How did this man only get 7 years for kidnapping his ex-girlfriend who will never recover from her injuries?

She’d left him as he was controlling her so he kidnapped her off the street and she fell out of the van.

Surely kidnap alone is a life sentence?

The eloquence of the amazing Mina Smallman has helped to raise awareness of different standards in reporting violence against women. Both women were victims of male violence. I'm in London and there has been a lot of coverage about Yasmin on the local news. I hope that her family have not been subjected to additional distress by a lack of concern about what happened to her from the public. What is shocking is that she had taken out an injunction against her ex husband and the family feel she did not get enough support from the police.

If she dies of any point due to her injuries there will be a retrial for murder. I think that’s why this initial sentencing is short - they probably expect her to die within the next 7 years.

Unlikely, I would have thought, otherwise they would already have charged him with GBH or attempted murder.

She wouldn’t be in the van but for him. So where does his ‘responsibility’ stop. I’m confused by this law. Need to see the statute.

What an absolute piece of shit he is. How fucking dare he. I’d give him 20 years minimum but then I’m no lawyer and can’t claim to know enough. It’s just my gut feeling about what’s fair, and that’s hardly the way to approach law! I guess he’s not legally responsible for the injuries sustained after she left the van on the road, even though it’s obvious that she’d not have been there in the first place if he hadn’t forced her into his van. He’s an absolute danger and shouldn’t be allowed to wander the streets for a good few decades imo.

Do men like this get psych help to stop these horrendous behaviours?? I doubt prison will stop him, although a nice long sentence might give him more time for reflection.

It’s a disgusting sentence. They couldn’t prove if she was pushed or opened the door herself hence the lesser charges. It’s disgusting
