What time does your 8-9 year old go sleep and wake up?

Mine goes around 9 sometimes 9.30 will not sleep before no matter what, occasionally but it’s rare and awake anytime between 7-7.45. Someone said it’s too late but honestly she isn’t tired or anything. Weekends may go to bed at 10 no later and up at 8-9 but it’s n a massive change of routine

Bed at 8.30, up at 6 ( their choice). Age 9. So same total sleep as your child

RussianSpy101 · 03/02/2022 07:10

Bed at 8.30, up at 6.30 during the week.

Later for both on weekends.

Xiaoxiong · 03/02/2022 07:10

Bed at 8, lights out 8.30 but sometime slips to 8.45 if we are reading a book and they want another chapter. Sometimes bed 7.30 if they are particularly tired.

Wake up 6.45am but sometimes I have to wake them - in that case they go to bed earlier for the next night or two.

Sometimes they wake up MUCH earlier than me and I don't realise because they play Lego or read and don't wake us!

Notdoingthis · 03/02/2022 07:13

9-7.30

lookforthesun · 03/02/2022 07:14

8:30 pm - 6am (they wake naturally)

MinnieJackson · 03/02/2022 07:16

Bed at 8 for my nearly 8 year old, awake by 7.30.
My 9 year old takes melatonin so it's difficult to say. He takes his melatonin at 8.30 and still sometimes ends up reading nearly a whole book a night. Up at a similar time, sometimes earlier.

ChittyChittyBoomBoom · 03/02/2022 07:17

We aim for lights out at 8:30 and I wake them at 7:15. At weekends, they have no set time, it defends on what we’re doing and how tired they are but it’s usually 9:30-10pm.

Mines the same. I used to be stricter on bedtime with my older kids though. My child doesn't seem tired either. They're all different. My second child always needed lots of sleep. I wouldn't worry if it works for you!
Whoopsies · 03/02/2022 07:18

Very similar for my 8 year old here, in bed reading for 8:30, lights out about 9. He wakes up about 7/7:30. He also never seems tired and is doing well at school etc. He has never needed much sleep, dropped naps by 2 etc, whereas his younger brother needs a solid 13 hours at night!!

MrsMonkeyBear · 03/02/2022 07:19

My almost 8 year old goes to bed at 7.30pm, reads for half an hour and is asleep by 8.05pm. Wakes anywhere between 6 and 7.30am.

Weekends it's a little later but still up at the same time, sometimes earlier if both myself and DH are on early shifts and need to get dropped at PILs before our shifts.

Howeverdoyouneedme · 03/02/2022 07:20

9-7.30

HoliHormonalTigerlilly · 03/02/2022 07:21

8:30/9
Up 7 ish

aquamarine1 · 03/02/2022 07:24

9pm-8am. I was getting a bit worried recently that 9 was too late before my Kim pointed out they were still 11 hours sleep. Both children (younger one is 6) seem fine on this and rarely appear to be tired.

Morgan12 · 03/02/2022 07:25

Bed at 9.30. He takes ages to fall over. Usually asleep for 10/10.15. I wake him at 7.30.

MinnieMountain · 03/02/2022 07:27

8.15pm-6am.
We rarely let him go to bed later as he’s up at 6am regardless.

Boombastic22 · 03/02/2022 07:32

8.20-when he wakes up between 6.30 and 7.

Never sleeps in at weekend and we are strict re maintaining bedtimes. Up for sports at the weekend.

Bagelsandbrie · 03/02/2022 07:34

9.30ish, wakes around 6am on a school day. 8am ish on a weekend.

Almost 8yo goes to bed at 8, is allowed to read until 8:30. Sometimes she doesn't if she's too tired (one of us reads to her downstairs whilst the other puts the 3yo to bed, so she's already had a story), but that's up to her.

She usually wakes up between 7-7:30, but stays in her room until 7:30. Occasionally she'll wake earlier or later, but normally "on time". She reads whilst waiting to get up.

FlamingRoses · 03/02/2022 07:38

9pm on average. Up between 6:30 & 7:30.

We put them to bed earlier, by 8, then they read until ready to sleep.

Herja · 03/02/2022 07:41

8.45/9 to 5.50 will not aleep any more, no matter what. He slept until 7 the otherday and came down extremely excited about his first lie in.

GertrudePerkinsPaperyThing · 03/02/2022 07:43

I struggle massively with my 8 yo too!

Bed at 9/9.30, wakes up at about 7.30/8 in the week, and can be later on weekends.

I’ve always thought of him as a night owl but it could be more an adhd transition thing.

Suretobe · 03/02/2022 07:43

Almost nine year old. We recently moved bedtime 30 mins earlier as she was exhausted (lots of sport activities going on). So now bed at 8, with lights out by 8:30. Up around 7:15.
We don’t move it too much at the weekend as she’s so much happier with consistent sleep.

MojoJojo71 · 03/02/2022 07:45

I try to get 9yo DD to bed by 8.30 but she likes to read her kindle in bed so probably about 9.30 by the time she falls asleep. Up on school days at 6.45, weekends probably about 7.30-8

Jellycatspyjamas · 03/02/2022 07:46

For my 9 year old bed around 8.30 and usually asleep by 9, sometimes later if he can’t get to sleep he’ll listen to music for a while. Up at 7.30. Weekends are usually later so upstairs by 9.30. He’s a bit of a night owl so left to his own devices he’ll go to bed later and sleep later in the morning but still needs around 10 or 11 hours sleep.
