Best beach holidays Europe

Lots of threads the past few weeks/months on good locations/bad locations etc.

I want to book a 4/5 night break for 10th wedding anniversary. Needs to be Europe and short break. I want it to be luxury and beautiful but not so it would break the bank.

Hit me with your EU beach recommendations and also places to avoid.

Will be leaving kids at home. We like good food, nice views and a bit of snorkel!

I loved Croatia. Stayed just outside Dubrovnik.

The water is the perfect temperature and wonderful for snorkelling.

Food really similar to Italy IMO.

nearly4o · 29/01/2022 16:21

@jeaux90 In haven't been to Croatia. I will take a 👀

I really love the south west of France near Gruissan Plage, Beziers and Narbonne

uggmum · 29/01/2022 16:31

I love the South of France. It's a beautiful coastline.

Nice and Villefranche are lovely.

I have just booked a week in Croatia for September. I got a great deal with Jet2 holidays. £560 each b&b with flights, transfers. 4 star hotel.

I also looked at Sardinia and that is definitely on my list

Puzzledandpissedoff · 29/01/2022 16:37

Montpellier in the Languedoc - all the charm of the Riviera (but much better beaches), massive choice of things to see, fantastic restaurants and people and much less expensive than further east

But please don't tell anyone ... Wink

Batoutofhell70 · 29/01/2022 16:43

Portugal is lovely. Short flight too
After watching Bradley Walsh I want to go to Croatia too

nearly4o · 29/01/2022 16:54

@Puzzledandpissedoff we are going to that part of France this year with the kids. Looking forward to it!

We loved a place in Spain called Begur but the water was chilly.

NeverChange · 29/01/2022 17:07

Another vote for Croatia, great country or maybe Kotor Bay in Montenegro which is just fabulous.

You could combine both or do a day trip. It's less than 2 hours from Dubrovnik and 5 from Split I think.

Puzzledandpissedoff · 29/01/2022 17:26

@nearly4o you really have chosen one of the very best places to go; I absolutely adore the city, and for that matter the whole general region

Don't miss the Estivales on the Esplanade on Friday nights, and if you fancy day trips while there, must-sees are the Cirque de Navacelles, Conques and Saint-Guilhem-le-Désert

Best beaches: Carnon Plage if you haven't got a car (tram goes right there) or if you have, Petit Travers where you can practically have the place to yourself midweek

nearly4o · 29/01/2022 17:32

@Puzzledandpissedoff we are flying into Montpellier and staying in le serignan plage camp site

Argentario in southern tuscany

Puzzledandpissedoff · 29/01/2022 17:43

Sounds wonderful, nearly4o, though depending on age you might want to keep the DCs away from the nudist beach (right at the edge of the Reserve Orpeillieres next to you)!! Grin
Then again the French have a much more healthy attitude to nudism, so it's not as if you'll get creeps hanging around there ...

Also there's an Aldi and a Lidl in Serignan, which are useful for supplies and much cheaper than the local Carrefour

KaiKanWhenever · 29/01/2022 17:49

@ghostyslovesheets we holidayed in the South West of France for six years near Narbonne and Couliere. It's beautiful but the weather is SO unpredictable compared to the Cote D'Azur in the South East - you can see why it's so much more expensive there.

We spent a few years going there instead but then Googled the best snorkelling beaches in Europe and discovered the beautiful seaside villages near Begur in Catalonia, Spain, like Tamariu and Llafranc and the gorgeous beach Aguiblava. They're all around a 45 minute drive from Barcelona too.

Twilightstarbright · 29/01/2022 18:04

San Sebastián.

KatharinaRosalie · 29/01/2022 18:06

Corsica has the most beautiful beaches I've seen in Europe. Not cheap though.

Aigues Mortes is beautiful. Grand du Roi has a lovely beach.
3dogsnorth · 29/01/2022 18:29

Can recommend Caiscais in Portugal, close to Lisbon. Very nice, not commercialised at all

Bluemamma · 29/01/2022 18:41

Avoid Portugal and Spain (typical brits holiday places)
1.south of France - nice, Cannes, st tropez - my favourite place and you can go as luxurious as you like

  1. Lake como - Bellagio - amazing! Scratch above lol this is my favourite place I think :))
  2. Lake Garda - male sine or limone - amazing.
Both Italian lakes have luxury hotels and they are top notch.
  1. Amalfi coast (positano, ravello)
  2. Capri
All above places are breath taking and the most beautiful places in Europe
Bluemamma · 29/01/2022 18:42

Oh and San Sebastián in Spain - beach, most amazing food

Notimeforaname · 29/01/2022 18:42

Corfu.
Something for all budgets. Beautiful.

Littlecaf · 29/01/2022 18:45

Love Croatia. Have booked to go to Zadar this year. But it’s not that beachy. Their beaches tend to be shingle strips - or rocks. If you want wide stretches of perfect sand then I would look at Greece or Italy or Spain.

uggmum · 29/01/2022 21:16

@nearly4o They currently have £50 off per person at present.
This is where I have booked

Thanks for all the recommendations. I have looked at Sardinia which looks quite nice but will also look at Corsica as suggested below .

Does anyone have experience of Sardinia ?
