To ask if you can drive in any shoes?

Tried to drive my (newish to me) car in boots with a small 1 inch heel today and constantly felt like I was going to stall the car!

I’ve been driving ages but I can’t see to drive in anything other than flat boots, converse or ballet flat!

Is it just me? What am I doing wrong? I don’t want to be going around revving like a boy racer cos I want to look less like a potato!

I would drive in flats and swap to heels once parked.
I can’t drive in heels of any height.

housemaus · 20/01/2022 15:52

I keep an old pair of trainers in the car for this exact purpose! I can drive in most things now, but anything with a seperate heel won't work - I can do my platform trainers/chunky platform boots, so it's not the height, just the angle of my foot I think. Oh, and Ugg boots - I once tried to drive in those and did some accidental braking, terrifying.

I'm a pro at switching to my old trainers quick in the car now Grin

PheasantsNest · 20/01/2022 15:53

I can drive in any shoes/boots/trainers.

TulipsGarden · 20/01/2022 15:54

No, definitely can't drive in heels! I keep flats in the car to swap for wellies as I can't drive in them either.

Allmyarseandpeggymartin · 20/01/2022 15:55

@PheasantsNest I am in awe! How?

Does the car feel different to you when you change shoes?

OP posts:
PheasantsNest · 20/01/2022 16:00

@Allmyarseandpeggymartin no. I've driven barefoot before only in a car park and it was no different.

Oblomov22 · 20/01/2022 16:02

I can drive comfortably in any shoes, including heels. I find no difference between any sliders, boots, trainers, heels, anything.

emmathedilemma · 20/01/2022 16:06

I can't! Although I rarely if ever wear heels but do recall they can be tricky. I also can't drive in anything with too thick a sole or that's wide like hiking boots as you just can't feel the pedals.

Mummysgonetobed · 20/01/2022 16:08

Also drive in any shoes, prefer heels to be honest!

notacooldad · 20/01/2022 16:10

I can pretty much drive in anything. I'm not keen on high heels but cant rember last time I wore them. I tend to wear Nike Air most days to work.

StoneofDestiny · 20/01/2022 16:11

I can drive in any shoes, but wouldn't drive in very thick soles as too difficult to judge pressure, nor in sliders - very unsafe as the can slide off.

Elphame · 20/01/2022 16:11

Yes I can drive in heels no problem. It does ruin them though so I keep an old pair of shoes in the car just for driving.

Can't drive in walking boots though.

girlmom21 · 20/01/2022 16:12

I felt a massive difference when I had some trainers with thicker soles 😂 but you soon get used to it!

Snoken · 20/01/2022 16:12

No I can't drive in heals, wellies, UGG's, and I won't drive in flip flop's as you can fined for that. UGG's are too wide so I don't trust that I only have my foot on one pedal, with wellies I can't feel what I am doing and with heals I can't get the pressure right as the foot is on an angle.

Snoken · 20/01/2022 16:13

Sorry, should be heels, not heals.

ScarlettSunset · 20/01/2022 16:13

No.
I take spare shoes in the car with me if necessary so I can change when I get to my destination

PinkiOcelot · 20/01/2022 16:15

I can drive in any footwear. Funnily enough I had this exact conversation with DD2 today. She just passed her test a couple of weeks ago and was saying she can only drive comfortably in a couple of pairs of shoes.

Alayalaya · 20/01/2022 16:16

It’s really dangerous to drive in heels. An impact can break your feet.

Kendodd · 20/01/2022 16:17

I can drive in any shoes.
Don't like driving barefoot though.

GertrudePerkinsPaperyThing · 20/01/2022 16:19

Wouldn’t be able to drive in ballet flats for one thing! They don’t stay on my feet which is why I never wear them.

I don’t think I could drive in heels. Can’t drive in flip flops (obviously!) or stiff walking boots. Needs to be flat, normal shoes or boots.

BurntO · 20/01/2022 16:19

I wouldn’t drive in heels or flip flops. I just wear a pair of trainers and swap

GertrudePerkinsPaperyThing · 20/01/2022 16:19

Can drive in bare feet though

Sirzy · 20/01/2022 16:22

I can’t drive in heels or doc Martin type boots.

Toottooot · 20/01/2022 16:24

Can only drive in shoes that are secured to my feet - ie boots, trainers. Cannot drive in flat shoes - even thought the shoes fit perfectly they seem to want to slip off and also find flat shoes horribly uncomfortable to drive in.

LadyDanburysHat · 20/01/2022 16:25

I've driven in buffalo trainers before. Big platforms that the Spice Girls wore. I can happily drive in anything other than flip flops. Which I think are just dangerous.
