I am no cook. However, I do make a wonderful halloumi Mediterranean veg dish.
For the first time since t divorce years ago… I have a man coming over for dinner. A man I really like! I would love to indulge him with a delicious dinner but I have no idea what to serve y halloumi dish with as usually I have on its own but this meal definitely calls for something extra. Please help!! I can’t cook steak but chicken or salmon or perhaps evenshop bought sausages?! Eek. Thoughts please!

If sex is on the menu suggest lighter food - halloumi plus meat, fish, carbs etc = bloating and digestive discomfort for some people!

If you can't get the greek/Turkish style sausages I wouldn't serve regular ones. Lemon and herb chicken is an excellent suggestion. Maybe a bit of couscous.

This Nigella recipe is super easy, with a leafy salad and crusty bread

Waitrose sell a spicy Toulouse style sausage and also chorizo flavoured sausage.

@floofycroissant

Thanks but my friend had some interaction with her re work and said she honesty is a deeply unpleasant woman and told me stories that made me squirm - so On principle I won’t even open the link! But thanks anyway

Why on earth are you ruling out kebabs? That was a perfectly good suggestion.

There is nothing wrong with garlic as long as you're both eating it! (Assuming he's the one you would be kissing...)

Anonymous48 · 08/02/2022 15:46

@Toanewstart23 don't tell me to calm down! I'm perfectly calm and I asked a perfectly reasonable question for which you appear not to have an answer.

Toanewstart23 · 08/02/2022 15:57

Sounds it Grin

I guess if it’s at my place… I can always brush my teeth afterwards!

@bruffin

My dad was from Cyprus and I was brought up on Halloumi I would serve it with greek spicy sausage called Loukaniko which you can find in uk if you have turkish supermarket nearby. I would serve it as a started with tomato , cucumber and olives or even water melon (amazing together but better in hot weather)
I have a supermarket near me, do you just grill this sausage?

Also, what is the wonderful dressing they put on their salads?

TIA.

FusionChefGeoff · 08/02/2022 17:45

Lamb leg steaks?? Not as scary to cook as actual steak

bruffin · 08/02/2022 17:46

I grill it
I don't bother with salad dressing most of the time or just olive oil and lemon juice and some coriander

Gizacluethen · 08/02/2022 18:16

So long as both people eat the garlic you'll be fine :) I think lemon and herb chicken would be best

Ikeptgoing · 08/02/2022 18:41

Tbh salmon or chicken with herb and lemon dressing would go great with this. With baguette slices or flat bread in the side. Foil wrap chicken or salmon once you've put herb etc marinade on and cook in oven- Hallumi Med vegs is a very strong tasting vegetable dish

Btw Saved your recipe! Grin

GreekGod · 08/02/2022 18:47

Herb chicken definitely (not salmon)

but put the halloumi in hot pitta bread and use as a side

Olive oil is always put on Greek salads

Ah, shame you don’t like Nigella. I have nothing to add on the cooking front but was going to suggest you serve up wearing black rubber gloves a la Lawson for added allure Grin
