fashion in room design - are we supposed to change all fixtures every 2 years?!

The second rug is awful.

buddylicious · 10/02/2022 21:51

I think the yellow would look nice if you added a couple of splashes of yellow elsewhere too (ie cushions)!

pussycatunpickingcrossesagain · 10/02/2022 21:52

@Classica

DH is right, the fug will be strong with that rug.

I'd go for jute.

Yep. I can sense the strong fug from here.

yellow, bleugh
