To ask if anyone else's leg hair has gone AWOL?

I am 46 in the summer. Still having regular periods but there are some peri symptoms.
I've noticed that the hair on my legs is a lot less dense than it was. Still there and still gets long if I don't shave, but the coverage is patchy. Barely any above the knee.

Is this just part of ageing? Are they just on their way up to my chin???

Or do I believe Google and panic about low iron/diabetes/hypothyroidism/ peripheral artery disease????

I had my ovaries removed and this happened to my leg hair. My armpit hair has gone altogether. Obviously due to total lack of hormones in my case - I would get it checked out.

AuntieMaggie · 31/01/2022 07:49

Yes! Since I had my last baby a couple of years ago I only seem to get hair on my lower shin/ just above ankle - tbh I was just pleased I could shave less! Now if my armpits and bikini line would follow suit...

GeneLovesJezebel · 31/01/2022 07:49

Me too, I’ve also got a bald patch in my hairy Mary 🤣🤣🤣

Luredbyapomegranate · 31/01/2022 07:49

It’s just peri I think

AuntieMaggie · 31/01/2022 07:50

"hairy Mary" 🤣

SisterAgatha · 31/01/2022 07:50

Mine have been like this since I was about 35 and I think it’s skinny jeans and leggings rubbing them off if I’m honest 🤣

Blanketpolicy · 31/01/2022 07:52

Same here, 53 and havent shaved my legs for a couple of years, I pluck the occasional hair out. Some have moved north and migrated to my chin/tache instead 🤦🏻‍♀️

RockAndHardPlace1 · 31/01/2022 07:54

Same here! In my 30s and I just have patchy leg hair now 😂

LakieLady · 31/01/2022 07:54

I didn't notice it on my legs, but my pubes definitely started to thin when I hit the menopause!

PastMyBestBeforeDate · 31/01/2022 07:59

My leg hair has completely gone. I've got a variety of crap health stuff going on plus probably meno at 52 so no idea what's caused it.

lemmity · 31/01/2022 08:00

41 and can't remember the last time I shaved my legs. Bit of fuzz but nothing like they used to be. Armpits and bikini area still going strong sadly.

aibusux2u · 31/01/2022 08:05

Did any of you get this checked out if it happened before menopause?

I don't want to worry you but it can also be a sign of poor circulation.

aibusux2u · 31/01/2022 08:14

@TheDoveFromAboveCooCoo
Wouldn't there be other symptoms in that case?

OP posts:
Passthecake30 · 31/01/2022 08:15

Mine has gone awol, along with my periods. I think my arm pit hair is slowing down too.

MrsWooster · 31/01/2022 08:16

Mine vanished in peri /after dd was born, apart from Hobbit-worthy hairy toes and knees. Like others, they migrated north to my chin, rather than simply vanishing.

Honestly I'm not sure. Worth checking out though as it can also be nutritional deficiencies like Vitamin D.

travailtotravel · 31/01/2022 08:18

Leg hair disappearing is one of the side effects of being T2 diabetic. It may naturally thin anyway but those experiencing this should maybe asked for their bloods to be checked to be sure.

A very high percentage of people who are T2 are not fat, so please dont think you can't have it cos you're not fat enough. Best to know and manage and if its nothing, just put ot down to age.

I.am on HRT now and after reversing T2, the leg hairs are growing back! Dammit.

CeratopsofthePharoahs · 31/01/2022 08:20

You mean there's an upside to peri?

Some of mine has gone. I put it down to regularly epilating for a few years. It only grows on the insides of my calves now. My arm pit hair is finer and slower growing too.

bestbefore · 31/01/2022 08:20

@aibusux2u are your eyebrows ok? Hairline ok?

HPLikecraft · 31/01/2022 08:20

Not much left on my legs, and armpits and pubes much sparser.

However, I now have a Saddam Hussein-like moustache, a few rogue chin hairs and the odd random long eyebrow hair!

I'm 52.

aibusux2u · 31/01/2022 08:22

@TheDoveFromAboveCooCoo
So is this something you have experienced or just something Google kicked up?
I saw that peripheral artery disease is a possible cause but it's a late symptom that comes alongside many others.
But if you have experienced differently then I am all ears.

Do you always shave or do you sometimes wax? I waxed most of my adult life and this reduced the hair growing back.

aibusux2u · 31/01/2022 08:23

@travailtotravel
I am assuming t2 would also give other symptoms?
Glad yours has reversed now and your leg hair are back! Grin

No - mine is linked to low vitamins and T2. I just remember it being at the top of the list of potential reasons when I was perplexed that it had been 2 months since I shaved my legs and I didn't resemble Mr Tumnus....
