She’d left him as he was controlling her so he kidnapped her off the street and she fell out of the van.

Surely kidnap alone is a life sentence?

What about his accomplice as well? He's got less then 2 years for kidnapping her. It makes me furious. These 2 are a danger to women and need to be kept locked away

TerribleCustomerCervix · 27/01/2022 09:30
**@SportMother* But what the fuck did he intend to do once they had reached whatever the destination was?*

All the sentences should be served consecutively in this case

This.

Kidnapping cases like this rarely end without the victim being raped, severely injured and/or killed.

The sentences are a joke.
Exactly.

I doubt very much he bundled her into the van against her will in order to have a calm, adult conversation over a pot of tea.

Is there any way the public can ask for the sentence to be reviewed?

Suzanne999 · 27/01/2022 09:32

Disgusting. He’ll probably do less than 4 and be out to control another young woman.
Angel and her poor family have the life sentence I wish he had been given.

Thirtytimesround · 27/01/2022 09:33

Just another example of how crime against womennis not taken seriously by the courts. And the other man only got 21 months, for kidnapping a tenage girl.

I hope it gets referred to the unduly light sentencing authority but more than that I hope they both have a truly terrible time in prison. Hopefully they’ll meet some strong men who have teenage daughters.

AnneElliott · 27/01/2022 09:36

That is shocking . I hope the AG considers referring that as unduly lenient.

Simonjt · 27/01/2022 09:41

You would think in these sort of cases people could be charges with intent to harm, just as they can be charged with intent to use a dangerous weapon, make a bomb etc. After all, if you kidnap someone when you reach your destination you are going to attempt to cause more harm, be it physical or psychological.

LadyEloise1 · 27/01/2022 09:42

I was shocked when I saw the light sentence after what happened.
Disgusted that he will serve so little time for ruining a young girl's life and the impact it has on those who love her.

Concurrent sentences are a joke. Sad

BudgeUpAnne · 27/01/2022 09:46

Honestly this story really upset me when I read it. This poor girl, 19 years old and sentenced to a life of 24 hour care thanks to a mindless scumbag. I hope he gets the shit kicked out of him in jailAngryAngry

User1isnotavailable · 27/01/2022 09:48

Shocking.

IsolaPribby · 27/01/2022 09:48

From the article: ommenting after the sentencing of Bowskill and Sansome, Detective Chief Inspector Tony Harward said no verdict "can make up for the quality of life this young woman has lost".

He added: "I can only hope that in time her family can find some comfort knowing justice has been done."

But justice hasn't been done, has it? Sad

I hate it when they say that. No sentence can bring back her quality of life but her family might have a bit of comfort knowing that he is at least suffering as well, by being imprisoned, rather then enjoying his freedom in just a few short years.

There is TerribleCustomerCervix. It's called the Unduly Lenient Sentence Scheme.

www.gov.uk/ask-crown-court-sentence-review

The defendants who dragged the policeman along when he tried to confront them did have their sentences increased. However, the man who used a 'rough sex gone wrong' defence did not. In the latter instance, there was no victim or witness to give evidence to contradict what the defendant said, a situation highlighted by an earlier poster.

I wonder if counsels for the defence ever regret their success in defending their clients.

billy1966 · 27/01/2022 09:59

Her injuries are a consequence of his actions.

That is so upsetting to watch and read.

Poor girl.
Her poor family.

If I was her mother, I would want him dead.

ChaToilLeam · 27/01/2022 10:01

Ridiculously light sentence 😡 he has destroyed her life, the fucker.

Onthefloor2 · 27/01/2022 10:01

Probably would have raped her then strangled her to death once at the destination….but that doesn’t matter does it!😡 Our system is in favour of rapists!

Was hardly going to just drive her around and then drop her back unharmed after kidnapping her!!

MajesticallyAwkward · 27/01/2022 10:33

This is horrific. The sentence is an insult to the victim and her family. If she'd died of her injuries would they have been held accountable for her death? Or are they only responsible if the victim doesn't manage to escape and is subject to (presumably) horrific sexual assault and murder. They were never going to just let her go unharmed.

It's another terrifying example of how the legal system fails victims, especially women and children.

Graphista · 27/01/2022 11:12

Because only white men matter in our society!

Women, girls, children, anyone not white and the disabled can fuck off as far as our govt and their authorities are concerned

What I don't get is why not everyone is seeing this!

What does it matter how she came to leave the vehicle - she shouldn't have been in it in the first place!

Exactly - even IF she jumped surely it was because she was in fear for her life/personal safety because of HIS actions

What message does that send to men who feel like snatching women off the street?

A terrifyingly weak message isn't it? Hardly a deterrent and he won't even serve the full 7 years

Sentencing guidelines for all crimes are far too soft.

Yes but particularly for crimes of violence/against the person

When the death penalty was abolished in this country the public were promised murderers etc who would have received a death sentence would receive a whole life tariff and that other sentencing would not be watered down

Those promises were quickly broke and at this point it's barely a crime to physically hurt a woman/girl/child.

Empty the prisons of non violent offenders except king pin drug dealers, leaving room for the violent bastards to serve proper sentences

Which reminds me of my other pet hate about sentencing: why are concurrent sentences even a possibility? What is the point?

Agreed

I have emailed my Mp about this, he is a good man who will likely agree this is outrageous but there is little he alone can do to change things although hopefully it can be a chip away at the rife violent misogyny currently widespread in this country.

I have also now contacted the AG. The automatic response says only one request can trigger an appeal but let's be honest the more people complain/request a review the more likely it is to happen! So get emailing people!

Here is the link to get the email address

Sick to the back teeth of vawg being minimised, defended and justified - by other men!

Turns out this judge has a history of lenient sentencing and inappropriate comments! Why is he still being allowed to BE a judge?!

LittleKitten1 · 27/01/2022 11:13

Should have got more than double. At least.

notacooldad · 27/01/2022 11:36

What does it matter how she came to leave the vehicle - she shouldn't have been in it in the first place!
This x100!
She would have been so frightened, just walking along minding her own business and then literally been plucked off the ground and bundled into a van. The utter, utter bastard!😡

Fairyliz · 27/01/2022 12:07

We should bring back hanging.
Yes I’m sure lots of wet people will say I am terrible but this scum will be out in about three years and torturing the next girlfriend and the one after that and the one after that.
I expect at some time he will become a father and so children will be brought into the ever continuing depressing mix.

Tree543 · 27/01/2022 12:15

Scary the way he was able to lift her up and carry her. Women dont stand a chance physically against men.

cowbag1 · 27/01/2022 12:30

I have read a bit more around this as it's very local to me.

The young woman had initially been driving the van it seems. When they began to argue, she pulled over and got out and it is at that point that you can see her being kidnapped on CCTV. However, the defendant says they were originally on the way to her house and that's where he was driving her to. The location of her body confirms they were driving in that direction, so there's nothing to prove that this is untrue or that he intended to harm her and they can't prove if she fell or was pushed. As they can't get the victim's testimony, there's nothing else for them to go on.

He sounds like a total scum bag who also harrased his own mum to change her statements. What a shame he'll be out so soon. I'm just glad they managed to convict him of coercive control too but it's madness that the sentences have to be served concurrently.

Even when we had hanging this man wouldn't have been sentenced to it.
DePfeffoff · 27/01/2022 12:34

I very much doubt that asking for a sentencing review would achieve anything. With a 12 year maximum available and no evidence that this man intended his victim to come to physical harm - and possibly without previous convictions - 7 years is probably about right. I suspect the judge is as gutted that she had to pass this sentence as everyone else is.

CoastalWave · 27/01/2022 12:38

@Soubriquet

I bet he pushed her as revenge for leaving him but there’s no proof either way.

It’s his word vs hers and she can’t give her side of the statement

I think she was terrified she was going to raped or worse - and she jumped.
