To be annoyed that Green travel is so VERY expensive?

Trying to avoid flying to Spain but the price of a car ferry is FOUR times the cost of return flights for two - plus the cost of petrol each way. It's just not economic if you want to visit more than one place. Grr.

The cost of a rail card is about three times the cost of flights btw

I don't like camping. DH is 76 fgs, he's not sleeping on the ground. I want art and architecture and to go bloody abroad thank you.

It's crap isn't it. My 22yr old wants to travel this year - so much cheaper ti get flights round Europe than train. Ridiculous

Then don't go to Spain...?

Get the train to anywhere you can afford
Go to the Netherlands, it's lovely there

I drove via the ferry to Santander, it was cheaper than 4 flights in August, despite having and outside cabin for 4 and the petrol. Flights are not always cheap

So apparently the consensus is, don't go anywhere you actually want to go. Yeah, spent the 90s going on cheap breaks because that's all we could afford, thanks. We're hardly talking Barbados.

The seniors rail card which according to website is only valid for 7 days per month unless you pay more. We can go out of season and prefer to as not so hot. If you know a cheaper option happy to hear of it!

We're booked for Yorkshire in the summer. £300 return train tickets for 2 of us from Scotland. So yes, I agree. Flights and a hotel abroad would work out so much cheaper.

That's in the UK. We have senior Railcards already, they don't work in Europe.

Just go by plane. The plane is going any way even if you aren't on it. Someone else will just take the seats. Might as well be you.

Leaving aside the cost issue none of the methods of transportation your talking about are exactly environmentally friendly.

Same in the Uk. Far cheaper to fly to Scotland than train (& probably drive) from the south of England. Madness.
