I am no cook. However, I do make a wonderful halloumi Mediterranean veg dish.
For the first time since t divorce years ago… I have a man coming over for dinner. A man I really like! I would love to indulge him with a delicious dinner but I have no idea what to serve y halloumi dish with as usually I have on its own but this meal definitely calls for something extra. Please help!! I can’t cook steak but chicken or salmon or perhaps evenshop bought sausages?! Eek. Thoughts please!

I think fancy sausage might be nice with Halloumi actually

Xiaoxiong · 08/02/2022 13:25

If you can get lamb merguez sausages (like these that would be perfect on the side!

sadpapercourtesan · 08/02/2022 13:26

I'd do a lemon and herb roast chicken with the halloumi dish. And some lovely garlic flatbreads.

They sound delicious

My dad was from Cyprus and I was brought up on Halloumi
I would serve it with greek spicy sausage called Loukaniko which you can find in uk if you have turkish supermarket nearby.
I would serve it as a started with tomato , cucumber and olives or even water melon (amazing together but better in hot weather)

Xiaoxiong · 08/02/2022 13:33

@AryaStarkWolf they are dangerously delicious!! We usually have them alongside couscous and ratatouille.

@bruffin loukaniko would be perfect alongside too!

Second sausages. The Turkish variety is called Sudjuk, I think.
But, if the man is coming not only for the dinner, be mindful all these Mediterranean sausages are really garlicky.

This is so so helpful thank you. Sausages it is!

Chorizo or the greek sausage if you can get hold of it.

headintheproverbial · 08/02/2022 13:35

Could you share the recipe for the Halloumi OP?

Toanewstart23 · 08/02/2022 13:37

Prob is that none of the supermarkets stock those sausages!

You could do lemon and oregano marinated chicken kebabs?

Toanewstart23 · 08/02/2022 13:42

No kebabs

Talipesmum · 08/02/2022 13:43

Ah sorry, no kebabs!

Talipesmum · 08/02/2022 13:44

You could marinade the chicken in a similar way then just fry the chunks around in a pan?

murasaki · 08/02/2022 13:45

Halloumi and chorizo go well together

AffIt · 08/02/2022 13:46

I'm curious - why no kebabs?

MaizeAmaze · 08/02/2022 13:51

I'd like some flatbread with that, I think.
Isn't the hallumi the protein aready? So, I'd add carbs. But then i feel I'm in the minority thinking bread/pasta/rice/potato is a proportion of most meals!

Hobbesmanc · 08/02/2022 13:54

I love Halloumi but I dont think it needs a protein on the side. With salad and maybe greek pittas, its lovely meal in its own right. You could get some houmus, yogurt tzatziki, maybe some of those yummy spinach parcels and serve them together as a mexe

changenametimeagain · 08/02/2022 13:57

@Toanewstart23 care to share the dish you usually make? I want to try it out tonight!

I love it in its own and with girlfriends it’s perfect

but I want to elevate it so will go with possibly the sausages if not too garlicky

Love the flatbread suggestion

No kebab as well just don’t want to !
