Running a red light at a crossing

Help me, I feel so ashamed, can you hand yourself in for running a red at a crossing? I've been so stupid and I just didn't realise, until I looked in my rear view mirror and saw people walking on the crossing, I couldn't see them to my left at first because there was a bus there, no one was hurt but I feel horrific, is there anything I can do for more information about what I did?

Shit happens .no one died . Get over it

Latte123 · 29/01/2022 12:39

Yes I have had anxiety for as long as I can remember and I'm such a worrier, I'll beat myself up over minor things, this is huge to me and so I'll really struggle to forgive myself, I know no one was injured but I can't help thinking 'what if' it's ridiculous I know but it's just how I'm wired I suppose, thank you I do really appreciate the help.

You may not of ran a red light. They change quickly and may have done so as you went through. So the people would be crossing as you looked back

MWNA · 29/01/2022 13:45

Wot?! This can't be for real.
Who gives a fuck?

lap90 · 29/01/2022 13:47

Were you the lady who did this in front of me yesterday? :-)

Joystir59 · 29/01/2022 13:47

@Latte123

I know it sounds dramatic, but I've more than likely traumatised someone and it's not fair is it
Was it a hit and run? If not just take it as a gift from the angels to make you more aware at lights. It's unlikely you will make this mistake again.
Tee20x · 29/01/2022 13:48

This is crazy - why would you need to apologise, if you actually had the opportunity to do that I promise you they would look at you strangely. No one starts crossing the road until they're sure cars have stopped?

Also you know there is a brief pause between lights turning red for cars and turning green for pedestrians?

This is a massive overreaction

Latte123 · 29/01/2022 13:57

No it wasn't, it was only when I looked behind that I saw anyone, no one was directly next to the car when I went past

OP posts:
cheekychaplin · 29/01/2022 13:59

People walking on a crossing after you have passed it your car is normal and doesn't necessarily mean the light is red, simply that the road is clear

Latte123 · 29/01/2022 14:00

No one was hurt so it is an overreaction I know, I can't help feeling so guilty about it though, I'll not do it again that's for sure it's such a stupid mistake

@Latte123

No not narrowly missed, but when I checked behind there were people there, and they'll have been angry, it could have gone very differently and i can't help thinking what could have happened, because of my stupidity.
Is it possible they crossed behind you on the red man because the road was clear, so you didn't run a red light at all?
JuergenSchwarzwald · 29/01/2022 14:02

Cross posted with Cheeky!

NewYearCalavicci · 29/01/2022 14:05

Are you sure it was red when you went through ? It could of changed from green to red as you passed.

You can't go back and fix the issues ( not that there is one imo) but how about booking yourself some refresher driving lessons or a advanced drivers course

jimmyhill · 29/01/2022 14:06

Hand yourself in OP. Special branch will be out looking for you now. If you plead guilty your sentence will be much shorter

Gizacluethen · 29/01/2022 14:07

In the nicest possible way, you need to let it go. You made a mistake. No one got hurt.
I nearly ran over a load of people when my brain got confused seeing the red light and thinking "doesn't that mean stop?" "yep it does pal, we should probably stop." Near miss. But nobody got hurt. It's a mistake. They won't be thinking about it any more do there's no point you beating yourself up about it.

Latte123 · 29/01/2022 14:07

There was a bus at the side of me which I thought was pulled at a bus stop, as I know there is a stop there, I carried on going stupidly and then looked behind and noticed the people

OP posts:
Wingedharpy · 29/01/2022 14:10

Were the people upright and mobile?
If so, they are fine.
You have traumatised someone.
You've traumatised yourself.

Sparklesocks · 29/01/2022 14:15

You’ll never find those people, nobody is gaining anything from you torturing yourself about it - neither yourself or the people crossing.

Latte123 · 29/01/2022 14:17

They were standing, I looked back and realised what I'd done as they were looking at me, I'm so thankful no one was hurt, I just can't help feeling so bad about it

OP posts:
Haudyourwheesht · 29/01/2022 14:19

This is why (as a pedestrian with a buggy) I don't trust drivers. I don't feel safe crossing the road, even at crossings, because so many drivers have absolute zero regard for pedestrians.

GaiusHelenMohiam · 29/01/2022 14:23

I’m confused why you’re assuming you ran a red just because people crossed behind you?

People do cross on a red light if the road is clear.

iklboo · 29/01/2022 14:28

Forgive yourself. Everyone else has forgotten about it by now, I reckon.

Latte123 · 29/01/2022 14:33

It was the way they were looking, obviously pissed off, I can't blame them one bit, but I knew what I'd done when I looked back.

OP posts:
Somanysocks · 29/01/2022 14:37

Think of it as a lesson well learned. You will be more careful in future won't you?

Latte123 · 29/01/2022 14:39

Yes, I'll definitely be very vigilant.
