Found a cold sore cure

This has worked three times now - esp when I was run down in December. When you feel the tingle or itching, burn the fucker. Get a metal spoon in boiling water and press it against the area affected. Do that a few times.

It will not appear! I wanted to spread the joy!

Dabbing some alcohol on them works every time for me. Rubbing alcohol, spirits or alcohol gel.

Nothingsfine · 03/02/2022 15:08

I find those little clear medicated patches work really well

MerryMarigold · 03/02/2022 15:13

Marvellous news that cold sores aren't caused by hepatitis then, isn't it...

Oh you've ruined it for me. I got so interested by the PPs link with hepatitis as dh had hepatitis as a child and now has terrible cold sores! What a shame she actually meant herpes...

Lubeyboobyalt · 03/02/2022 15:17

I never get the tingle. Antiviral tablets have helped before but they are massive pills and make me feel weird and even then only shorten it from 14 days to 10 or so.

PickAndChooseMe · 03/02/2022 15:19

Zovirax ointment did nothing for me. Aciclovir tablets from the Superdrug online doctor is the only that has worked. I took a course of 15 tablets about 3 years ago when I had a cold sore and I haven’t had one since. I used to get them twice a year.

GertrudePerkinsPaperyThing · 03/02/2022 15:27

I usually use Zovirax at the first tingle too - it seems to work for badly chapped lips too for some reason

I’ll definitely try this as I like the idea of burning them!

BigbreastsBiggerbeard · 03/02/2022 15:30

Another one here that takes lysine supplements. I take them daily as otherwise, i get a cold sore a week. They really work. If I take them I simply don't get cold sores. At all. And I have zovirax on prescription! Well, the generic version.

Ledwood85 · 03/02/2022 15:37

Acetone (nail varnish remover) on a cotton bud pressed against it every couple of hours.

Lottie2shoes · 03/02/2022 15:39

The alcohol one. Everytime I get a tingle, I spray perfume on ( mouth closed of course!). It doesn't develop.
If it's a little past the tingling stage, then if I do get the sore, it clears up faster than usual.
One thing though, don't spray around the time eating as the smell/ taste lingers in your lips for a while.
Does sting a little for a few seconds though.

Ukholidaysaregreat · 03/02/2022 15:43

Ooo! Love the idea of burning them off! Great top tip OP! Xxx

VapeVamp12 · 03/02/2022 15:44

I have never heard of this but will try!

Zovirax does nothing for me. GP prescribed me Aciclovir tablets after a particularly bad outbreak and actually I didn't get any sores for a few years but I was on those tablets for ages.

I find now though any trauma to anywhere near my lips will trigger one. Even just slightly dry lips but then again I also find any lip balms cause outbreaks too :(

DoLovePersimmon · 03/02/2022 15:50

I second a high dose of Vit C.

That's really interesting - now you mention it I've definitely noticed a correlation between trying new lip balms and developing cold sores! I'd never really thought about it before, I suppose, just always thought it was coincidental but perhaps not if you experience it too. I wonder what it is in lip balms that trigger them?
Lessstressedhemum · 04/02/2022 10:31

Aloe Vera gel works really well. Its the only thing that gets rid of mine.

whoruntheworldgirls · 10/02/2022 22:15

Waaaah i forgot about this thread and now have cold sore Angry
Might still try the hot spoon.....

Chakraleaf · 10/02/2022 22:17

@FrangipaniBlue

I get cold sores if I burn myself, you know like on pizza cheese or tea that's too hot?? It's like the shock to my skin triggers an outbreak!

Wondering if this trick would still work?

Same!

U take acyclovir daily.

PinchOfVom · 10/02/2022 22:19

You need iodine, stick it on overnight

snowone · 10/02/2022 22:28

I never get a bloody tingle or a sign - they just appear! I wonder does it work once the first blister has raised its ugly head?? 🤔

FlamingoDust · 10/02/2022 22:51

I worked put a few years ago that mine were linked to lip balms, I was getting around 8 a year. I tried so many lipbalms due to dry lips then discovered Nuxe reve de miel lip balm and since then I have had about 4 coldsores in about 6 years and those have been when I have been very run down.

thickthighs73 · 10/02/2022 22:57

@Agrudge

Yep your right. My mistake I ment herpes
Jesus how the hell did you get the two mixed up?!?!?
Acornacorn · 10/02/2022 23:29

I find slathering my skin in a thick layer of sun cream at the sign of a tingle can stop it developing.
Or nail varnish on the blisters to keep it small and to clear it up quickly

pawpaws2022 · 10/02/2022 23:36

My dad said he uses surgical spirit Blush

NYnewstart · 11/02/2022 00:07

Toothpaste can also work or reduce the severity.

Pixiedust1234 · 11/02/2022 01:05

Always used boyfriend's aftershave at the first hint of a tingle, dabbed on several times a day. Not had any in over twenty years now. It did sting like crazy so maybe I went the chemical burn route instead of heat burn Confused
