Was this out of order ?

So today was the first time that I have tried to sell something on marketplace.
I put a new rug that we bought 2 months ago, it is a beautiful rug and I have paid £110 for it however I have changed my mind now and decided to change the style of the room .
Rug is (was) in perfect condition.
I have put it up for £20 hence it was used for the last 2 months so it isn't new anymore but I just thought I would have some money towards something else that was on my mind.

I had few people interested.
One lady was very interested, asked for my address and told me she would pick up tonight.
Today after I have given her my address she asked me if I could deliver to her instead for free as she's a single mother and doesn't drive.
I thought- why not...
She didn't live far, well 15 mins drive from us.
Before I left the house she asked me again if I could accept £15 instead of £20 as that's all she has right now because she needs to buy a new pram for her daughter .
I agreed again because everything was already planned and I let the other interested people know that's its pending .

Anyways. I got there and shes opened the door , I have gave her the rug and then she tells me " can I please have it for free as I dont have must flooring right now and J have a baby"
Now , I was shocked when she asked me and how she asked me and I just said yes whatever just take it then and she didn't even say thank you just closed the door.

I dont know what I am expecting right now.
I am just surprised, is this normal behaviour ?
I basically wasted my evening delivering to her , agreed the lower price then gave it away for free at the end.
I didn't expect a big thank you and flowers or anything like that but I just feel that she was so entitled .

Was this weird. ?
AIBU ?

Shes taking the piss

ghillyp · 10/01/2022 20:16

You need boundaries, she needs to stop taking the piss!

Soubriquet · 10/01/2022 20:17

She was taking the piss yes but you were a bit of a mug too

OppsUpsSide · 10/01/2022 20:17

I wish you’d said no and taken it back!

gamerchick · 10/01/2022 20:19

You were scammed. This is a common approach from pisstakers.

Next time it's cash on collection, no you can't take a lower price no matter the sob story, no you can't deliver for free or for fuel and only give your street name and postcode until they're actually there before giving your number.

TwittleBee · 10/01/2022 20:20

Oh OP - I definitely would have said "no" to the free delivery, that's bloody cheeky in itself. Be warned, you will find with almost anything you put up for sale on FB Market place you'll get CFs like her. Definitely set boundaries for yourself and stick to them.

Dogscanteatonions · 10/01/2022 20:20

I've voted yabu as it was ridiculous that you agreed to deliver it and take less money in the first place! Of course she was a CF but you seriously need to grow a pair!!

driftcompatible · 10/01/2022 20:20

Oh bless you. You did a lovely thing.

One way of looking at this is that she had you for a mug and was ungrateful. What a cow.

OR

You can few it as someone who was in need and you did a good thing. She didn't thank you but I'm sure she is grateful.

Just chalk it up to a good deed. True story or not. And move on.

Next time - stick to your price, write collect only, and be firmer.

You're lovely though.

PooPooPongDelong · 10/01/2022 20:20

What a cheeky cow!

Whatelsecouldibecalled · 10/01/2022 20:21

I am sorry someone has taken advantage of your kindness. It's not normal no.

craftyminer · 10/01/2022 20:21

No doubt she'll sell it on.

Georgeskitchen · 10/01/2022 20:21

Selling sites are full of ppl trying to get something for nothing. If they ask you to deliver tell them its extra. You just have to be firm with them!!

furbabymama87 · 10/01/2022 20:23

She was rude and out of order but you let her do it, so more fool you.

LividLaVidaLoca · 10/01/2022 20:23

You need to toughen up and not let people walk all over you.

RoyKentsChestHair · 10/01/2022 20:23

She’ll be selling it on marketplace for £50 tomorrow, sorry OP! She’s most likely a scammer, but if it helps you to come to terms with her CFery just convince yourself she actually is a poor single mum with not a bean to her name and no carpet, in which case you did a lovely thing - and here are your Flowers

AllAmericanGirl · 10/01/2022 20:24

I would be most annoyed with myself if I was you. Why did you just give it to her?

LAURAMINIMAQ88 · 10/01/2022 20:27

I am .....and was ! trying to convince myself that she was just a mother in need but after reading your thoughts, I feel like a total mug and idiot.

LadyoftheWoods · 10/01/2022 20:28

This is exactly why I don't bother trying to sell things. I had a similar experience when I sold a rabbit hutch and now I just take things to the charity shop or the tip. My mum is always telling me to put things on FB but honestly I'd rather not have the stress and wasted time.

lexi873 · 10/01/2022 20:29

Facebook marketplace is full of cheeky freeloaders.
I understand people saying you were a mug etc but I’d probably have been the same as you, put on the spot and felt obliged to say yes.

JaniceBattersby · 10/01/2022 20:30

It’ll be back on marketplace by the morning for £50.

Suzi888 · 10/01/2022 20:32

A mother in need? Are you kidding me! She was a cheeky f* and rude as hell!
There are free sales pages if you want things for free. She will probably sell it on!

LAURAMINIMAQ88 · 10/01/2022 20:33

@JaniceBattersby well she's blocked me !

OP posts:
GiltEdges · 10/01/2022 20:34

Well unfortunately you were a mug. People like this bargain on the fact that once you've made the journey, you won't want to have wasted your time, so you're more likely to accept giving the item away for free than going to the trouble of taking it back home again. You need better boundaries, particularly when it comes to the behaviour you should minimally expect of complete strangers to you; you don't owe them anything.

malmi · 10/01/2022 20:34

Be thankful she didn't ask you for a tenner out your purse, I suppose

Tillymintpolo · 10/01/2022 20:35

You’ve been had, she’ll sell it on
