Found a cold sore cure

This has worked three times now - esp when I was run down in December. When you feel the tingle or itching, burn the fucker. Get a metal spoon in boiling water and press it against the area affected. Do that a few times.

It will not appear! I wanted to spread the joy!

My dad used to hold an ice cube on them

TulipsTwoLips · 03/02/2022 13:34

I once bit one out. I really wouldn't recommend it! Apart from all the crazy stupid infection possibilities, it was bloody painful!

SeasonFinale · 03/02/2022 13:35

Or use zovirax at first tingle.

FelicityJean · 03/02/2022 13:39

There's a small device for coldsores that does exactly this - heats the skin up just enough to kill the virus. Your spoon trick is much more cost effective though Grin.

I find lysine supplements help. I take them either when one has popped up already (and it seems to stop them spreading and they heal quicker) or at times I know I'm likely to get them, like when I have a cold.

GertrudeBElion · 03/02/2022 13:44

Me too!

(One for the science geeks)

Agrudge · 03/02/2022 13:45

Theres no cure for hepatitis

JasperHale · 03/02/2022 13:48

Vit C works wonders. Massive dose.

Star81 · 03/02/2022 13:49

This also works on mosquito bites ! Takes the itch straight out of them

jaggynettles1 · 03/02/2022 13:50

There's also a product called Urgo filmogel which was the only thing that worked for me (immune to zovirax!). You can get it online and its a liquid you put on with a tiny spatula and it nips like hell when you apply it but it stops them appearing- miracle cure!

BlueSoul · 03/02/2022 13:51

Virulite has worked really well for me. I used to get them all the time but I haven't had an outbreak in years since using the light.

toastfiend · 03/02/2022 13:52

@Agrudge

Theres no cure for hepatitis
Marvellous news that cold sores aren't caused by hepatitis then, isn't it... 🙄

You are correct that there's no cure for the herpes virus that causes cold sores, but if the OP has found something that prevents cold sores from rearing their ugly heads then I'm all for it. Thanks OP, definitely trying that next time I can feel one coming. Zovirax reduces the severity of the cold sore for me but in no way prevents them from happening so this could be a game changer!

PickAChew · 03/02/2022 13:55

Zovirax does nothing for me. Just makes them bigger and scabbier.

I've had the best results with L-lysine ointment. It's a bit like whack-a-mole, though, as the tingle disappears from one place and emerges somewhere else, before eventually breaking out inside my nose where I can't get at it!

Agrudge · 03/02/2022 13:58

Yep your right. My mistake I ment herpes

tiredofthisshit21 · 03/02/2022 13:58

I clicked on this with much excitement but that sounds painful! However I WILL be trying it the next time one of the little fuckers starts to tingle.

tulips27 · 03/02/2022 13:58

I have a light-emitting thingy from Boots that works, although only if I catch them at the right moment, if it's too far gone then the device won't stop them appearing.

deeplyrooted · 03/02/2022 13:58

Rubbing with vodka helps too.

Bringonthebloodydrama · 03/02/2022 14:01

Oh good I hope some of you benefit from this! @tiredofthisshit21 (ace name) it does burn a bit but it feels quite satisfying because you know you're winning. @toastfiend I hope it helps :)

Didn't mean to put this in AIBU. oops

tiredofthisshit21 · 03/02/2022 14:04

Haha love that OP! 'This hurts but I'm killing the fucker!!!"

AbaloneShell · 03/02/2022 14:08

A slice of fresh garlic is also a good tingle treatment, though as someone said already if the virus is activated it'll look for other places to migrate to instead so you need to be aware of any new itches/tingle/heat/sensation change somewhere else. Teatree essential oil is also good, but the fumes are pretty intense near nose & eyes.

Mary46 · 03/02/2022 14:09

Liquorice oil or gel is great too. Thanks tip op. God they so sore Im prone to them too

BobHadBitchTits · 03/02/2022 14:11

Herpotherm. Amazon.

Oneborneverydecade · 03/02/2022 14:13

My DH swears by bleach Confused

FrangipaniBlue · 03/02/2022 14:14

I get cold sores if I burn myself, you know like on pizza cheese or tea that's too hot?? It's like the shock to my skin triggers an outbreak!

Wondering if this trick would still work?

Agapornis · 03/02/2022 14:21

I've tried many things but not burning it! Current method: Open an ibuprofen capsule and put the powder on it, use Bonjela cold sore cream to make it stick.

Cherrysoup · 03/02/2022 14:27

The herpes virus lives at the top of a nerve, so you can’t bite them out (ouch!). The heated spoon trick sounds interesting, it definitely works on mozzie bites.
