To hate beige buffet food?

Went to a couple of family parties recently with buffets of beige. Sausage rolls, cheese sandwiches, scotch eggs, breadsticks, crisps. A sea of golden brown and dry food.

It’s my daughters birthday coming up. What would be on your dream buffet menu?

YABU - I love a beige buffet. Embrace sausage rolls!

YANBU - give me veggie noodle salads and Parma ham wrapped green beans.

Sandwiches I would do Egg mayo, cheese spread or cheese and ham, all work well as little finger sandwiches. I've also done coronation chicken, prawn cocktail, cream cheese and cucumber and cream cheese and smoked salmon which went down well with the grown ups.

@madamehooch

I love a 1980's wedding buffet. I mourn their loss. Hog roast? Pah!

Nothing beats the pleasure of finding that strategic spot near the table where you can go up as many times as you like without being judged. No one wanted to do the walk of shame across the dancefloor.

Of course, these were the days when there was enough food to sink a battle ship. Prawn vol au vonts, at least four different types of sandwich, quiche, cocktail sausages, silver-skinned pickled onions, cheese and pineapple, bowls of crisps where you never knew what flavour you were getting, bbq chicken drumsticks...

Paper plates bowing in the middle, taking one bite of everything to mix textures and flavours, all washed down with a glass or cheap plonk. The prickly tear eyes when you were on your last mouthful, knowing that all the cousins were now married...

If I'd known it was the last time, it would have been a three-visit job.

I will have my day again.

😆😆😆 I’m chuckling away at that! This is me! Gutted there won’t be anymore big buffets in my future but I do a Xmas and new year one 😆

I love a combination of both. Quiche, baguette (cut in rounds) and buttered, cheese etc but also love some salad, fruit and a bit more colour. Love vol au vents, especially prawn cocktail ones. Like a scotch egg but the yolk needs to be runny.

Any suggestions on sandwich flavours?

Ham and cheese
Egg mayo with cress
Prawn mayo
Cheese and onion

@dreamingbohemian

I can't tell if people are joking about the cheese and pineapple hedgehogs

(I'm not British)

I put cocktail sausages, cheese, pineapple and pickles on mine

After many visits to kids parties, I have come to the conclusion they only eat:

Pizza
Fruit kebabs
Hoola hoops/ Pom bears

Anything else is basically for show and to lick and dump on the carpet, or just outright rejected. So save the hassle, less is more.

Bloody want a sausage roll now

Disappears to locate sausage roll - misses point of thread 🤣🤣🤣

A beige buffet is not complete without pickled onions, cheese and pineapple on sticks and mashed egg sandwiches

There’s a further factor here which is booze.

Lunchtime buffet, I will be delighted by salads and other healthy colourful options.

End of a wedding or drinks party, I will dive into the stodge. Ideally anything deep fried.
