We have had yet another power cut due to awful Winds

However I have had THE most wonderful evening listening to music on a battery powered radio and my 2 teenagers have been with us all evening in front out our fire and are (gulp) squeezing each other's spots...and writing letters on each others back to try and guess the word 🤣🤣🤣

I could melt with love

If you didn't have a fire for heat I'm not sure the fun would be so great.

Whitegrenache · 29/01/2022 21:53

Ha ha indeed! But totally loving it!

Yabu squeezing spots Envy queasy

I remember we had a power cut the very first time mum and dad went out for the evening and left me and my siblings in the house on our own. Usually we fought like cat and dog but mum and dad came home to find us happily playing monopoly by candlelight!

I associate a power cut with great sex but that was a really long time ago without teenagers around.

OakleyStreetisnotinChelsea · 29/01/2022 22:21

You are however on the Internet.

We had a power cut too, thankfully back on now but mobile signal where we are is patchy at best so getting online is difficult therefore ordering takeaway, seeing the updates on the powergrid website, reporting the power cut in the first place etc is difficult. Crazy how much we rely on Internet for basic things now. It really is assumed that you will still have the Internet without power.

My day was pretty shit, largely because I'm in a stressy crap mood anyway, dh went to play rugby and I spent the day with bickering kids.

The storm Arwen cut was horrible. Really stressful. The first night was a you describe, a bit of a novelty, all of us together in one room with the fire, candles and games. It was lovely. Then it got old really quickly. We were the lucky end of the village and it didn't last too much longer for us but half the village were off almost a week.

Aroundtheworldin80moves · 29/01/2022 22:23

Last long power cut we had i was very happy pizza hut was in the next generator section. We had no light, heating, cooking facilities etc. Without that we would have been digging out the camp stove. Which we have used for hot drinks before when electricity has been off.

Whitegrenache · 29/01/2022 22:24

Oh yes storm Arwen left us 5 days with no power so I decamped to my in laws so very aware tonight is a novelty 🤣

YABU for squeezing each others zits. That's foul. But yeah, a power cut is a very cosy experience, and lots of fun. Me and DH go for a walk around our little rural village with a torch and keep it switched off some of the time. It's sooooooooooooo creepy and cool! It's black! However, your eyes get accustomed to it, and you start to see a bit after a few minutes.

All that said, a power cut should be no more than 3 or 4 hours long, or it gets boring, it gets cold, and the stuff in the fridge and freezer starts to get warm/defrost.

I doubt the people with no power for 3-5 days agree with you @Whitegrenache

Well I have totally been there so utmost sympathy

Just trying to make good out of a bad situation

We get so tied up in technology and when that is taken away the children come back to you

I normally love a power cut too but I had a days long sinus infection and migraine during the storm Arwen one which lasted 3 days. The power went off again here this morning and I was really hoping to make up for it but the power was back on really Grinquick. I’m a teeny bit disappointed if I’m honest! Blush Grin

Whitegrenache · 29/01/2022 22:48

@FatFilledTrottyPuss bless you

Our next door neighbour's burglar alarm goes off every time there is a power cut. Drives me up the wall.

NiceTwin · 29/01/2022 23:05

Storm Arwen knocked us out for 5 days. No electricity means no water either for us as it is pumped up from the spring. We got the princely sum of £70 from the electricity board, we spent more than that in bloody takeaways Angry
I would be happy if we never had a power cut again.

DePfeffoff · 29/01/2022 23:33

I've always enjoyed power cuts provided they don't take too long. I love candles and snuggling up together in lots of layers to keep warm.

Crikey! I bet everything in your freezer was wrecked as well?
Burnt0utMum · 30/01/2022 07:33

I do love a power cut but I've only ever experienced them lasting for a few hours. Doubt I'd enjoy it if it lasted a few days like it has for others on here. Massive difference between a few hours without all the technology and having to go days without heating or a working fridge, no thanks. But glad you've managed to make the most out of it OP and get some quality family time. Those moments really matter.

BigYellowHat · 30/01/2022 07:35

Can I come and squeeze some spots please? 😂
