Jonathan Van Tamm has been the only grown up between us and Covid. What will we do now he's leaving? AIBU to be a bit concerned? (Hope he wasn't at the bloody party though)

The timing is interesting.

longwayoff · 13/01/2022 10:10

It is. Awaiting updates nervously.

He has far too much integrity to be associated with this shower. I admire him for stepping away. It says far more than any words could.

guinnessguzzler · 13/01/2022 10:17

I reckon the timing is because he no longer want to work with these truth twisters and is far too measured to make a drama of it.

longwayoff · 13/01/2022 10:25

I shall miss his comments, I find him very reassuring. However, best wishes for future, of course, without the public role he's been pushed into. Seems like such a sensible person. Would be a great addition to the House of Lords.

YANBU

I love him

VestaTilley · 13/01/2022 10:30

Where’s he going? Him, Chris Whitty and Patrick Vallance are the only ones I trust.

DrManhattan · 13/01/2022 10:32

If he was at that party I think I will have lost all my faith in humanity

AnneLovesGilbert · 13/01/2022 10:32

Never liked him. His suits annoy me.

Brainwave89 · 13/01/2022 10:33

If he is walking away as he cannot work with Boris and the rest of the shower, I would be even more cross than I am now.

Hemingwayzcatz · 13/01/2022 10:34

Great guy but Whitty and Valance are too so not sure I agree on the ‘only grown up’ remark! He’s clearly had enough of the shit show and I don’t blame him for jumping ship.

FridayiminlovewithRobertSmith · 13/01/2022 10:34

Noooooooo I love JVT!

He's got a post lined up to go to - Pro Vice Chancellor at his alma mater the university of Nottingham.

Appointments of that seniority are recruited weeks/months in advance, so this must have been in the pipeline for some time, not a flounce because of revelations in the last few days

pussycatunpickingcrossesagain · 13/01/2022 10:35

Prof Van-Tam had been on secondment to the Department of Health from the University of Nottingham. In his new role, he will be pro-vice-chancellor at the university's faculty of medicine and health sciences.

from the BBC website.

So technically we only borrowed him anyway. Smile

BitcherOfBlakiven · 13/01/2022 10:42

He needs to come back to Nottingham because I’ve wanted to do my PhD with him for years Grin and I’m applying this Autumn!

NeedAHoliday2021 · 13/01/2022 10:48

Phew, I was worried Cummings had a photo of him at the party snogging an intern - which would have broken any trust I have in men because I think he’s one of the good ones… but I stupidly thought that of Matt Hancock being a nice family man. Love JVT!

IDKAYBIF32 · 13/01/2022 10:48

(Hope he wasn't at the bloody party though)

He isn't a Conservative party member, he's a doctor, lecturer and medical officer. He isn't political.

Seeline · 13/01/2022 10:53

I reckon it was doing the Royal Institute Christmas lectures. He suddenly realised that going back to teaching would be so much better than having to deal with the charlatans from Downing Street.

He will be sadly missed as one of the voices of reason.

Dahliasrule · 13/01/2022 10:55

That’s good about his University if Nottingham appointment. I was worried that he was ill as he seems to have been keeping a lower profile for a bit now but perhaps it is about that appointment.

longwayoff · 13/01/2022 11:15

Christmas Lectures were absolutely excellent. Everyone should watch. Iplayer.

They were fab. The Christmas lectures have always been a part of my Xmas and this years were really good.
Ihatestripysocks · 13/01/2022 11:33

That’s a shame he was very good and reassuring. Loved the way he could say facts but without resorting to getting involved in tricky political question or scandal. Not even a raised eye brow or rolling eyes towards the mess Government were making.

FridayiminlovewithRobertSmith · 13/01/2022 11:38

I LOVED him at the RIC lectures! Apart from being super clever I like the humour!

Boris nicked him from Nott'm Uni.
Whadda · 13/01/2022 11:43

Loved him in Queer Eye.
