My Mum is turning 70 in Feb and I wanted to take her to the Ritz for Afternoon Tea - but its booked up on the date we wanted to go on, please could anyone recommend the best venues for afternoon tea either in Central London or North London ..?

Thanks :)

Royal Albert Hall is lovely

Fortnum and Mason.

Afternoon tea at the Cafe Royal, in the Oscar Wilde lounge is really special. The Delaunay is also good.

We had a lovely afternoon tea at The Shard.

My oldest DD took me to the Dorchester for my 60th. She was going for the Ritz, but they didn't do afternoon tea on my actual birthday.

We really enjoyed the park lane Hilton in December. Food was absolutely fabulous and service flawless in an unobtrusive way

My dream destination for afternoon tea is Claridges, though I haven't ever been.

We did st pancras ticket office and then had champers at the champagne bar in the station. Was lovely and half the price few years ago though

Also claridges, fortnum and Mason and mist of the nuce hotels do good ones.

The Pan Pacific do fab afternoon teas! Perhaps the shard if you want a view?

Another vote for Park Lane Hilton Hotel. Their afternoon tea is superb. Better than the Ritz.

ThinWomansBrain · 28/01/2022 17:34

I'd second Fortnum and Mason - instead of sandwiches, you can opt for high tea, which has savoury options like lobster ommelette or proper welsh rarebit.

I love afternoon tea, but can bet a bit "breaded out" with sandwiches, scones, and cake.

The Landmark hotel afternoon tea in Marylebone is incredible! I’ve been twice (although quite a few years ago!) and I would love to go again.

ThinWomansBrain · 28/01/2022 17:40

oh and it was a while ago, so maybe look on tripadvisor for more recent reviews, but I once had a fabulous afternoon tea in the old county hall building. Excellent thames views.

Sketch is an incredible experience. Even the loos are mind blowing.

LaPufalina · 28/01/2022 17:42

The Wolesley was so good that my mum cried Grin

UnaOfStormhold · 28/01/2022 17:43

Libertys is nice.

LuckyDC · 28/01/2022 17:45

The Dorchester and Claridges do an incredible afternoon tea ( nicer than the Ritz in my opinion). Fortnum & Mason and Harrods (in the Tea Room) do an amazing traditional afternoon tea too if you want to combine it with some shopping.

onemouseplace · 28/01/2022 17:46

Claridges definitely.

Chemenger · 28/01/2022 17:47

The Dorchester pianist will play happy birthday as they bring out a cake with a candle if you let them know it’s her birthday. It’s a very nice afternoon tea.

FangsForTheMemory · 28/01/2022 17:49

Claridges, the Dorchester and the Wolseley (on Piccadilly) are all very good. I went to the Cafe Royal and was not impressed. Avoid anywhere that advertises deals - the best places get so booked up they don't ever have to offer deals.

MinorWomensWhiplash1 · 28/01/2022 17:50

Definitely Claridge’s but you need to book well in advance usually.

doadeer · 28/01/2022 17:51

I just went to Brown's - it's my second time there it's gorgeous. Impecible service and quality.

Phos · 28/01/2022 17:53

We really enjoyed The Kensington. Classy without being a tourist trap.

Cuddlywaterfall · 28/01/2022 17:55

How about the Wallace Collection?1 it's a beautiful museum to look around, and the restaurant is in a fabulous glass covered courtyard. The cakes are ace as well. It's kind of behind selfridges on Manchester Square

Belledan1 · 28/01/2022 17:56

My friend went on a tour bus that went round london and had afternoon tea.
