To ask if anyone else's leg hair has gone AWOL?

I am 46 in the summer. Still having regular periods but there are some peri symptoms.
I've noticed that the hair on my legs is a lot less dense than it was. Still there and still gets long if I don't shave, but the coverage is patchy. Barely any above the knee.

Is this just part of ageing? Are they just on their way up to my chin???

Or do I believe Google and panic about low iron/diabetes/hypothyroidism/ peripheral artery disease????

I'm nearly 53 and have the same! Armpit hair and leg hair need shaving much less often and below my knees I think there are only a dozen hairs on each leg anyway!

I know I must be going through peri menopause and hoped it was one positive symptom rather than all the other more negative ones Grin.

bestbefore
No issues with hair elsewhere.

Have never waxed but always shaved. A lot of the follicles look a bit blocked like with keratosis pilaris.

I noticed this in my forties. I don't know if it's decades of having them waxed but they just aren'tas hairy as they used to be thankfully.

Hankunamatata · 31/01/2022 08:28

Its peri menopause. I was so happy my hair growth had slowed as I was always hairy. Started hrt and its grown back with a vengeance

DarlingDarwin · 31/01/2022 08:29

This happens to me when I’m pregnant. So definitely hormonal for me.

chesterelly1 · 31/01/2022 08:30

This happened to me, along with a bald spot in one of my eyebrows. Since starting HRT it is slowly coming back.

userxx · 31/01/2022 08:33

My arms used to be like velcro, they are baby smooth now. I miss my fur in a strange way.

Rubyupbeat · 31/01/2022 08:33

@travailtotravel
Sadly you cannot reverse t2, you can put it into remission though, but have to still be careful diet , weight and excercisewise.

HoppingPavlova · 31/01/2022 08:39

Yes, hair is weird. My head hair has thinned, no hair on thighs or knees. Thick hair (has always been like this but all over legs) from under knees to two thirds of way down lower legs, then bald. It’s like I’ve worn crew socks that have rubbed all the hair off, yet I don’t wear socks. Looks like i have a pair of really hairy leg warmers on Shock.

Unfortunately underarm hair and bikini area all going full guns, no sign of slowing down, thinning or dropping outAngry.

ItsRainingTacos · 31/01/2022 08:53

Oh my god, I thought it was just me! No one I know has heard of this before. 43 now but since 37 armpit hair all gone, pubes all gone bar a couple of strays and leg hairs barely there. Just hoping tasche will do one too. Love not having to shave or wax.

Hair on my head is turning wirey though and spring out in different directions.

ittakes2 · 31/01/2022 09:03

Me too.
Although it has now unfort as others have said started to appear on my chin...

Deadringer · 31/01/2022 09:40

I think it's normal tbh, i am in my 50s post menopause and i have noticed that my leg and underarm hair has become quite sparse. No facial hair to speak of yet and no reduction in the nethers though.

Beginit · 31/01/2022 10:17

I'm in perimenopause and on hrt. Leg hair has noticeably thinned. It has grown back a little with hrt but not significantly. Think the hair migrated to my chin. Envy

ArseInTheCoOpWindow · 31/01/2022 10:45

Pubes and armpit hair receding every day.

Legs look like a gorilla below the knee. Smooth as a baby’s bum above.

I’m 57

BrightYellowDaffodil · 31/01/2022 11:25

Mine is definitely more sparse after years and YEARS of waxing/epilating but if anyone is missing their leg hair you are more than welcome to mine. I swear I must have badger somewhere in my DNA.

minipie · 31/01/2022 11:27

I bloody wish! I’m the opposite - have been having laser and it’s all still growing despite that. (Albeit more fine/light). I have PCOS which may be why.

uncomfortablydumb53 · 31/01/2022 14:03

Yes! I'm 57 now and most body hair disappeared about 4 years ago

CaptainMyCaptain · 31/01/2022 14:10

I'm post menopause and don't have much body hair. I shave my legs and under arms occasionally and the regrowth is very slow. Pubic hair hasn't gone but was never very bushy anyway.

Craftycorvid · 31/01/2022 14:21

Yes, hardly ever need to shave my legs these days. The hairs on my forearms are a bit more sparse, too, not that they were ever super-abundant anyway. The hair on my head seemed to transform overnight from swishy and thick to breaking off and thin. Handfuls came out when I washed it. All down to menopause. My head hair has recovered a great deal but the texture is different from before and it’s not as heavy as when I was younger. Other body hair still doing its thing and I have to keep the moustache at bay.

CaptainMyCaptain · 31/01/2022 14:30

I'm lucky the hair on my head is still OK.

justasking111 · 31/01/2022 14:36

It happens to men too. Leg, body hair reduces with age

Hellopetty · 31/01/2022 14:42

@LakieLady

I didn't notice it on my legs, but my pubes definitely started to thin when I hit the menopause!
Wow really, mine has started coming in jet black.
aibusux2u · 31/01/2022 21:29

Thanks for the replies.
A lot of you talk about it happening after menopause but not as many before. Are you out there, fellow hairless peri people???
