Washing ?stolen by neighbour

Blanket on washing line blew off in the wind, landed on nextdoors shed roof, they know it's from my washing line as it distinctive and have seen it before as I wash it weekly. We do not speak to these neighbours for various reasons. Anyway, blanket was on the shed roof yest am, saw the neighbour pull it down, put it in a box. At about 5pm saw him loading his van with junk from his garden, and then he put the box in the van, presumably going to the tip. Is this theft? Am I being unreasonable to report to police. It prob won't go anywhere as I never filmed him, and this person will just say I'm harassing him. Tbh if I breath I'm harassing him. Next time his kids balls come over shall I just take them to the dump? Not overly annoyed about the blanket to be honest, but what an imbecile!

Should’ve asked for it when you saw him put it in the box.

Then again when you saw him load it into the van.

If a blanket blew into my garden I’d probably throw it away, unless I knew who it belonged to.

Cherrysoup · 04/02/2022 11:04

Theft by finding. As he knows it’s yours, he has deliberately deprived you of it with no intention to return, so technically theft, yes. Why on earth didn’t you just knock on the window and say “Can I have my blanket back, please, just saw you take it off the shed?”

ChittyBangs · 04/02/2022 11:06

Why did you just watch him box it and take it away 🤣😫

ZoeTheThornyDevil · 04/02/2022 11:07

Well, since apparently both of you are under a deadly curse preventing the exchange of words, what else could he have done? He found some shit in his garden, he chucked it away. Write it off and say something next time.

TheLightSideOfTheMoon · 04/02/2022 11:08

How would he know it’s the OP’s?

I don’t look at my neighbours washing when they hang it out. I have no idea what their stuff looks like.

To him it’s just a blanket.

user1493494961 · 04/02/2022 11:08

Put the balls in the bin.

CaptainCabinets · 04/02/2022 11:09

YABU for standing and watching all these things happen and doing nothing about it Confused

Lemonlady22 · 04/02/2022 11:09

Keeps the balls by pretending I don't know who the belong too then?

Lemonlady22 · 04/02/2022 11:13

Haha, he's an odd one...as I said not really fussed about the blanket after it was laying on his bitumen roof. I just thought he would throw it back. It couldn't be anyone else's either due to proximity. Maybe I will buy some better pegs Grin

Just start putting all your unwanted crap on his shed roof.
It’ll save you many journeys to the tip.

deeplyrooted · 04/02/2022 11:33

Look for “storm pegs” and pay the difference. Cheap pegs are a false economy. Sorry about your blanket.

WalkingDownTheOnlyRoad · 04/02/2022 11:34

😂
IncompleteSenten · 04/02/2022 11:34

You just watched him?
Why didn't you say oh that's my blanket, so sorry. It flew off the line

Hahahaha I found this very funny :)
GreenSeaGlass · 04/02/2022 12:11

So what happened when you asked him for the blanket?

RocketPanda · 04/02/2022 12:12

Thank god my neighbours are of the bovine variety ( although not at the moment, I'm surrounded by empty fields).
OP why on earth would you think your neighbours know what washing you put on your line? Did you not think of saying it?

AllOfUsAreDead · 04/02/2022 12:15

@ChittyBangs

Why did you just watch him box it and take it away 🤣😫
This. You stood there and watched it all happen and are complaining about it? You say you don't care so why make the post?

Throw the kids balls away if you want, although they aren't the ones being petty. You and the other adult are. Maybe start acting like adults.

mugoftea456 · 04/02/2022 12:18

Baffled as to why you didn't ask for it when you saw it being taken to the dump.

Or knocked and appogised for the inconvenience of the blanket being on his roof and offering to go up and get it.

Even more perplexed that you would consider this a police matter.

Gazelda · 04/02/2022 12:19

I sense that you and your neighbour have a 'tit for tat' history. Both game players.

Fleurty · 04/02/2022 12:22

I wouldn't recognise my neighbours washing regardless if it was distinctive or not. We get all sorts dragged into our garden by foxes and they've usually passed or shat on it so anything found in the garden goes immediately in the bin.

Why watch it happen then complain afterwards? Either you care about the blanket enough to say something while watching them take it off their roof, or you don't care, in which case don't post on mumsnet complaining about it.

lemongrasstea · 04/02/2022 12:29

You saw th blanket was there. You should have gone round at that point or put a note through the door if it was early. As you both have a hostile relationship, you'll just have to take it on the chin and you should have proactively retrieved your own belongings

Londongent · 04/02/2022 12:35

Wait, you saw the blanket on your neighbours shed roof, then you saw him take it down and put it in a box, then you saw him load it into his car. But you never asked him about it? Is that right?
Just not sure what you expected

Rosebuud · 04/02/2022 12:39

I also don’t understand why you watched and then did nothing. When you saw it on his roof why didn’t you go over there?

RincewindsHat · 04/02/2022 12:45

Why on earth didn't you pop round and ask for your blanket back? Neither of you are exactly behaving like sensible adults in this.

bcc89 · 04/02/2022 13:11

I wouldnt know my neighbours blanket, even if I'd seen it on her washing line 300 times. It wouldn't occur to me to remember it! I have other things going on. I'd throw away a blanket that ended up in my garden tbh.

Why didn't you ask for it back??

YABVU.
