Washing ?stolen by neighbour

Lemonlady22 · 04/02/2022 11:01

Blanket on washing line blew off in the wind, landed on nextdoors shed roof, they know it's from my washing line as it distinctive and have seen it before as I wash it weekly. We do not speak to these neighbours for various reasons. Anyway, blanket was on the shed roof yest am, saw the neighbour pull it down, put it in a box. At about 5pm saw him loading his van with junk from his garden, and then he put the box in the van, presumably going to the tip. Is this theft? Am I being unreasonable to report to police. It prob won't go anywhere as I never filmed him, and this person will just say I'm harassing him. Tbh if I breath I'm harassing him. Next time his kids balls come over shall I just take them to the dump? Not overly annoyed about the blanket to be honest, but what an imbecile!

Weirdly, I don't make a note of what's on my neighbour's washing line.

Satingreenshutters · 04/02/2022 13:19

So neighbour finds blanket on his shed roof. Neighbour KNOWS it is next door's blanket due to the eye shaped spyhole he has made in the fence to facilitate his neighbours washing line fetish that he has. Armed with this knowledge he peels said blanket off his shed roof, puts it in a box with his other crap and brings it to the dump while owner of blanket watches from window at her fave blanket being kidnapped by awful neighbours. Wonder if they should call police about the terrible theft they have stood by and let happen.

OR

Neighbour finds rainsoaked, manky blanket stuck to shed roof, has no idea what direction it has come from as he is not in the habit of stalking other people's washing line, decides it is making his garden unsightly so he pulls it down, dumps it in a box of rubbish to bring to the dump and is pleased that he got that job done.

Darkstar4855 · 04/02/2022 13:21

Well yes, YWBU to call the police when you haven’t even asked for it back and are just assuming it’s gone to the tip.

Lochroy · 04/02/2022 13:23

Do you not think the police might say "and what did ndn say when you asked him for the blanket back?".

How very odd.

Fallsballs · 04/02/2022 13:54

What’s the blanket like ?

Cissyandflora · 04/02/2022 13:56

You should have asked for it when you saw it on his roof.
Then again when he took it down and put it in a box.
Then again when he put the box in his van.
Then again when he drove off in the van.
But here we are. You’ll be buying a new blanket and some good clothes pegs.

Cissyandflora · 04/02/2022 13:59

This thread has actually made me laugh so thank you for this.
I particularly like the bit about the neighbour recognising the blanket because you wash it weekly Grin

MargaretThursday · 04/02/2022 14:21

On the basis dh doesn't manage to recognise his own clothing half the time from the washing pile, I think it's unlikely that your neighbour has been staring at your line long enough to recognise your washing.

halfsiesonapotnoodle · 04/02/2022 14:23

@Pembertonrd

Just start putting all your unwanted crap on his shed roof. It’ll save you many journeys to the tip.
🤣
Easterbunnyiswindowshopping · 04/02/2022 14:32

He is planning a murder and you will be named as an accomplice as the body will be wrapped in your blanket...
Grin
Have you seen him with a flask?

Jedsnewstar · 04/02/2022 15:01

Please tell us you watched him because you didn’t actually want it.
It seems so childish otherwise.

SartresSoul · 04/02/2022 15:04

I’m not sure why you witnessed it blowing off your line onto his roof and didn’t attempt to retrieve it, really weird.

AllyBama · 04/02/2022 15:20

You’re not at all fussed about the blanket but you’ll start a thread on MN musing about whether to call the police about someone taking said blanket to the tip that was actually on their property, that you knew was on their property and watched them take away? Yeah you don’t sound fussed at all.

TeaMeBasil · 04/02/2022 16:53

I think if you left it with him all day and didn't ask for it back, he's not stolen it so much as just got rid of some rubbish that blew into his garden? To him that's all it is.

Did you expect him to return it even though you weren't willing to go get it?

AwkwardPaws27 · 04/02/2022 16:58

they know it's from my washing line as it distinctive and have seen it before as I wash it weekly

You have a lot of faith in your neighbours observational skills. I've never mentally noted down an itinerary of my neighbours laundry Wink

SailingNotSurfing · 04/02/2022 17:57

This sounds like a very childish situation. It could have so easily be remedied by that old fashioned method of verbal communication.

However, you chose not to adopt such an archaic method of getting your blanket back, and expected your poor neighbour to correctly identify it as belonging to you, instead of vindictively taking it to the tip, making sure he saw you loading it into his van.

TheLightSideOfTheMoon · 04/02/2022 17:58

This post actually has stalker written all over it.

Why would somebody watch someone faff about with their shed roof, put things in boxes and drive to the tip?

How did you know they went to the tip? You were either listening or you followed them.

Also explains why he’ll say the OP is harassing him if she breathes in his direction (stalker minimising their behaviour).

And why were you hanging blankets outside given how windy it’s been?

There’s nowt as queer as folk.

That poor man.

ilovemybeachhut · 04/02/2022 18:03

Is this actually real? Unless a massive drip feed is coming up i.e extreme anxiety etc this is a totally bizarre event to post about.

Preeeettyprettygood · 04/02/2022 19:56

Your neighbour doesn't cause too much noise does he?

PigeonLittle · 04/02/2022 19:59

The confidence that your neighbour would know your blankets Confused

freecuthbert · 04/02/2022 21:40

Yes, please call the police and report this heinous crime immediately.

ZoeTheThornyDevil · 04/02/2022 21:47

Seriously, the idea that the neighbour would "know" it was your blanket, because they monitor what appears on your washing line... As kindly as possible, you really need to get out more.
