As part of my Christmas DH got me really nice boot slippers. I threw out my old ones and have worn them every day since I got them.

After a couple of weeks DH remarked on how I had bent the backs of them and that I should be careful how I'm walking. I've been really conscious of it since. He's mentioned it a couple of times and 'joked' he isn't getting me anything nice again as I just 'ruin' things.

On Friday night he mentioned again how the slippers are now all bent out of shape. I apologised and said I don't know what I've done to them and I was quite upset as I know they were expensive. He then dismissively said 'maybe its the sizing'. I checked and they're two sizes too big. DH knows my shoe size and said he wanted to get them and they were all they had in stock so he figured it would be fine as they were boot style and they wouldn't just fall off.

AIBU that he's made out I've had the problem for over a month?

I'd be more annoyed by the fact that he's monitoring your slipper usage and saying he won't buy you anything nice again. You don't keep tabs on a gift once it is given. He must be very rigid in his thinking if he couldn't change his plan to buy them when they didn't have your size - surely he could have found something similar in the correct size.

As for the slippers you can get fluffy innersoles that might help them fit a bit better (he can pay for those).

Arabellla · 06/02/2022 14:33

He sounds like a dickhead. Tell him to order the correct size now.

HollowTalk · 06/02/2022 14:33

God, it must be like living with a dementor! Who made him the slipper prefect, ffs?

Beautiful3 · 06/02/2022 14:34

He really shouldn't be saying anything! It's rude.

OrisOnson · 06/02/2022 14:34

Blimey, who made him the slipper police, slippers are for wearing, tell him to feck off

OooohBabyBaby · 06/02/2022 14:38

He sounds like a dick. Give him the slippers back and tell him to piss off

WhatTheWhoTheWhatThe · 06/02/2022 14:40

How did you not notice they were too big? Also tell him to knob off he sounds like a dickhead knowingly buying you something the wrong size then criticising you when they bent out of shape all the whole know exactly what the problem was.

Does he pull this shit with other things because he doesn’t sound that nice tbh

Aquamarine1029 · 06/02/2022 14:41

FGS, he is your dad? I'd give him back the stupid slippers and tell him to not do me any more favours.

Chocomelon · 06/02/2022 14:43

He sounds a bit nasty to keep saying that to you but it's also weird be bought slippers two sizes too big for you and it's even more odd you didn't notice.

Aquamarine1029 · 06/02/2022 14:44

It is really weird that you didn't notice the slippers are 2 sizes too big.

Onthedunes · 06/02/2022 14:45

Bin the slippers.

Then bin him.

stuntbubbles · 06/02/2022 14:46

Eurgh, he’s not joking though, is he? What a turd.

GoodbyeKat · 06/02/2022 14:47

If it’s normal wear and tear there’s no issue maybe he got you cheap ones and telling you they’re expensive and is now pissed that they are lent as sturdy as he thought they would be

MerryMarigold · 06/02/2022 14:47

@Aquamarine1029

I don't think so. Those fluffy ones can be quite 'full'.

I'd be way more annoyed about how he's been going on about you 'ruining' the slippers, regardless of size! It wouldn't suddenly be ok even if they had been the correct size all along.

Itsalmostanaccessory · 06/02/2022 14:48

If they're the style of boot slippers white ate just soft and floppy then they always go a bit bent. I have a slight instep so mine go quite bad but even you wall perfectly, boot slippers have no structure and they get bent.

If he bought them 2 sizes 2 big then theyll be even worse.

Luredbyapomegranate · 06/02/2022 14:50

Is he normally like this??

Because if he is you have a bigger problem,

BringBackCoffeeCreams · 06/02/2022 15:08

Does he not realise that footwear doesn't stay in perfect condition if you wear them? What does he want you to do, keep them in a glass cabinet to admire his generousity? What a tool!

Yes, they're the style I'd usually have and they do tend to go a bit bent. DH was kind of mocking that I'd 'ruined' these ones quicker than usual.

They're quite fluffy so I didn't notice they were bigger.
Are they like this OP? www.debenhams.com/product/Debenhams-Debenhams-Microsuede-Short-Slipper-Boot_DDD02357
No, they're slightly higher than that. Like ankle boots but fluffy. Think mid-size uggs.

They're branded so I know they're not cheap crap (unless he's been buying fakes on ebay) and I know which shop he got them in. He'd planned to get them and didn't think to try online or elsewhere rather than the wrong size.

Your husband sounds like a dick. Maybe you could jokingly call him a shit gift giver for a month see how he likes it

TillyTopper · 06/02/2022 15:20

Your "D"H monitors your usage of your slippers? That he got 2 sizes 2 big? He sounds like a prize arse. Is the slipper thing a one off or is he normally running you down about stuff? If it's a one off then I'd wonder why, if it's regular then I'd be pissed off and considering what I wanted to do.

ParkheadParadise · 06/02/2022 15:27

He sounds like a prick.

DH bought me ugg slippers for Christmas. He's never mentioned them since.
Dd(6) has them on just now trying to keep them on her feet.

I like this idea. He sounds like he needs taking down a peg or two.
ChiefWiggumsBoy · 06/02/2022 15:42

They're slippers Confused.

This strikes me as the tip of the iceberg as to what is going wrong in your relationship if this is something he feels the need to comment on and something that has upset you and made you feel self-conscious.

I honestly can't imagine either me or DH making a comment like he has and not meaning it in a "dammit I guess they're just not as good quality as I thought" or "I knew they weren't the right size but they didn't have yours and I really knew you'd like them. Hope they're still comfy?"
